I was fortunate enough to pick up the west side local paper in 1979 , while living in Manhattan at the age of 22, and there to my surprise in the classified section was Danny Kalb, offering to teach Blues Guitar,,,,, for the next three years I would make to crosstown trek to his 16 th st apt, , one thing I loved was the factr that he had a landlord that actually provided the tenants with heat and hot water, my girlfriend had a three years rent strike which in the end we did win but yeah I froze and rarely got really clean for THREE years anyway So Danny had those creature comforts and it was nice when we sat in his studio, I mean his bedroom and he handed me a piece of paper with about 20 song titles and allowed me to select for the lesson so anyway this song was one I worked on and mastered,, his arrangement involved many genius moves which I can play perfectly but still after these 45 years I still do not know ho he invented them but of course there is also the vocals and that is a whole other conversation This person IO have never knew of until this moment , I was too young to have attended this folk scene and it is amazing that on this day in July in 2023 I have discovered it, and believe that was either there, or certainly knew of Tracy in 1965 thank you for posting it
I'm so envious (but in a good way) when siblings are so talented and get recognition for it - I love it! But it's too bad that Tracy hasn't gotten even moRe recognition that she deserves.
Oh girl you sing to my soul. Been every where. Loved a woman and had children and they gave me 7 grand children. One great child is on the way....but I am a stranger every where. I guess heaven must be my home because it sure isn't here.
@@tracynewman3256 Well it's nice that a music based programme was directed at the younger generation. I like that you explain the message within the song. I watch you with my four year old and three year old. Thanks from New Zealand.
And in addition to my previous comments you are not just a great singer but a great-great guitar picker, just what I like and would be. Congratulation against. Imre
Thanks so much for putting these on here. You are truly a genuine and talented person which make your performances so engaging. And are very cute as well! How long did it take you to learn those songs? You have such a mastery of them and flow right into your dialog like you had been doing this for a long time. Your talent makes this look easy. Loved your facial expression on “I named my wife- run for your life”!
Thank you, Kevin. I was 23 or so when I did these videos. I had been learning the songs pretty much my whole life, but started playing them when I was 14. Thanks for your interest!

Hello Tracy. I came for Pastures of plenty and found another gem :) What that first line of the second verse? My baby......... , Left me a mule to ride. I find that your guitar is tuned down half step and capo'd on forth. What is the reason for doing that?
My baby caught the Katy. I think it was a famous train in Oklahoma that was robbed by the Dalton Gang. My guitar was tuned half step down because I probably wanted to sing a few songs in the E position, but lower for my voice. I hope that makes sense. Then, when I would go to another song, in another key, I would just capo up to whatever. I had no time to tune on these shows. (I had to do the whole half hour straight through (no mistakes or wasted time) because the director didn't want to edit. The crew was made up of students at Brooklyn College, and I don't think she trusted their ability to edit... or her own.) Thanks for watching! Stay well.

@tracynewman3256 Well, you play wonderfully, and have a great folk song voice. I play your songs for my children, and I'm going to start my 9-year old son on guitar soon.
@@nothosaur Thank you! I don't know if you know this, but I did three CDs for children. If you have Siri or Alexa, just ask for music by Tracy Newman. Or got to any of the various platforms, like Spotify, Amazon, I-Tunes, etc. Enjoy!
I’m going to to marry Ms Tracy Newman next generation
Wish I could "like" this as many times as I watch it.
a great song, had to go back to 1965 again...Tracy has a great style
You are so adorable in these videos. I hope you've had a great life.
I have. I'm still having it! I hope you are, too, Bob. Thanks for watching!
Lol ironically I've never known these are on Tracy's own RUclips till I read this

anyway
So Danny had those creature comforts and it was nice when we sat in his studio, I mean his bedroom and he handed me a piece of paper with about 20 song titles

so anyway
this song was one I worked on and mastered,, his arrangement involved many genius moves
which I can play perfectly but still after these 45 years I still do not know ho he invented them
but of course there is also the vocals
and that is a whole other conversation

I love that this was produced as a programme for children.
LOL. I guess I was thinking about older kids, like from 8-12 or so. I remember getting fan mail, but mostly from men!

You taught you to play guitar?
Someone showed me three chords when I was 14, and I learned from there. I really learned from watching and trying stuff and practicing.
