You should've tried dual wielding pulley crossbows. I've tried it, and it's really fun AND actually effective at times. 6x bleed arrows is basically a guaranteed proc. Even with other arrows, 6x of anything will be significant damage.

I wish that crossbows were much stronger compared to what they are, they should at least be buffed across the board with the armor piercing property that weapons such as the Pickaxe have. It could turn them into a tool used to take down enemies that have high damage resistance across the board.
Thinking about it, armor piercing properties on crossbows might actually be precisely what they need to have a pragmatic place in the game, this is an excellent idea.
If you mean pierce damage then arrows and bolts already get it they do pure pierce and that pierce is boosted 15% by the spear talisman like all other pierce damage has been so since launch
Let's think about this rationally. Armor piercing on crossbows, with repeater shots easily totaling up to about 300 damage already, would be nightmarish. It'd be like sorceress, except it costs even less to do it. Maybe a bit more damage and less recovery on shots would be helpful instead. There's very little reason why you should be unable to move after you've fired your shot.
On top of that, we could see a greater utility to using a crossbow two handed, like faster reloading and the ability to run and shoot.
Yeah it's a shame, but fromsoft have a history of making crossbows (and non-magic ranged weapons) pretty crap. ER is probably their best incarnation, which should tell you something.
My "pure" caster build had dual pulley crossbows in reserve for situations that needed it, namely invasions. I used sleepbone and burred bolts and not only did it help tons, it felt cool af
Edit: that gatling crossbow in the dlc is gonna go insanely hard

They could've given crossbows an ash that makes a blast that knocks enemies back while pushing you backwards to give some room, or even a dash shoot where you shoot and dash back or in any of the directions you are moving to
Monk, crossbows with UGS has great sinergies, this is due to the stun of the crouch R1 which let you get a guaranteed shot in the opponent. Making this even better with the pulley crossbow or the Arbalest.

One thing I've noticed with Elden Ring PVP is that there's less parries and more just running and trading/spacing. Earlier souls games were 100% parry bait/punish types, it was a fucking slog where both opponents just baited each other to do something.
jump attacks are non parriable is such a small yet great addition to pvp
@@pretzelbird965I think the jump attack in ds3 was unparriable but also the jump attack was bad in ds3 like not worth using and If anything had a combo it get patched 😔

It’s so stupid that only Explosive Greatbolt pierce armor, when everything should pierce armor.
I'm wondering if you are even benefiting from the Arrow's Reach Talisman at those ranges. Maybe a different talisman would be more helpful? Ritual Sword talisman might be worth trying if you are trying to chip down an opponent before they can reach you.
Arrows reach didn't provide much benefit, but it did prevent damage falloff from affecting him as much

pulley xbow with frost bolts seems insanely op for pvp and pve. frostbite gives 20% damage buff

Pully crossbow with sleep bolts combos into jar cannon if you sleep them on the 3rd bolt. Kinda cool!

Ya know, I picked up the Full Moon Crossbow some time ago but never used it since I'm using sorceries this time around. The description mentioned something about its full power being unlocked with holy bolts. Does something change? A damage increase? Or is that just misleading?
It's actually meteor bolts despite the description, and they do slightly more damage on the Full Moon Crossbow.

The best offhand weapon is the flail, perfectly combined with a torch.
They're adding a gatling gun crossbow on the dlc so i hope they're buffing crossbows all in all for it
I feel that the arbalist should have a special armor piercing bolt for anti sheild, and that explosive should ALWAYS stagger in pvp. Heres a weapon idea make a whacha sheild, basically a greatsheild that doubles as an arrow shotgun lmao, it requires whacha bolts to fire, and the ash when firing gives blocking frames. 😂 we need greases for normal bows and crossbows, like a bowman grease and a bolt man's grease, gives bonus damage and reload/draw speed
I main Greatswords and an Arbalest for my left handed weapon, and honestly it's fun to play as.

I am making a shield crossbow build, this should be pretty fun, a strong shield, a powerful crossbow... maybe the DLC will give us some fun stuff with the new weapons (hopefully more crossbows with better scaling?)
When it comes to dragons the damage shoots up drastically especially with the heavy special ones
crossbows must be reworked to have armor piercing properties and good scaling.....idk what Myazaki was thinking, this weapon is just miserable
I really wish we could have Stormwing Bolts. The ability they have to make people flinch would make them perfect for interrupting enemy attacks like it's budget Bloodborne

Jar Cannon with Explosive Bolts has become my favorite way to start off Invasions. Yeah, it’s a Greatbow but worse but… It’s a Jar Cannon!
Truly an amazing weapon class
In earlier patches the crossbows were amazing, explosive bolts would always stagger which was so useful. Instantly shut down mages and people attempting to heal.

i wonder what stagger level is needed, in order to (consistently) follow-up with a crossbow. i believe a light or poke with the zweihander guarantees a crossbow follow-up, but i have yet to test combos with crossbows in an in-depth manner

in ds3 i loved the xbow meta. especially on console where it‘s harder to aim. Kinda sad that they still do not stun on 1.10

They were never op but they always used to have a place like in ds3 alot of people used them to get the final hit. This is literally the first time im watching someone in Elden ring not just use the pulley crossbow

Duel pulleys is actually cool. Makes you feel like a gunslinger and 6 bolts can easily proc status effects really quickly

Nah. C-bows are their "crutch weapon", it's a ranged option for someone who can't use bows due to lack of dex. Lack of scaling and fixed damage is so that crutch wouldn't outcompete the real weapon (bows). As such, they will remain as they are. Automatic crossbows from Souls 1 onwards were always treated like rare and unique weapon, they are more outlier than a rule.
Except they are so bad that there is no reason to waste weight on them when you could be using kukris, bombs, or knifes ( except for the pully). I agree that bows should be the main ranged weapons but crossbows need a few things to improve them.
Throwables usually have less range and less ammunition (usually something like 10-15 bombs/knives), so maybe C-bows have a niche too.
@@quint3ssent1aYou're right about bombs but you can get quite a few knifes and for your point about bows, there are some that only need 8 or 11 dex to use. I definitely exaggerated on the first comment and I agree that they have their niche, I just think that right now the niche is too small because it under-performs in it even though its niche is a "crutch" like you said. Also in pvp I'd argue their niche is less poor mans bow and more of a sidearm for versatility.
