DO WE LIKE PICKLED EGGS? | Pantry Pub Eggs Taste Test

  • About 3 weeks ago we canned up a jar of shelf-stable pickled eggs: • PUB EGGS | Super EASY ... It was a super simple recipe of just vinegar, pickling spice, and a few red pepper flakes. They're been sitting on a dark shelf in our pantry every since - and it's finally time to try them out! Our son Nick went to school up in the UP of Michigan. Pickled eggs are quite popular up there - all the local bars and pubs have a jar just sitting on the bar (shelf stable). So of course, we had bring him on board to help test the eggs ♥

    Pickled eggs are very common in curling clubs here in Winnipeg. The big jars usually just sit on the counter unrefrigerated and each egg costs about $1 or $2. A super simple, yummy snack.

    Pickled eggs are the best, really nice in a bag of ready salted crisps (plain chips) the vinegar drips over the salted crisps, lovely. Also a good addition in a Ploughman’s lunch. A staple in my cupboard.

    That's so nice having one of the kids involved, makes me homesick. Anyyywaaay.... We LOVE pickled eggs too! I thought I wouldn't, but I DO! I make mine with half & half cider vinegar and regular. I'm a dill junkie so I put at least one nice little branch of dill in the jar. I change it up from time to time and add a bit of this and a bit of that, but ya. Pickled eggs are a staple in our house, esp. with hubby always trying to stay keto and all. I keep mine in the cold room (about 50F), they keep just fine.
    Enjoy!!

    If you put pickling spices in it, that’s where the sweetness comes from. It has cinnamon, cloves, coriander, bay, allspice, cloves, peppercorn, mustard seed, and ginger. Several of these spices lend toward sweetness. I think I would like these if I could get past the texture because I like deviled eggs and egg sandwiches also. Your son is just too cute. It was nice that he joined you today.

    i have been pickling eggs for years and will even use an old pickle jar with only the leftover juice. My preference is to fill a jar loosely with eggs so i have a large amount of juice to flavor the eggs. You can use a less powerful juice to make milder flavor eggs also. Spicy hot eggs are great for game days at my place.......

    Glad you like them! It seems to be one of those things you either love or hate. Though I find people often hate the idea of it and won't even try them. It's a very traditional 'pub snack' here in England. Often with malt vinegar which I find a little strong but half and half with white is very good. You can mix it up with so many different herbs and spices but just plain old vinegar is the best :)

    Try using 50% of 5% vinegar with the Mrs Wages Dill Pickle seasoning. The standard I've found and researched is to use 50% vinegar of the 5% vinegar.
    One standard package of Mrs Wages uses different proportion of vinegar for pickles but I'm assuming due to ph of cucumbers. I'm using the 50% vinegar with Mrs Wages on eggs and also beans, with good results.

    You should try pickled okra. I don't like pickles. There's only one type of pickle that I like and it can be found in a deli in Detroit. But, anyway, this summer I didn't know what to do with all the okra, so I started putting it in water, salt and vinegar with a little hot pepper, and we discovered that we loved it. So, now my mom buys like six jars of Texas Pickled Okra. For me though, I don't like the dill pickled flavor. But, I plan on making some for her this summer with our okra, and some with vinegar and salt for myself.

    • @beckystone7994
      @beckystone7994 3 года назад

      Pickled Okra is delicious also pickled green beans ( just wash the green beans and pack them in the jars whole don’t cut or snap them just leave like they came off the vines but washed and pit in jars) add your spices , salt and vinegar and you can use some red pepper flakes if you want some heat! I love dill so I use dill weed also , I use 1 TBS of dill weed per Qt. Of vinegar !

    Love the videos!! I have made ones for the refrigerator, but would love to try these, too. How long would you say they can stay on the shelf? How long can they keep once opened. Thanks in advance.

    I didn't read through all the comments but have you considered malt vinegar? In England, some pubs use malt instead of white or apple cider.
