      The witness's view of homosexuality was not so far out of the mainstream that it could only have harmed the defense. While offensive to viewers today, from the perspective of the defense back then, they needed to validate the idea that it's okay to fire gays for being gay, and to show no mercy to those with AIDS. If the defense could win a few jurors like that, then they'd be 2/12ths closer to acquittal.

    The woman (Ms. Benedict) who contracted AIDS via a blood transfusion "after giving birth to her second child" most definitely contracted this disease through her own actions (choosing to give birth). I've always found it interesting that the screen writers opened this door yet chose not to walk through it.

    • @MrSatchelpack
      @MrSatchelpack Год назад +3

      Your average jury is going to make the distinction between bringing life into the world by way of an innocent child to what was more taboo then of having dirty butt sex of the same gender. Considering whatever background or bias the members of the jury has, you don't want to remind them of this distinction even though most level headed folks would consider both perfectly reasonable desires of human life.

      I think that is what Miller is trying to highlight when he indicates that this case has to do with his sexual orientation. This is why he keeps asking the witnesses if they are gay, and in this case, asks about what they did to the guy who was walking nude. They have contempt over gay men. That definitely hurt the defense's case.

    • @annalisavajda252

      Really what about Ryan White the little boy that got tainted blood it's fault for need a transfusion too? I guess I see your point though in a way she contracted the virus sexually had she not gotten pregnant she would not have had to give birth is your logic? Why not blame the baby for not being born in a less traumatic way not all Mothers need blood transfusions. Duh. He just thinks that guy deserves to suffer and die because he's queer. Now women are in the military navy etc. and get raped and victim blamed regularly too that's society for you.

      @@rebounders Thank you. And I do feel bad for homosexuals who have been discriminated against, through no fault of their own. There have been a few gay guys I have known whose boyfriends have told them some pretty raunchy stories about the debauchery that goes on in the gay community, some have basically been to hell and back without contracting HIV, some have contracted it by being married with a family and contracted it by experiencing even one or two encounters with another guy. Ask any woman, we men are sexual creatures, put a large group of men together who are interested in other men.. That is a crazed orgy of insane proportions and even when the facts of HIV were out there it didn't slow them down in their dangerous behavior. Same goes for drug users and sharing needles.
      I find it funny how there is a victim mentality going on in this world, so the people who claim to be a victim don't have to take any responsibility for their own behavior, or actions.
