Alisaie is always open-hearted- she never closes herself off to the world. She passionately, almost violently cares about everyone so deeply. And Bethan's commitment to the performance is such a huge part of what makes me absolutely love this character.

I wasn't sure what to think of Alisaie orginally, but she became one of my dearest friends and a favorite among the Scions. I was especially touched by how adement she became that our character's wellbeing was just as important, and advocated stanchly to remind the world that they deserved happiness as well.

Ever since Alisiae had a bigger role in the story, she has become one of my most favorite character, if not the most, when it comes to FFXIV. You can feel the intense emotion that comes out of Alisiae. She pours her heart out, whether she is speaking to Ga Bu, worrying about Halric, or worrying about her brother or the WoL. You can feel her happiness, her pain, her sorrow, or her empathy. Bethan is such a great voice actor for someone like Alisiae. I recently found a orphaned russian blue kitten on the streets here where I live. She lost her mother and was only 3 months old. We took her to my local vet to be checked out and discovered she was not chipped or had a collar on. The vet asked me if I wanted to keep her before I could even breathe I said YES immediately. I only had her for a few hours and I loved her immensely to turn her over to our local humane society. When my partner asked me what I was going to name her(we are both FFXIV players ourselves and LOVE the story and game) I smiled and immediately said, Alisaie. And boy is she so much like the character too. The name was well chosen
It's a wonderful interview! Voice actors are often so undervalued, especially when it comes to video games, and I am glad that Bethan Walker but also the others got more attention with interviews etc. It's also super interesting to hear about the casting process and how Ms. Walker manages to give Alisaie so much power with her voice but also make her feel "natural" and "normal".

I’m sorry that my scene choices didn’t meet your standards for spoilers, it was a very difficult decision for me as to what to do so I was very careful to not show the context of the scenes. The problem I ran into was that many of the other scenes were just standing and talking and visually weren’t very interesting / didn’t fit what Bethan was talking about. So I made an editorial decision to go with what would be interesting and just try to make the context in most cases as vague as possible.
I was really impressed by the questions. They really focused on the actor and her impressions. Great job and much love to Bethan walker for agreeing to do this!

When the choice was given to which character knocks on your door... I wasn't sure who to pick, but for some reason I went with Alisaie, and I think it's just because I knew that her character would say just the right thing I needed to hear at the moment with a depth and warmth that only Bethan could provide.
Thank you so much! It was your great voice acting work that probably lead to Alisaie being one of my favorite Scions. I just love how vocal she becomes later and actively takes a role in looking out for our character's well being. And that moment when she brings us snacks! She grew so much from when you first meet her, and I love the spit fire nature and strong spirit you lend to her through your voice work! Any time I read ARR lines from her I think of your version of her voice in my head. XD
As a twin, I've always been impressed with how accurate Alphinaud and Alisaie's dynamic is to what my own experience was like growing up. Neither sibling is the "elder", so it's always a competition and there lots of fighting and arguing, but even if we're two very different people there's no one who understands you as a person as well as your twin does, so there's a unique bond there, and I think Bethan Walker and her counterpart Colin Ryan capture that extremely well. Bethan Walker's performance is a standout in a cast that's already all-around outstanding, and Alisaie definitely reminds me of my sister in no small part due to her voicework.
I was very surprised to hear that the VAs had never met despite working on the same project for so long. I thought that at least the twins' VAs would rehearse their banter and that would be why it came out so great.
Well, count yourself one of those very talented voice actors/actresses. She's my favorite out of all the characters in 14. You can tell the emotion you put into Alisae. Out of the characters you can play with, there never seems like a friendship as deep as yours. The rest in comparison feel like acquaintances. The player characters tied quite heavily to the twins. It was so refreshing seeing her be so different than Alphinaud. It was a breath of fresh air at times. She reminds me alot of my little sister its uncanny. So its just a wonderful treat. I think what you've done so well is show such human moments with the delicate respect that they deserve. Utterly cuts through me like a hot knife through butter. I don't think any other character has that effect on me. Thank you sooooo so much for the wonderful work you do. ❤

I'm so happy that she enjoys the character so much, the game has been much livelier since she came in during 3.x and I can't imagine Alisaie sounding any other way. I know a lot of actors can get bored after portraying a character after so many years so it's nice to hear that she's just as invested as we are.

Great interview and great questions. Alisae (and all the scions) really grew on me during the last 2 expansions. Bethan is so kind and you can see how much she loves her job. Btw what reshade are you using?
Honestly Alisaie has gone, for me at least, from one of the lower tier of characters back in ARR to my actual top character that I always like having around. If there's an option where I can have Alisaie comment on anything I'll go for it every time, and definitely her vocal performance has helped massively with that. The journey of that character really shines. Thanks for the hard work Bethan Walker, and you too Popo Jagaimo for bringing this to us!

Simply divine. This was the highlight of my day and I am glad it was shared with me; you've gotten yourself a subscriber. That aside, this was a lovely interview! Bethan answered each question (which were all great questions) with such consideration and passion; I just couldn't stop smiling as she expressed her genuine, genuine love for the Alisaie and her work in the series. It's something truly special when the Voice Actor or Actress appreciates the character they voice as much as their fans; she namedropped the other Scions too regarding her admiration for their voices

Alisaie brings so much soul, passion, and the often needed bluntness to the scions that I often find her saying the words that "my" nodding WoL lacks the voice to do so... Without Bethan Walker's stellar portrayal, I know I would not have connected to the FFXIV story on the level I have and I know I am not alone in that...

When the choice was given to which character knocks on your door... I wasn't sure who to pick, but for some reason I went with Alisaie, and I think it's just because I knew that her character would say just the right thing I needed to hear at the moment with a depth and warmth that only Bethan could provide.

Thank you so much! It was your great voice acting work that probably lead to Alisaie being one of my favorite Scions. I just love how vocal she becomes later and actively takes a role in looking out for our character's well being.

As a twin, I've always been impressed with how accurate Alphinaud and Alisaie's dynamic is to what my own experience was like growing up. Neither sibling is the "elder", so it's always a competition and there lots of fighting and arguing, but even if we're two very different people there's no one who understands you as a person as well as your twin does, so there's a unique bond there, and I think Bethan Walker and her counterpart Colin Ryan capture that extremely well. Bethan Walker's performance is a standout in a cast that's already all-around outstanding, and Alisaie definitely reminds me of my sister in no small part due to her voicework.

I was very surprised to hear that the VAs had never met despite working on the same project for so long. I thought that at least the twins' VAs would rehearse their banter and that would be why it came out so great.
Well, count yourself one of those very talented voice actors/actresses. She's my favorite out of all the characters in 14.
You can tell the emotion you put into Alisae. Out of the characters you can play with, there never seems like a friendship as deep as yours. The rest in comparison feel like acquaintances.
The player characters tied quite heavily to the twins. It was so refreshing seeing her be so different than Alphinaud. It was a breath of fresh air at times.
She reminds me alot of my little sister its uncanny. So its just a wonderful treat.
I think what you've done so well is show such human moments with the delicate respect that they deserve. Utterly cuts through me like a hot knife through butter. I don't think any other character has that effect on me.

Thanks for sharing your experiences! It's always interesting to hear how western recording works. In Japan, voice actors almost always voice together in a booth for scenes with anime and games, while the western voice actors almost never get to meet each other.
I'm always amazed how clearly she speaks in real life.

Honestly Alisaie has gone, for me at least, from one of the lower tier of characters back in ARR to my actual top character that I always like having around. If there's an option where I can have Alisaie comment on anything I'll go for it every time, and definitely her vocal performance has helped massively with that. The journey of that character really shines. Thanks for the hard work Bethan Walker, and you too Popo Jagaimo for bringing this to us!
