Very cool to see the train gliding past my neighborhood... and it caught my block and house from @46:47-46:52 at that! How wild is that?? To think this was almost 20 years ago is mind boggling! I was 11 years old! Starting @47:18 you can see the beams from the old gauntlet bridge. Obviously it wasn't replaced yet. I don't think it happened until '98.
Excellent video! It is really neat to watch while following along in google earth. This helped me out a lot with some personal research that I have been doing on the evolution of railroads in Lake County. Thank You.
Great video, loved that at 13:55 the train that you pass in the siding even has a caboose. Had a smile the entire time. I actually just took the South Shore from Chicago to South Bend and back in March and loved it.
Jim this was shot August 1997. The New Platform Station Was Built In 1998, so I know I was only back home to Midlothian, Illinois in 97' so that when it was. Take care Dan
I live in Portage and wow Ogden Dunes looked so different back in the day

Woow, Hegewish has changed a lot from back then. I would come to visit this station when the new station is there.

this takes me back. I forgot what the East Chicago station looked like before it was rebuilt.
This thing is like time stood still. I'm stunned that Michigan City, IN hasn't told NICTD to get the tracks out of the city.
For me, it was interesting to see the crossings in the Pines that are now closed (Lake Park Avenue, Carolina Ave., Kansas Ave.)
Chris; Glad you like it, appreciate the comment! Dan
Shame they got rid of all those old railroad crossings
Wow Dan. How long ago was this video shot?
