Yeah like this move its sneaky
thanks to Clyde for this session
100% great clip
In old times 'kote' called part of hand from middle of finders to elbow and 'kotegaeshi' means turn that part of hand so twisting only wrist isn't enough to be kotegaeshi in old way.
it's OK for open hand and as used here, as a balance break but the "Kote" was actually the name for the forearm armour, so to "reverse" that meant you were turning the sword away from you as well as taking balance.
@@AIKIDOSILVERDALE it was so popular that every Jujutsu school has it in curriculum if you ask me. In Aikido case I rather look at origins or find references to it.
@@vano-559 good point - ive seens this in wadoryu, ninjutsu, jujutsu and savate too
You should check out what it means in the Malay language... 😋
@@mistermindahenziandalasnus3754 google translate just says kote means "where" in Malay.

reversal of direction through connected flow fundamental
indeed
seen this taught as an "advanced" version lol, its tricky to keep contact but i can see why you use this for beginners too
:)
often shown in other arts apart from Aikido too
yes I saw something the other day from a wado ryu club almost identical
Yes. Good video, but, once you understand the mechanics, you can pull of kotegeishi from all kinds of positions and body placements.
Of course! One of my favourites is using the forehead or chin on the floor! LOL
