  • In todays video, Jay touches on dual injector systems.
    While some cars may benefit from switching to two injectors per cylinder, that isn't always the necessary route. Find out when is the right moment to switch and how to do so properly.

    I have been doing this since 2006 on my Buick Grand National engine equipped Malibu. I cruise around on 93 pump gas and have 116 octane going in the engine after 12 psi of boost. It's ABSOLUTELY THE BEST modification I have ever done to my car. I highly recommend doing this if you can. You CAN do this mod with your original ECU with pressure switches and relays even though Jay says you can't. I know you can because I've done it.

    The Ford RS200 had an inlet manifold with siamesed fuel injectors.
    The Sierra Cosworth RS500 had one fuel injector in the runner and one on the plenumcover.

    Nice one Jay. I went to a staged side by side system. ID1050x and ID2000. The plan is to have the secondary injectors run anywhere from "-5psi" and above even if it's just a little bit, to help keep it clean. The benefit of the side by side over a dual rail is simplicity of plumbing. Downside is what you already described, so I hope that by using them in transitions to boost, not just in boost, that it'll keep it cleaner, longer. I'll add it to my annual inspections to remove the manifold and clean the runners in any event. Already every year I change all orings in the fuel system.

      Hi Jason! you may want to delay the secondary injection a bit longer. What you may experience is a richer than ideal mixture as the secondaries come in due to the minimum fuel the ID2000 can inject. Just keep moving it up until your mixture is proper. I will agree with you on the plumbing statement but feel upstream will always have an advantage from charge cooling to keeping the port clean. I currently have a RMR with side by side injectors on my 2jz. If I could make peace with cutting the apron for a Plasmaman with upstream injectors I'd do it in a second! Thanks and I hope you're well.

    I have a 1.3L that comes from the factory with staged injection, even in N/A format. This uses staged injection not because it requires a lot of fuel but because it has very little time. Rotary engines have half the amount of time to inject fuel at a given rpm compared to a piston motor.

    • @jaymeagher1510
      @jaymeagher1510 Год назад +1

      @@05redser The engines I work on are pretty small so I haven't had injectors that large in my hands. The amount of fuel at minimum PW is quite a bit and because they're mostly run on Methanol on "dry" blocks they use the overfueling to cool the cylinders. Base fuel pressures with mechanical pumps seem to be 75psi and operating pressure depends on boost. I do know that the guys that stay on top of keeping moisture out of the fuel systems have far less trouble with large injectors. When you're needing to flow this much fuel you get into fuel cells with -12 or -16 open vents and depending on your climate water in the fuel can be a real headache to the injectors. Thanks

      @@jaymeagher1510 Thanks for the reply! I was considering doing a 3000cc billet atomozier vs doing a 2 injector setup on a 1100hp 4 cylinder setup. Think I would just opt for the 2 injector per cylinder setup.

    Wait , got to call out the statement that you need more fuel to make the same power, usually that more fuel = more power , not proportionally but the change in oxygen or cooling in the fuel type gives you gains.

    • @timvanderstarre9021
      @timvanderstarre9021 Год назад

      It is a different fuel.
      Foor E85 for example the the air to fuel ratio is 9.9 to 1 in stead of 14.7 to 1
      So you have right there almost 50% more fuel with the same amount of air.
      Now I understand that you can make more power with the same amount of air when using E85 but this difference is less than this 50%.
      The power increase (with the same amount of air) is around 20%
      So his statement is true, when using E85 you need more fuel to make the same power...
      I hope this helps. I'm not an efi specialist and I might be wrong but this is how I understand it. 😁

    • @zeroyon9
      @zeroyon9 Год назад

      @@timvanderstarre9021 this is a great debate as i have seen on many occasions using less fuel makes the same power. Example a 250hp motor on 98 / 18 psi, then makes 290hp on e85 using 30% more fuel and timing, at 18psi. Drop the boost to 12psi on e85, it makes 250hp again but is actually using less fuel than it did on 98. Yes this is a knock limited example but that's what this fuel does. The thing is everyone opts for the more power that comes with using the more fuel. So it's not a comparison many people will make. A huge amount of factors play here, boosted is a big one. The most common retort to my above statement is that scientifically the potential energy of petrol is greater than E85. Which is true of course but ignores the engine efficiency which is very low and the cooling effect of fuels plays a massive part. At the end of the day my call out was to be a little less black and white about it, as more often than not at stoich, the more fuel is more power.

    • @MafiaboysWorld
      @MafiaboysWorld Год назад

      @@zeroyon9 Oooh, fuel debate, lemme in! 😂👍
      As you already know, it's always a balancing act between power making and cylinder cooling. Now the 30% is always a myth. 9.9:1 AFR compared to 14.7:1 AFR is actually a 60% increase, but due to fuel density and BTU's of each fuel, the total volume of fuel used is less than that and equals that 30% number you're quoting. 👍
      Let's not get into the oxygenated unleaded like MS109 vs e98 debate. 😂
