    My usual ‘technique’ is to pull everything around for about 20 minutes until it finally drops into place. Following this video, it took less than a minute. Superb stuff 👍

      It ain't that easy. The chain minus the wheel develops two loops . And hiw do you get the loops out . I have never figured that it. I have gotten the loops out but I don't know hiw I did it . A combination of cranking the pedals and holding the chain as I try to get one loop to straighten out in the mean time the chain gets wedged between the three front strokes ir worst yet in the area below the smaller sprocket and where ut James in vetween the Frame
      bearing and the smaller sprocket
      Try it you will see the horror story unfold

    Thank you I just swapped out and old wheel which matches my front one again however this wheel is a little bigger and I’ve noticed it’s badly buckled is this dangerous? I’ve just put the older wheel back on as the new wheel would slightly scrap the frame when riding and would make a noise.

    • @cyclemaintenanceacademy
      @cyclemaintenanceacademy  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, and thanks for your question. I think you made the right choice in reinstalling the old wheel.
      If the wheel is already significantly buckled, it's likely to worsen over time. This could result in the tyre rubbing against the frame, causing damage to both the tire and the frame and potentially slowing you down. Additionally, it might indicate the presence of broken spokes. If you would like to true your wheel I have a great video on how to do this here: ruclips.net/video/fsSI8GtghDc/видео.html. Good luck🙂

      @cyclemaintenanceacademy  8 месяцев назад

      @@kindered7988 Hey, thanks for your message, and sorry for the delay - just saw your message. By now, you might have sorted out the issue. Fitting the wheel can be a bit tricky, and the answer to this is patience and practice. If the wheel doesn't go in the dropout one one of the sides let go of the wheel and inspect it visually to find out what is stopping it from going in. Remove the wheel and try again. Hopefully, this tip comes in handy!

    I have the bike upright in the stand. Is this wrong? Should I take it out to get the wheel in correctly?

    • @cyclemaintenanceacademy
      @cyclemaintenanceacademy  10 месяцев назад

      Hi, and thanks for your question. It depends on how confident you are in refitting the wheel so that it sits correctly in the dropouts. The benefit of taking the bike off the stand and turning it over is that gravity works in your favour. You can also fit the wheel on a stand and hold it with your thigh while tightening it. The third option is to fit the wheel in a stand, then remove the bike from it, and finally tighten the wheel. The weight of the bike will hold the wheel in place. I hope this is helpful. Let me know how you got on and which option worked best for you. Warm wishes,

    • @cyclemaintenanceacademy
      @cyclemaintenanceacademy  Год назад

      Hi tahnks for the comment and apologies for not getting back to you sooner. I understand how frustrating it can be when things don't line up quite right. If your chain is twisted, it might take a bit of patience to sort it out. If your derailleur is behaving differently from what's shown in the video, you might want to check the specific model of your bike's components for any differences in operation. If you can recall how you took it off before, that could be a useful clue. And don't hesitate to reach out to local bike shops or online communities for extra guidance - they're often full of helpful tips!

    I have a old vintage road bike and it is not easy at all. Once i got it on and spin it with my hand it will stop like something is hiting it but its nothing in the way.. 🤷 it is not the breaks ,it is not the tire hitting the front of the metal bar that separates the wheel nothing. Hi and thanks for your question. It's a tricky one without seeing the bike. Did this happen since refitting the wheel or di you have this problem before? Try removing the wheel again, grab the both sides of the axle and spin the wheel. If this problem still occurs then this means that there is a problem with the hub and the bearings. Let us know if you find the problem or if you still stuck . Good luck!

    • @cyclemaintenanceacademy
      @cyclemaintenanceacademy  Год назад

      Hi Carlos, thanks for the message and I'm pleased that you found the video useful🙂. Thanks for the question and unfortunately I don't have one answer here. It might help to turn your bike upside down and let gravity help the wheel sit in the dropouts correctly. If the wheel is fitted correctly then you might need to adjust your brakes. For rim brakes we have a great video here that will help you to adjust pads evenly against the rim: ruclips.net/video/tqQHJ0WHYWs/видео.html. If you have disc brakes then this video might be helpful: ruclips.net/video/J8OsyIOovbA/видео.html. If your bike is equipped with hydraulic brakes then make sure that you don't press the lever after the wheel is removed. This sometimes happens accidentally and it causes pushing the pistons out and minimising the gap between the pads and rotor. If this happened then in the video about disc brake adjustment you will find useful tip on how to safely push the pistons back.
      I hope this helps. Let me know what was causing your brakes to rub after refitting the wheel.
