Just found your video series, Joe. I'm extremely new to this field as my employer wanted me to start learning Fire Alarm Systems as a side to my Network Engineering position. So far, I attended an 81 hour course that taught me basically nothing, and that's the extent of my knowledge in this topic. As such, I looked for videos on the interwebs and found you! You've taught me more in the last 27 videos than my 81 hour course did. So, I ask on behalf of the other nearly TEN THOUSAND subscribers and myself, please make number 28!
Joe, I am teaching low voltage building systems at a reputable technical college. Your videos helped me during my early days as a systems designer and they will now be used in my class room. I hope to see number 28 at some point!
your videos are great and help a lot of professionals, I would like to know how an elevator recall fire alarm is wired and that smoke in elevator lobby (mandatory) how that is wired
I plan on making a video showing the FCPS being triggered off of a control module. I'm not sure what you mean about the control module running from the NAC outputs on the FACP. The control module would typically get its power from the AUX terminals on the FCPS and it would be "triggered" through programming and via the SLC from the FACP. Hopefully when I make that video it will clear it up a bit.
Yeah. They either require whatever power is going to be put onto their output. Generally either 24 VDC in the case of horns and strobes or power from the amplifier in the case of speakers.
To just bypass bells it's usually pretty easy to figure out. Notifier is almost always all 1s, EST is usually all 2s or 3s I believe. Simplex is either 333 or 3000 depending on the panel. Mircom I believe is essentially the same as EST. MXL panels are usually 07927.
Hey Joe, are you planning on putting out any mere videos any time soon? I really find your videos useful and educating and I would really like to learn more.
Hi Joe, thanks for all the videos. They have been extremely helpful throughout my apprenticeship. I was wondering if the FCPSs could be triggered off of a control module running from the NAC outputs on the FACP?
Do you think you would ever make any videos on troubleshooting using a multimeter? I would love to learn more, your videos are so helpful, I'm new to the industry and am so thankful man, God bless you for taking the time, it's greatly appreciated
+Stephen Lehman I should, but I kind of god lazy and stopped making any videos. I wanted to make some explaining the difference between voltage, resistance, and current, and then how to read those on a meter. It's really important to know. It's also a bit difficult to teach, particularly in a format like this. There are people who have made videos on using a mutlimeter online. I respect those people, but I wanted to make one that was specific to our industry because there are many features of a multimeter that we will never use (likely) in fire alarm troubleshooting.
Just discovered your channel Joe. Awesome work. I had a question that knowing the answer isn't really important but I have always been curious. Do you know how hitting "signal silence" on an FACP silences horns but allows strobes to still pulse? Is it something about reducing voltage to a level that only the strobe component works? Is it witchcraft? Thought I would ask
I think it's witchcraft. It definitely has to do with the sync signal, maybe it only pulses the sync signal so quickly that the horn can't activate? I'm honestly not sure.

Thanks for the reply.. I guess all control modules must have an extrernal source of power, other than the 12v from the SLC?
Yeah. They either require whatever power is going to be put onto their output. Generally either 24 VDC in the case of horns and strobes or power from the amplifier in the case of speakers.
