that man's gift for melody. I would believe he came up with such eternal songs as "Happy Birthday to You", "Little Brown Jog"... even "Whipping Horse Pulling Food."
@@JunkBondTrader oh yeah, I forget that before he did all that punk rock stuff he was a fairly serious St. Louis blues man. "Electric Ellison and the Kaboominets"
New unreleased version of bottle up and explode was a nice surprise. Now if they would do this same treatment with all of the Basement Era material like it deserves all would be well with the world. To do that it will have to be released as a box set because there is probably enough material for 4 CDs. And that means that Jon Brion releases all the material that was originally recorded that Elliott scrapped because of the relationship going bad. We want it all. Including the material that his family thought may be too cryptic for release. Keep it coming man.
" --Including-- _ESPECIALLY_ the material that his family thought may be too cryptic for release." Just felt compelled to share that lil correction. 🤏🏻 😉
Where's my sister, Ashley ? I couldn't find you sweetie.. I love this man so much..he is the next Nick Drake..people weren't ready for him at the time..he will be a discovered jewel in years to come..to many others..
a comment below was right, bottle up and explode, the last track of this album... nice suprise. thought i heard it all, every demo every version. thank you cant believe im just finding out about these cds
David Watson yes they are. "New Moon" is probably the best collection of posthumous music from an artist ever. Never forget turning it over expecting to see live stuff, and 7" b sides I have, only to discover 24 studio cuts I'd never heard. ❤KRS.
quietinstrumentals you know, in hindsight, seeing him in Seattle/Olympia 1996@1997 was a life changing event. The yo-yo a go-go live tracks really capture the supernatural quality of the guy. If you haven't seen it, check out the "grand mal studio rarities" bootleg, it's 8discs of unreleased Elliott studio tracks and stuff. Well worth the look. It's crazy to hear these live tracks. I was there! His songs seemed like they just sprang out of thin air.
Dox Fill sorry to burst your skepticism, but it's him. His sound engineer vouched for the first four discs, I knew Mr Smith a bit through mutual friends and had bootlegs of most of the first 4 (wish I could say we were friends but I only got to hang with him a handful of times and was too star struck to really get in there) so I can vouch for a lot of the studio tracks myself. The later ones are almost entirely live alts and instrumentals. His voice is tough to fake. I can see why you'd think the instrumentals weren't him, but songs like stickman, the enemy is you, dancing on the highway, how to take a fall, taking a fall, true love was on there years before it was on the doc soundtrack, suicide machine, a living will, the Beatles cover "because," and place pigalle, figure 8,....it's an Elliott Smith goldmine.
My brother Ryan Zabel would talk to Elliott Smith about his feelings for me... Uh, sexual. And sexually, physically, psychologically, and financially abusive. Ryan would talk to Elliott Smith online... May have met him in person, too. Ryan may have. I never did. He passed, Elliott Smith did, before I was in a position to talk to him or anyone online. Unless, he died after 2003... 6:30 6:31 6:32 6:33 6:34 Did Ryan call Elliott Smith by my name ever? 7:25 7:26 7:27 7:28 7:29 7:30 7:31 7:32 7:33 7:34 7:35 7:36
Yeah this B-side contains some of my favorite songs of all time, but I'm still kinda pissed that when I ask Alexa or Google Home for "New Monkey," they play this one instead of the one on New Moon lol

Elliott was a master all the way around. Such an incredible guitarist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and singer. We miss you Elliott!

I agree. I would pay for any and all additional released material.
Better buy this up then, use current sales figures as leverage against future ones

It would be nice but not in our life time and that's a bummer.
'cryptic'
The guitar for Angeles is absolutely beautiful. ❤

Thank you so much! KRS is the best!

I don't think most of what's on those albums is Elliott. The first couple yes, but the later ones sound like tribute acts.
Grand mal I mean.

I never did.

also, I gotta say Angeles has suddenly become almost unbearably sad for me. I know thats not interesting. I just wanted to share it.
Jekyl Whispy that's how I feel about the 96 version of "you make it seem like nothing." His music was devastating enough while he was alive.
It is the most painfully beautiful thing he left us.
XO :)
just exactly then is i needed it when... 12:51
lubbbly
I wonder how Elliott Smith felt about Olympia.
