    I really love the balanced view they have. They realize that it was a different set of circumstances that their father had to contend with. It almost makes it that much more clear why many parents use spanking, beating and intimidation as discipline. It's the quick and dirty way to "teach" and keep kids in line because they're scared of you. When you're poor as dirt, facing discrimination that's severe and systematic, and you have twelve kids and a whole lot more understandable. I love that these people took the good in the parenting they received and passed that on to their own kids.

    What Keenan said was very true, it was a different time. I think every child is different and therefore you have to discipline them accordingly so. Some people will tell you that getting spankings did them good because of how they were when they were younger. While some children are more sensitive where talking and other forms of punishments will suffice.

      Well, when you are rich like the Wayans and Oprah, you won't have the stress as most parents have. I doubt you would do things differently than your parents if you worked long hours or had to work two jobs and you come home and the kids didn't clean the house like you told them too, or were acting a fool in the classroom, or sneaking people in and out of your house, or backtalking you, or lying or bullying other kids, or doing drugs, etc...Life just isn't that easy. If it were, it wouldn't be life at all. I really get so sick of rich people telling others how to raise kids when they don't have the worries that the majority of people have in their families.

    • @TitaGoose
      @TitaGoose 9 лет назад +6

      Juwar1974 So, if you are poor and have stress in your life is okay to hit a kid? "Stress", tell that to a police officer when he gets to your house because you hit your wife. Tell that to anyone when you hit them, "I hit
      you because I'm stressed, so that's okay" Morality and principles
      doesn't change just because you are stressed. Hitting when is not

      I’m sure there are a hundred other factors and habits that could just as easily be credited. It’s never as simple as “because of X, Y was the result.” Discipline without support is abuse. Support without guidance is coddling. Establishing an expectation is meaningless without encouragement and recognition when they meet or exceed that expectation.

    Spanking and beating are totally different, Spanking is leading your child with knowledge because it including talking to them. Beating is out of anger leading a child without knowledge of what they did wrong and what they should do that is right in obedience to parents. If you let your kids do whatever they want to do its not freedom your opening them to what is immoral. I'm sure with the Wayans 1st generation kids thanks their parents parental discipline because it lead them to where they are now..

    The problem with beating children is when they get older as older children or even young adults. They feel beating someone is fairgame if they feel the person is in the wrong even though they could be in the wrong and even if theyre in the right they are under the notion that they’ve always got a license to touch someone if they need to. No one should have that license as a notion. Only in self-defence. I remember my aunt told me off for beating my younger cousin because he was acting unruly. I learnt to beat him off her and my mum.

    I had a renewing of the mind..spiritual awakening if you will concerning whipping my children. I realized I didn't want to whip them out of anger. "Be quick to listen slow to speak and slow to anger/wrath" and "as a mother comforts her child so I will comfort you" are passages that I came across in the Bible that taught me what to desire as a parent. I didn't have that mindset with my oldest daughter and I believe our relationship suffered as a result, and is still suffering. With my youngest, we are closer and heal from upsets quicker because I give her and myself space to be corrected and allow prayer to guide our understanding as mother and daughter rather than ruling with the whip. Now when she gets out of line she always comes back to apologize with a hug and kiss. The Spirit of God corrects and chastises both of us. There's a lot I don't know. Lord knows I feel lost as a parent at times. But, I hope future generations will grow in enlightenment and be guided with godly wisdom in how to "train up a child." And I hope I get a better understanding also.

    I come from an African family and when I say I used to be spanked on a daily basis believe me, do I I think is fair to spank on children? No I don’t i would never spank my children, I used to be spanked so often that it didn’t even mean nothing to me, It got to the point that I was acting up because I knew I could get away with it after a bit of spanking and that it would be over, it didn’t teach me anything, I used to be very bad I even became a bully and started beating up everyone that said something to me, and I think that was just a result of all that spanking. In the long run spanking doesn’t teach you anything but talking and engaging with children works wonders. My mama never done that to me and I wish she did.

    Yo, different strokes for different folks...Abuse and discipline are 2 different things and some twisted minds say discipline when it's clearly abuse, well Im meaning discipline, my grandfather put a belt to me when i git outta hand, no bruises, not prolonged, no verbal abuse,theres a difference and as a result I grew up with boundaries, respect and I knew how to behave when he wasnt around.I agree with talking to your child and getting dialogue going, but a swat on the butt or hand isn't abuse. Abuse and lack of discipline leads some children into disturbing behavior as they grow

    I believe in a healthy balance, when talking is required then you speak but when the times comes to apply stern discipline then it should be used the Bible says spare the rod spoil the child.

    Shawn "hardly" ever gets to say anything. WHY is he ALWAYS cut off, as if he wasn't/isn't there, or had any importance in what he wanted to get out? I've picked up on this ALOT. I CAN'T be the ONLY person who notices.

      I noticed it too. But when you watch his solo interviews he seems so organic, wise and intelligent. I don't get why they never let him talk

    Spankings aren’t all bad not are they the answer to everything. It should be in the tool box but it doesn’t always have to be the go-to

    There is a difference in spanking and abuse.

    • @fe5018
      @fe5018 5 лет назад +1

      Spanking is a form of physical violence. The literal definition of abuse includes the use of violence.
      You want to split hairs about degrees of physical force but the fact is that laying hands on your kids in any violent form is inherently abusive, whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

    I dont have kids yet, but I don't think I'd want to spank them. I think ot can also depend on how its done. I have some experience with kids from taking care of my niece and I yelled at and spnked her and felt like such a monster. I didn't like how it made me or her feel. She was a sweet child, but stubborn and didn't take well to instruction all the time. I didn't like making her feel scared, but when I sat her down and spoke stern enough to where she knew what she did was wrong, she would cry and apologize and hug me. I found that that was enough for her.
    In my family, me and my sister got beatings. We didn't get a few swats to the behind either. We got several licks from head to toe by my dad, which is a pretty big guy and sometimes after he'd stop, he'd resume to give us more, thinking we didn't have enough. I feared him growing up and we never had that kind of relationship to where things were talked out b/c what he said is how it ot went. I think his whipping were abusive with the amount of rage and anger behind his several lashings.

    As always, Damon is nowhere to be found. Damon must find them annoying. He's always the only one missing. In damn near every project or public appearance it's: Marlon and Shawn Wayans, with maybe an appearance from Kim Wayans, a few lesser known nieces and nephews & directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans who might appear.
    Examples:
    1. Don't be a menace to south central while drinking your juice in the hood.
    2. White Chicks
    3. Scary Movie
    4. Scary Movie 2
    5. Little Man
    6. Thugaboo
    7. In Living Color Season 4 Intro.
    8. In Living Color reunion.

    Swear the rod, spoil the child. Discipline is needed at times. However sounds like their kids turned out good, even though they weren't spanked.

    I really enjoyed in living color & kenans movies i'm gonna get you sucka & low down... as far as the rest of his family other than maybe damon & marlon, they just aren't that funny unless they're mocking someone (I guess). oprah was one of them & she forgave them when kim went on her show crying & asking for forgives...what? I thought "comedians" had license to trash people & say its just jokes.. they remind me of the kardashians w/everybody having to be center stage no matter what.

    This generation is irresponsible, indisciplined, violent, coz they are not spanked. In Africa we spank and families that spank have disciplined successful children. Those that don't spank have heartless brats.
