Thank you so much Phil I just brought my first xbox one x back to life. I did the retimer chip and that didn't fix it. I then noticed the hdmi out port looked like it had been worked which is funny cause the guy I bought it from had said that it just stopped working. I didn't have any hdmi ports for it just the ps4. In a pinch I harvested the hdmi in port from the board and used that. Success!
In a pinch you can use the hdmi in port as a donor. Hope this helps someone.

Hey man I need some help really bad, I have a customers Xbox one x that keeps on ruining retimers
, pin 38 and 39 keep shorting to ground , SDA_SRC and SCL_SRC
A few things from me :).
1. Thank you, it was the video a long time ago where I've learn about the fault of TDP158 :). I see that I've already liked it, so can't do it twice :D.
2. The difference in the leaded and lead free solder is only 30C, so, not much ;) IMHO. Only soldering paste and low melt solder can do less than that and that is a big difference in the melting point. But 30 a lot ;). C'mon :).
3. Yes, soldering those pads with no T12 which can give up to about 70W vs a regular soldering iron, or a regular soldering station which is 45-60W makes a HUGE difference :). The T12 makes a whole difference and it's worth spending those +£20 to buy a DIY kit to build it yourself. Again, you've said that you've got a cheap soldering iron here, but, I did not pay for my T12 DIY station more than those +£20. So, no excuse :D. I don't need to use a hot air anymore since I've started with this T12.
4. Using a 480C degrees is OK, I've done it in the past, but, if your station is +500W one you can do it with 350C as well which is the safe temp for soldering ICs comparing to 480C. When you buy these chips, you can read that you should solder them with a max temp of 350C. Otherwise you short their longevity.
There is a preheater as well which can help lower the melting point from the top, and with preheater I was able to solder QFN packaging at 300C, probably you can go lower than that, but I've never tried yet cause I've stopped using preheater and use only a hot air.
5. You use a no-clean flux, I know cause you're the reason why I have it here :). So, you can clean = yes, but, it's not a must. Even in the factory when they use a no-clean flux, they don't clean more than an absolute minimum. This flux should not cause a harm to the board. All it can do is to make it sticky ;).
I've rewatched this video after a long time cause I've got One X and wanted to make sure I remember everything :). And yes, I remember everything. I did wrote the readings as well this time of the HDMI port PIN out and this one is different from PS5 or Xbox Series S. I'll open today hope Series X will compare with this one as well. I'll show the comparison on one of my videos so that others can have it for future reference :).
P.s: you could reply in the chat of your store ;). I had no reply for about 2 weeks I think ;). I won't use this chat again, what's the point ;). I was needing 621M chip cause I've run out and new ones came wrong, so my customer had to wait. I thought you can help me, but your shop if worthless ;) - at least for now.

Hi phil silly question, is there a retimer chip on the original x box one? As i am trying to repair one and all looks and tests good but am getting nothing on screen, just a black screen, i have changed the filters and port looks good but cant see anything else wrong
Have you tried a different hard drive? sometimes a faulty harddrive can cause this problem as well. I'd see if it works with a new harddrive in, then I'd consider replacing the retimer chip.

Am trying to fix an xbox with no display output. I've already replace the hdmi port, and it shows a picture in sage mode (640x480), but no image in any higher resolution. This would indicate retimer chip issue? Would 640x480 still work if the retimer chip is busted?
I switched the hdmi ci following your video as a base. But the device still doesn't give any hint image?
quick question, lets say when i replaced the retimer chip it wasnt right for whatever reason, would that cause the xbox to completely refuse to turn on?
What if I did not solder the sides of the ic using iron?will it function or will not? I heard this ic needs to be but I'm not sure if it just rumors

Would it help to pre-emptively attach a small heatsink with thermal adhesive to the retimer chip?

I was playing my Xbox One X at work (12 hour shifts as a boom gate operator both day/night) and its my sanity keeper lol.
Lost all display through the TV, console boots fine and by using a HDMI to VGA adapter with a 3.5mm audio jack I can actually get picture at 576p or 720p but not 1080p to my PC monitor.

Would a faulty TDP158 Retimer IC be my issue?
Of course I’m just guessing it could be something else, just strange the HDMI to VGA cable works up to 720p but a normal HDMI cable doesn’t give me anything...

Hello i accidentally blew away one tiny chip next to where it says "C8C12 " after i replaced the ic.and hi port still no display , device turns on and stays on like.normal.but no signal? Hdmi port is 100% perfect maybe the ic is bad or its not mounted right ? But i heard if i did the ic wrong it wont even boot up?
Xbox one s. I swapped the hdmi in to the hdmi out because the hdmi out to tv was broken. The console started up fine, after about 10-20 seconds the screen started to flicker and xbox made a small noise inside every once in a while for about 2 minutes until it stayed black displaying no signal.
Hi Jose. If the xbox is making a noise you may have a faulty hard drive. Try installing a new hard drive and see if you get to recovery mode. Any laptop hard drive will do in order to test.
@@TheCod3r it's not making a noise like from the hard drive. To me it sounded like something shorting or maybe fuse blowing. I don't know if they'res any fuses in the board in case of the hdmi shorting the pins.
Also to note I didn't put the broken hdmi port on the in location. The in location is currently empty. I don't know if the pins on the in location are briged on the motherboard causing the flickering and possibly blowing something out leading to the black screen after a couple of minutes of working.
@@JoseLopez-je9mx it may have been the emi filters shorting out or the retimer chip but it's hard to say without seeing it in person. The only way to really know is to test all the pins for shorts using a multimeter

Hi mate just wondering I've bought xbox one x no power went straight to the hdmi chip totaly bad install never seen such a mess and noticed its missing c50 c16 c17 c18 I've installed new retimer chip but don't want to put power to it incase it might pop the new retimer chip will it pop it. And also if u have them caps on an old donor board any chance I could buy them off you sorry to ask I don't want to buy a full board just for them 4 caps as I'll not use the board for nothing else as I don't intend to fix anymore the boards is selling stupid money on ebay. So was kinda hoping u could sell me the 4 caps if u got them don't worry if u haven't just figured I'd giva it a shot and ask lol.

Besides the retimmer chip what else can it be?? I replaced mine and it made zero difference. I triple checked all of the pins and they look great.
There is a small bga chip on the right side of the port and they can't be purchased so if that dies you may need to find a donor board to take the chip from. Other than that it could be the emi filters or the port itself even if the port looks ok
@@TheCod3r the port looks fine,I've cleaned it with ipa and a toothbrush after scraping the contacts with an exacto.
Is there anyway to test that silver chip near the port at the edge of the board??
Also I found two black Resistors near the retimmer chip that doesn't have any Continuity while all the others near the chip do.
Has anyone came up with a test to tell for sure if the retimmer is bad or not?
I believe they were r31 and r32 that have no Continuity.do you have one handy that you can check those for me??
What temperature heat to remove the chip
I generally use 480⁰C to remove chips unless I'm near connectors, then I assess the situation as I see fit :)

Yeah if you have no power after replacing the chip you'll need to make sure it's soldered correctly

These retimer chip issues are a huge problem.
Yeah they definitely are, but a lot of problems stem from user error by inserting the cable wonky and shorting out the pins on the port itself, another issue is they have no way to cool themselves apart from the ground pad under the chip
Its seems that the retimer ic occurs mostly when pairing an Xbox one s or X with a 4k tv. The fat xbox one never had this issues and its locked at 1080 max.
@@dalibensouilah950 ive seen xbox one S and X systems that connect fine to modern displays and only display black screens when connected to older tv's or monitors. ive read this is usually indicative of a failing retimer chip
