Yes you are correct we did them after hits were achieved not when damage was achieved, will change for next time. Thanks, glad you enjoyed it, we did too…. Great new rules 👍🏻 The buildings are a mix of Sarissa Precision, Micro Arts Studio and some ebay sellers. Thanks 👍🏻
Reading the rules carefully you do get a cover save if you are in cover, but going down does not give you a +2 on the save. Of course I was in the open so I should have had no cover saves at all.
Stunning terrain as usual, would love to know how you put it all together and painted it. I recently got a warlord ruined hamlet box and have been hesitating to paint the plaster and stone bits after an initial dry brush - any tips?
For stone work rather then painting grey, shading and dry brushing, try a different approach. Try base coating say sandy or mid grey colour then use a foam (which comes with warlord figures and dice) to dab on different shades of the base coat getting lighter each time. Then shade with a wash. Use enamels to add brown washes to wall bases, this allows you to 'wash' out tide lines with a solvent. Add green and brown stains in enamels again to represent dirt and moss stains, again washing out heavy areas.

Sherman took a pin from 20mm cannon or Coax? Can the 20mm firing HE (I think he said HE) penetrate the front of a Sherman? If not, doesn't a Regular tank ignore fire that can't penetrate it?
In real life, getting hit repeatedly by 20mm rounds would still scare the beans out of you, even in a Sherman. Can’t tell where the fire is coming from or its calibre. Many recorded cases of crews baling out in such circumstances.
@@theministryofminiatures - Well, of course at the end of the day it’s just about having fun, but miniature gaming is essentially all about realism and “immersion” and feeling you’re actually there without, of course, taking the risks!
Indeed, I always think of Chain of Command as the more realistic game for WW2, I like it also, but there is more to it. Both are great games depending on what you’re looking to play.
for infantry i thought that if you had more pins than bodies in a unit that it is an auto break? so at 1.06 when the rangers shot up the german unit and they had one survivor. should he not have to flee because of the two pins on him?
@rickfryer2934 thanks for answering, I think Chain of Command has the rule where if you have more pins than the number of guys you run, making smaller teams very vulnerable. Bolt Action however is based on more pins than the unit morale.
@@stevejones5824 yes that is correct and has been mentioned before, in essence this was us running through the rules and having fun with them. Hope you enjoyed it regardless, but at least we learnt that rule from this game 👍🏻
3 MG at Wolf around 39 min from the Sherman tank should be 2 MG. COAX has to shoot at same target as the cannon. Two MG can shoot at separate targets in their arc of fire. Someone else note this?
I think time will tell, but some changes do seem unfair… however, it is much easier to hit, so the panzerfausts will have a better chance of hitting and taking out a 2-300 point tank no problem, so a slight points increase is justified. We will See with the other rules, I fear Rick will buy another 3 Howling cows for a complete rocket platoon 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥 🤣😂 We did say, 3rd edition lends itself to agreeing before the game where it’s historical or gamey so that it’s a fairer fight… Good luck 🤞🏻
This is a good query. its clear with howitzers as there are light, medium and heavy howitzers. But with auto cannon there is no medium auto cannon. So an 88 is a heavy or very heavy flak gun. But is a heavy auto cannon really a medium flak gun. Looking in the book where the gun appears in the Luftwaffe section it does not say whether the gun is considerd light, medium or heavy. So if it is heavy I could not move it, which means the Sherman did not destroy it so no eigth kill, so game was a draw.
@@rickfryer2934My understanding is that light Auto cannons fall under light artillery and heavy auto cannons fall under heavy artillery (or heavy 'guns' as V2 referred to them I believe)...would be great to know, as I regularly use the flakswilling, and would love to move it around the battlefield to stop pesky mortars trying to range in haha or get a side shot on a dakka Stuart 😂
Can't claim to know Bolt Action rules but great entertainment, love the table. Hard to criticise respective tactics when the dice results can be so random .

@@theministryofminiatures Thanks for the response. Along with Basement 1908 you remain a must watch Channel. Looking forward to your next presentation .
Alaska Gen-X wargaming club. house rule (late war/ and konflict '47) : assault rifles are default. if 8 man unit, and AR cost 6 pts each, then the total cost of the unit of bolt action rifles, is discounted by 48 pts. the default rifle cost, is our default assault rifle cost, same with smgs. we are more concerned with order die.... limit of 25 per side, unless on campaign, then we use bolt action 'apocalypse' rules.
Hi, thanks for the comment and interesting point about house rules! Maybe something we could look into once we have played a few more v3 games… but ideally I want to try to stick as much as possible to RAW… but I like the concept of your house rules 👍🏻
@@theministryofminiatures RAW does have its place. were a club of old guys that have known each other for years, decades. thats when house rules shine. for us, the point limit is a general guideline. the use of the assault rifle as the base is to allow one person to maximize the rough limit without exceeding it. but i guess a rebate really isnt too different from an increase. if we were playing non club members, wed use the standard rules as a default. truth is, none of the kids want to play at the grandpas table, and we dont want the whippersnappers so it all works out. long winters make for long games, campaigns rather than one offs... but hey, as long as you are having fun how you play, then you are doing it the right way, raw or not. happy gaming
I know the feeling, our club games are very different from general games… and none of us are young, so having a good experience with a fun game is worth its weight in gold.
Bizarre that you’re building infantry sections based on points rather than using actual historical organisations. Strange set of rules that allows you to eliminate SMGs and Panzerfausts to ‘game’ the system. 🤦
Indeed it is a game, you can go for more historically accurate if you wish, or amend the units to fit with your play style or the points you have. I have heard it described as Hollywood wargaming, but I am happy with it being easy and fun to play 👍🏻
@@theministryofminiatures - As you said in another thread, it’s all about fun at the end of the day. Some people dislike points-based games to an almost fetishistic level. Points don’t bother me personally and I think they’re a useful tool to balance opponents, but there’s got to be some degree of reality mirroring or the game just becomes fantasy. I’ve never got on with B.Action myself except as a way to get new players and kids interested, but was intrigued to see if the new edition has improved gameplay and realism.
@sirrathersplendid4825 exactly, George in our group simply refuses to play Bolt Action… he is the one who called in Hollywood wargaming, so he and I play Hail Caesar and Black Powder, which we thoroughly enjoy. I have given up trying to get him to play BA… I am now working on Chain of Command with him 👍🏻
@@theministryofminiatures - I have a few quibbles with CoC (on- and off-table mortars and sharing of casualties among bunched groups) but hear these issues are being addressed in the 2nd edition, which might just be out for Christmas. Hope George likes the gameplay!

This is not correct, you rout when your number of pins equals your morale value, e.g 9 for regular.
@rickfryer2934 thanks for answering, I think Chain of Command has the rule where if you have more pins than the number of guys you run, making smaller teams very vulnerable.
Bolt Action however is based on more pins than the unit morale.
At 1:06:34 and 1:08:25 - If you are at point blank range it ignores DOWN - so no cover save...
@@stevejones5824 yes that is correct and has been mentioned before, in essence this was us running through the rules and having fun with them.
Hope you enjoyed it regardless, but at least we learnt that rule from this game 👍🏻
🎉very good.
Is the Mouse in the book?🤔👍🦆
Mouse? I was wondering what I had in the table that was a mouse!
The BIG German tank is 👍🏻
@@theministryofminiatures o yes big German tank .
sorry lol
Yea… it’s in the book 😉
😮🤫 mum's the word👍🦆
I think they are happy people talking about it now 😉😁🤣
3 MG at Wolf around 39 min from the Sherman tank should be 2 MG. COAX has to shoot at same target as the cannon. Two MG can shoot at separate targets in their arc of fire. Someone else note this?
The mg has 3 shots. We shot use hull and coax so can shoot at separate targets. We discussed but didn’t shoot the canon
Hi guys I noticed you were only rolling 3 dice for the medium machine guns from the shermans...should you not be rolling more dice?
No, third edition sees vehicles having their machine gun fire rate cut by 50% so this is correct…. It prevents the use of the good old Dakka tanks!
I believe they've nerfed the Germans a little too hard. Costs have rocketed for them.
I think time will tell, but some changes do seem unfair… however, it is much easier to hit, so the panzerfausts will have a better chance of hitting and taking out a 2-300 point tank no problem, so a slight points increase is justified.
We will
See with the other rules, I fear Rick will buy another 3 Howling cows for a complete rocket platoon 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
🤣😂
We did say, 3rd edition lends itself to agreeing before the game where it’s historical or gamey so that it’s a fairer fight…
Good luck 🤞🏻
@@theministryofminiatures I won't be getting three Howling Cows that would be too horrendous to play against. No I will get 4!!!
They certainly have not helped the Germans at all, but on the bright side I can blame it for me losing.😌
😂😂😂
Indeed and at least it balances the win/lose ratio between us 👍🏻😂
Heavy flak guns cannot move without a tow
I believe Rick said it was not heavy, but the lighter version in the description.
@rickfryer2934 lol, nice try… 🤣
The sherman would have found another juicy target! 👍🏻🤣😁
@@zachariahbrian good point, so the only way to be sure is for me to take a tow next time.
Can't claim to know Bolt Action rules but great entertainment, love the table. Hard to criticise respective tactics when the dice results can be so random .
Thank you, yes both the mechanics of the game AND the random dice rolling can really change a game!
Glad you enjoyed it, we have another game tomorrow 👍🏻
@@theministryofminiatures Thanks for the response. Along with Basement 1908 you remain a must watch Channel. Looking forward to your next presentation .
HUGE THANK YOU!!!
@@theministryofminiatures
RAW does have its place. were a club of old guys that have known each other for years, decades. thats when house rules shine.
for us, the point limit is a general guideline. the use of the assault rifle as the base is to allow one person to maximize the rough limit without exceeding it.
but i guess a rebate really isnt too different from an increase. if we were playing non club members, wed use the standard rules as a default.
truth is, none of the kids want to play at the grandpas table, and we dont want the whippersnappers so it all works out.
long winters make for long games, campaigns rather than one offs...
but hey, as long as you are having fun how you play, then you are doing it the right way, raw or not.
happy gaming
I know the feeling, our club games are very different from general games… and none of us are young, so having a good experience with a fun game is worth its weight in gold.
mute your phones
I know, Dan was visiting and needed to check his messages, we usually try to keep it to a minimum 👍🏻
Hopefully it didn’t ruin it for you?
Bizarre that you’re building infantry sections based on points rather than using actual historical organisations. Strange set of rules that allows you to eliminate SMGs and Panzerfausts to ‘game’ the system. 🤦
Its a game which you play for enjoyment. But it is also a competetive game, say like chess. Neither Bolt Action or chess are super realistic.
