- Hello chemistry Kings and Queens. My dad and I have finally finished the shed lab and I will be going over what it looks like! Also, I will be doing a Q&A on the questions you asked me. Lastly, we will be making benzene for a cancer speedrun. Enjoy!

Was not expecting this much chemdelic lore, but was pleasantly suprised to learn more. Walking animation needs work. Loved the vid, would like more longform content where you can discuss the little details more, as many chemists are weak at that but you consistently make an effort.
Love the videos. I went back to school after a long time away. Never in a million years would have thought I’d love chemistry. I have about a year left for my bachelors and then I’m going into my masters. And I have ADHD too 😂
I asked why our chemistry department why they didn’t have a social media presence so they offered my a job making one. Spent the summer making the videos on this page, more on the department Instagram page.
I have classmates that ask me how I got the job and I’m just like uh… I just did it. The department chair had a feeling I was starting a home lab and thought it’d be better to have me work in the lab.
Just finished organic 1 and I’m trying to convince them to let me come back early and make some organic synthesis videos.

Thanks for showing us the lab and shoutout to your dad for helping out. This was really enjoyable. Also maybe the contaminants in the end of the benzene synthesis where just random polymers that probably reacted with the rubber fumes.

I fathom the "mental health issues -> drugs -> study science" pipeline is actually quite prevalent. I recently started to study pharmacy at almost 30 years of age and told people of my story, which is the same as both of yours. Some people looked at me strange and I could feel their disapproval, while some, especially the older ones, told me similar stories. It sucks that there are still people who cannot understand using drugs, especiallly illegal ones.

To answer VladTepes5778’s question: I use what I like to call the ‘Sreetips’ method (ytber)
1) crush ore, screen to -50 mesh
1.5) optional, heat to 800C to oxidize iron/sulfur compounds
2) boil ore in HCL until clear. This will remove most non-precious metals, iron etc. Rinse thoroughly with DW. Discard waste to container with iron bars in it and this will precipitate out base metals.
3) Add dilute nitric acid (2x vol) and boil. Warning this produces lots of toxic gas and has to be done outside or on a fume hood and with caution. Don’t get it on your skin, don’t use nitrile gloves. When fume production ceases, pour waste into waste container. This will contain base metals and silver and you can recover the silver by adding copper pipe to the waste container and the silver will precipitate out. Continue this process until the nitric acid boils clear. Remove remaining acid, rinse w/t DW. Will take about 4-8 boils.
4) add 2x volume of HCL to the ore, then start adding small amounts of nitric while boiling. Start with 1/10 the volume of HCL and then a few mils at a time. This will make aqua regia which will dissolve your gold and PMs. Go slowly and don’t add too much NA.
5) let cool and filter off solution. Rinse thoroughly with/t DW, save solution.
6) add 3-5mil sulfuric acid and then boil solution to reduce to 1/2 volume to remove excess NA. Very important. This will also precip lead which will be removed in next step.
7) dilute solution back to original volume w/t ice cold DW. Filter and Add additional ice. This filter will remove remaining lead and silver.
8) add sodium metabisulfite (SMB) one scoop at a time until the solution foams white. Stir, then add more SMB until it foams up again. This will precipitate the gold.
9) let settle, pour off liquid and rinse w/t DW thoroughly. Optional DE followed by HCL followed by DW boils. Should result in 99% fine gold 24k.
10) for 999 or higher purity, redissolve gold in AR and do steps 5-9 again.
Put your gold powder on melt dish and cover with borax, carefully melt with O/A torch or electric furnace, pour into mold or keep as button.
Mushrooms definitely can change your mindset long-term. More testing needs to be done on this for therapy.
There's a fairly large psychedelic interest to chemist pipeline. Not that everyone wants to make drugs, but there's the thought of "someone really doesn't want me to have this.. but I'm fairly certain I could make it myself if I wanted to." Also the main source of interesting experimental chemistry discussion online before RUclips (and still to a large extent if you look hard enough) was in the forums focused on that sort of thing

Silicone bathroom sealant does a good job at sealing the paint can to glass if you have a sacrificial distillation head.
Right now the two easiest ways to get sulfuric acid as a European are distilling pool pH-lowering liquid which is 15% sulfuric acid, or driving to Poland and buying hydraulik 98% sulfuric acid drain cleaner because nobody gives a fuck about EU regulations over there
I found a 90% sulfuric acid drain cleaner on amazon that ships in most of the EU.

@@y33t23 Unlikely, the sellers obviously don't care as long as you pay them. Amazon doesn't care or they would remove it from their site. And the police is unlikely to check amazon packages as it'd be too much work to do with millions of packages and they assume it's somewhat legal anyway if it's shipped by amazon. I'd still ship it to a friend's house just to be safe, if they find you with all your fancy lab and fancy glassware they are gonna assume you are some sort of criminal matsermind out of their ignorance and complete lack of scientific knowledge. If they find a regular dude who just wanted some drain cleaner it's unlikely they'd charge him with anything, especially when it's amazon who is doing the most illegal thing and you are just buying from them. I can give you the name, but i'd prefer telling you that in private as if this thing becomes too known they might take care of it and I don't wanna ruin it. If you have an email or any private contact I will write you a message.

Just be careful and do a smoke test with your home-built hood/vent. Inline fans are notorious for lacking static pressure. Static pressure insures you're evacuating the whole space. The inline fan I built into a glassblowing setup was anemic except directly below the inlet.

your interest in beginning chemistry is literally the same as me but i took 1p-lsd instead of shrooms. I was even considering going into psychology myself but ended up in biotech. I am debating pursuing either medchem or pharmacology
Where is your eyewash station and emergency shower? If your health department decides to inspect your lab, especially with those chemicals you have acquired, they will likely get rather concerned. You can get inexpensive safety gear that doesn't require plumbing. Better safe than sorry.

Benzedrex inhalers made having a cold much more tolerable. Another thing that worked well banned in the UK because it may have a mind altering effect.

You might be able to get a better benzene yield using potassium hydroxide. It often makes eutectic mixtures with other metals.
So for that guy who asked about starting a kit. The BEST deal that I have found so far is the 30ish piece set from Venvor. It's a little mind boggling at how affordable it is.

Why do mushrooms help with migraines?
Following. My wife has insanely bad migraines and I've been looking for years for a way to help her and I've not heard of this method for diminishing their affects.
@@BackYardScience2000from what I’ve read it’s cluster headaches that they’re specifically effective for, makes sense that they’re effective for migraines too. There are a lot of migraine drugs that are based on ergot compounds which you know are the basis for tryptamines. Mushrooms are insanely easy to grow too, my wife and I grew some several years ago and had more than we knew what to do with.
Micro dosing Mushrooms have been found to "replasticitize"(spelt Rong) the brain like it was in our younger days and the research I am most interested in on this effect is it promoting new pathways for our neurons to form easier, which then makes it easier to change those bad habits that the government hate so much, like addiction to substances. Just as long as it doesn't effect the poor souls who are addicted to gambling, because they enthusiastically endorse the tax revenue from that.

@@zevkurtzman8108 You can own most things, but if you have intention to do something illegal with it, then that’s when the problem arises! Just have documentation of what you’re going to do with it like a lab journal.

I've been away from thez world for a long time; during that time, I read that and studied quite a bit more, I had a similar period in my life of darkness, but didn't quite get focused in the easy fashion.
Normally I wouldn't say this much for the world to see, by I've had a few, and I'm bored ( uh yeah, bad combo)

Burning sulphur and bubbling the SO2 through ice cold hydrogen peroxide solution, then freezing it and then defrosting then boiling down to white acrid fumes us the best a cheapest way of making sulphuric acid if its unacailble in your country.

I don’t understand how you guys can just buy distillation hardware :( in my country it’s not illegal to purchase, but if you do, regardless of sizes or attachments or anything else… you automatically get put on this crazy watch list, and then state AND federal police come to your house with a police forensic chemist and they search your house for the items you purchased, and any other synthetic equipment, reagent, ect and all paper and digital resources. Then they proceed to interview you for hours, on the exact specifics, what were you going to do with that gram of of nitro benzine, how many mol of acetone is that, why do you have sodium hydroxide, what why are you distilling X product to make y product.
They will fully intimidate you to the point where you fell like a criminal, in the hopes that you will just give up trying to learn about chemistry.
If you have any book or article or paper that is even remotely adjacent to something that is adjacent to pharmaceutical or drug production, they will throw the book at you,( even if that book is a first edition) and then they will haul you away for a day while 50 people turn everything in your house inside out, go thru all your online meta data, ect ect and so on.
