I am not Japanese, but to see such a beautiful culture be crippled by Western influence is nothing short of appalling.
I am a big fan of Yukio Mishima. But Western culture didn't cripple it. It was ceippled by itself. Meji restoration was neccesary, but lack of acutual attention to pople's state of minds led to horrifying attrocities Japanese military commited during WW2. It's beautiful country that is eating itself from inside every time when modernization is at the door step. It was too far behind from a world for a long time. When it opened up, it was more like cavemen meeting very agressive gods, and after gaining enough power reacting accordingly. Ingoring his political which were largely an offshot of his personal pjilosophy. I think it is very important for modern people who were fucked up by capitalism beyond recognition to embrace his philosophy on personal level. Both in his balance between body, creating physical manifestation for one's ideas instead of just ruminating over them and in searching meaning above comfort and luxury.
