  • The children railway “Banner of peace” in Plovdiv has been built during the communist regime in 1979. Originally, the railroad had been operates by children under supervision, including station masters, railway crossing, ticket master and even the driver of the train.
In 1997, following the abrupt changes in Bulgaria after the change of the regime in the beginning of the nineties, the train closes down; the batteries of the locomotive are exhausted; the tracks are in poor condition. For ten years, the train remains in disrepair and worsening condition.
In 2007, the Plovdiv municipality uptakes a big scale project to restore it. New batteries are bought and the loco and cars are repaired and get a new paint job. The tracks are restored and the train has it’s first run after ten years of disuse on the Child’s day, the first of june 2007. With a few pauses in operation it is still ran every day up to today, six trains a day. It has summer and winter schedule. Days off are Monday and Tuesday.
The locomotive is an electric mining locomotive, converted for the needs of the children’s railroad. Price for the tide is 0.5 eur.

👍 Ce "petit" train est absolument génial ! Bravo aux membres de l'association qui l'exploite. Amitiés de Belgique 🤗

Just lovely! So good that this line is working again. I read somewhere that originally the rails and stock came from the Rila narrow-gauge railway.

Yes, this is true. The Rila narrow-gauge railway closed down in 1956. The last train had been sent by the people with great sadness and hope for it to continue, yet this never happened. It was also a 600mm gauge, with metal tiles. The tracks here and other details are from there. On the rails one can read the production year, usually around 1920.

I can hear you huffing for air in the camera audio. Damn man. You sound like you need to run more often.

Hahaha I know but well, the train was damn fast and it is damn hot outside … and I was running along the route to film it and to appear in front of it a few times. But yes, I need to take up on running again and will.
