Thank you. This video was true enlightenment. Sometimes, you need to draw that line between compassion / empathy and self-preservation / inner peace when dealing with a toxic individual. The bird and the fish ..... thank you for the lesson.

The best way to deal with most toxic people is to avoid them, as much as possible. A toxic friend? Gentlu, politely, but very firmly distance yourself; same with most relatives. A toxic employer, or coworker, a toxic landlord, well, these are more difficult, but cultivating defenses can help make it bearable until we can find a new job or residence. It can be a challenge, because we all want easy and calm lives, but that is difficult to achieve in this chaotic world, but it can be done.

Just be careful to not mix up the advice of patience with having no boundaries!
Maybe it would be less misleading to say - be impatient when needed, but still friendly in the way you express your needs and impatience.

A word like toxic = poison, but others are not administering it. If its just words, we are with our own interpretations. Everyone is a product of their own experiences, and their comments are shaped by that. The challenge is how do we find mind freedom from other people's behavior?

I appreciate the intention of this video and it's teachings, but i question if people always insult others because they're hurt themselves. There are many people in life that have everything good going for them and yet they'll still be toxic towards others. In fact, it seems to me that if a person perceives themselves as better than you on the social hierarchy, they'll tend to treat you worse and the higher they climb the hierarchy, the more likely they are to be full of themselves and use their position of power to try and bully others. As a result of this, it makes it very difficult to feel compassion for them, especially since they know what they do is wrong and get a kick out of it. In fact, it's hard for me to feel compassion for many people as many of those people weren't so compassionate to me.
In conclusion, i don't think people always hurt others because they themselves are hurting, but many times do so simply because it feels good for them to do so, giving them some sort of egoic satisfaction. The whole "hurt people hurt people" thing can come across to me as a cope.
