Nicely done. Years ago I added a subharness with relays for my headlights. Rick Astley has an excellent book on the principles and practice of automotive electrical systems.
Great video, Rick. I am original owner of a ‘79 MGB and had to replace my ignition system. It runs fine now but I now have a short circuit when I press the horn with headlights on!!! You’ve provided me the enthusiasm to investigate the problem as well as isolate those sub circuits with relays. Amazon should thank you.
Rich, i've got '70B and am in the process of installing relays. Your video is very helpful. Are you saying that we need just five relays (horn, 2-light relays, at #1 and #5) at the most?
Thanks again for this video. I am still thinking about the PRINCIPLE of how and why this works. Am I correct in concluding that the current draw through the old wiring is simply being directed through the 85>86 relay pins and thus reduces the electrical "work" to actuating the electromagnet, and that the major work is done through the 30>87 pins?
you all prolly dont give a shit but does someone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Elisha Deshawn I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and I'm in the hacking process atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I’ve installed relays for the headlights, horns, and the two other relays that you discuss in this video. I have one question. Did you have an issue with your turn signals no longer working? Mine were fine in my 1972 MGB for about two weeks, and then they stopped working. I’m currently sorting it out. It involves replacing the original flasher unit with a modern electronic one. I’ll let you know how this effort goes.
I like your video on adding relays to the lights . I have a 1979 MGB conv. and the wiring is a mess the tach does not work wires are unplugged from something ? Your wiring diagram looks similar . I just got the car a few months ago , I do have it running but lights on right side are working not very bright and left is not at all . What would you do to help fix the problem ? Thanks again Jerry
Hey Rick nice video. I am currently attempting an installation of dash and main harness in 76 MGB but harnesses are 79s. I am not doing relays (not enough sense) Any idea other than MG Experience where I can find instruction on how to connect bullet connectors in proper sequence. Seems , for example, that the headlight may be 74/76 and colors do not match the new harness. An the Bentley diagram does not show specific connections to individual electronics thanks if you can help
Greg Wood he best source of info is Rick Astley's electical book. I highly recommend it. www.amazon.ca/MGB-Electricals-Systems-color-illustrated-understanding/dp/1845842294
I’m sorry I’m struggling with the positive comments. I’ve been watching for a good 7 mins in and there is no direction on relay installations. A lot about your other car under a blanket and various spot welds and wings on walls.

I finally added relays as per Rick's suggestions and it made a difference. Thanks for creating and sharing this video Rick Wilson!
That you, you really explained relay in a easy understanding way.
NICE! Enjoyed your video.
Excellent video. Thanks heaps for the effort you put in. I have a 1967 MGB GT and am currently sorting out lights that are too dim! Cheers.
Great Job.
Good job my friend!!! Just like a pro! You are a pro actually
Very good thanks
Hi is it possible to Post a link to the wiring Diagram your using as i am Struggling to find it and can only find Portions of it Thanks Great Video 👍
If you find one can you send it to me please?
Well done
Bravo

@Elisha Deshawn It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my ass!
@Darwin Kingsley No problem :D
I have a white wire with a brown tracer, does it go on the fuse box or relay? HELP

I added these relays and now my OD does not work. Any suggestions?
Are the relays 3 prog or 4??

Do you happen to recall what gauge wire you used for the power wire from the starter, and the white wire for the ignition circuit?
Don’t you know the MGB has been doin well all these years I have a 1975MGB runs very well don’t
