    I recently bought Xbox x off eBay with exactly the same problem. It reacts to the controller as I imagine it should, just no image. I managed to remove the old retainer chip using el cheapo WEP hot air station. The process was indeed very difficult in terms of time and power I had to use in order to remove the chip. Installed a new chip and the result was the same as no work done. I figured I’ve used too much heat (or the chip I got was faulty) so ordered the Quick 861DW station. My question would be what temperature and air speed are you using to solder a new chip back? BTW, Greetings from Lithuania ;)

    What is that bent tool you are using with the flux? I am new to microsoldering and I am having a hard time finding all of the proper tools. I have some amtech flux just like the one you linked in the description. Do temperatures matter when it comes to soldering? I've had quite a few successful jobs done without even thinking about temperature. But I want to be able to do a job like this. I also ordered the 0.1mm copper enameled wire. What is the difference between enameled and non-enameled wire? All I have right now is a weller WES51 iron with a ETS 1/64 Long conical soldering iron tip. I will order whatever I need to do the job correctly.

      The bent tool you are seeing, depending on the shot, is either the tweezers or the hook shaped soldering iron tip.
      Temperatures do matter but so does the size and shape of the tip you’re using. There’s more to explain on this topic than can be covered in a comment reply. Hopefully you will seek out more answers in some of the other videos on this channel.
      Enameled wire has a thin coating of enamel around the wire which insulates it.

    • @arsenicjones9125
      @arsenicjones9125 3 года назад

      NorthridgeFix has a hard time getting to many comments to answer so I thought I’d try to be helpful. Not being him I’d assume he dropped it on top because it will spread evenly around the IC from there. He uses the tweezers to hold the chip in place while he gets the initial placement then presses down on the chip while bringing back the hot air to push it down firmly to the board. While the tweezers do absorb some heat you really don’t want a lot of that. The tweezers aren’t that large and will get hot enough to be uncomfortable in your hand pretty quickly.

      In general you don’t want to clean a board before repair because “the dirt” may help you to narrow down where the problem is. At business scale, the accepted way to clean whole PCBs is with an ultrasonic cleaner which will dislodge dirt, etc and clean surfaces you cannot reach without any potential damage to the board. At home or cleaning small areas you use isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab or you can use windex and a cotton swab followed by isopropyl and cotton swab for sticky substances.

    If you encounter something with "piss" damage, is it possible to rinse the board with deionized water?

    • @8o86
      @8o86 3 года назад

      Yes, or isopropyl alcohol.
      It's also completely fine to use regular hot water and soap -- just make sure it's completely dried before turning it on. 24 hours in a dry and warm place would be just fine.

    I'm betting £10 it's cat pi$$ ... reminds me way back when repairing old cathode tube TV's with board corrosion ... owner's cats would just lay on top of the TV, over the vent holes and piss while they slept ... because it was nice and warm, as cats like warm places ... never had dog pi$$ repairs though ... oh those were the days ...

    Oh also. My model is the xbox One S. I have one that has the power issue where is just turns on for a little bit with no video and then I have another one that will turn on and is stable, but no video. Was brought to me with a bad port. Somebody tried to fix it and ripped many of the solder pads off on it. I tried my best with the tolls in my previous comment but I am still learning and I dont think that this tip is going to work. It seems to big. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

    I wash the board with wather and detergent if the board is with corrosion of piss or other stuff and put on stove with 70ºC for some hours!

    I'm sure that Mr. Alex has a "hazard" charge or such cases as the dog pee board.
    Perhaps a dip into a vat of Mr. Clean? or Alcohol?
    THEN, go to work on it.
    When you send that board back, pack it in Potpourri.

    I once had a customer bring in TV remote. It was a Sony and was an expensive learning version (roughly 20 years ago)
    She said it had stopped responding to any of the buttons being pushed.
    Normally the ones with rubber buttons get moisture build up if used by remote hogs. You know the type. They hold it in their greedy little fist the entire time.
    Anyway, started opening it and the amount of liquid inside was not what I expected.
    I asked her what happened to it.
    She blushed and admitted she dropped it into the toilet.🤢
    I immediately pushed it over the desk towards her and told her I'm not working on it. 😷
    Had she warned me, I could have worn gloves and a mask then dropped it into a vat of isopropyl then into the ultrasonic.
    Nope, charged her £220 for a new remote.

    I can't imagine sending something a dog urinated on for repair, you have house contents insurance for that. Mind you there are people who will spend hundreds on a Xbox and nothing on contents insurance, then ask for charity when they lose everything.
    As so many family members work there and you evidently have a lot of respect for 'Big Boss' is he also a relative?

    How do you know if you're dealing with leaded solder ?

    • @AirzonesBlasters
      @AirzonesBlasters 3 года назад

      All "commercial" consumer products use lead-free to meet RoHS regulations. It's safe to assume that a fresh xbox will be lead-free. You can also tell by a slight matt sheen on lead free vs shiny for leaded. And leaded solder melts a lot easier than lead-free.
