    This was a great video it really was and I laugh when I see a full size truck with no winch heading into that country but then I have to think back to when I was young and did the same thing lol.
    These are quad/sxs trails mainly that have now had Jeeps trying to do them.
    It’s such a wet area that usually what happens is one of two things. Either the Trail gets better or the Trail gets totally trashed and then it’s not even fun for anybody on a quad to try and ride it let alone somebody in a jeep.
    I own both jeeps, quads and side-by-side’s, and some of that area has some good jeep country, but most of it is only Atv/sxs friendly just because of it being so wet and muddy.
    As soon as somebody makes a video like this almost always from an outsider that doesn’t live around here it makes the trail more popular and more people hit the trail and then the trail is under the radar and it’s usually going to get altered or shut down just like Ruby Falls Trail. So many videos on that trail from people that don’t even live here and guess what that trail is getting rerouted. We just keep seeing it time and time again the RUclipsrs are probably making 20 bucks off their videos . I don’t know. I don’t know the answers anymore.
    In some ways, I like the fact that the Trail is being used more regularly so then it keeps it open because we do get lots of high winds and lots of blow down around our trails so it’s a constant battle keeping the trails open. Sometimes we’ll have trails that don’t get ridden in for an entire year and that’s all it takes to make that trail become lost and then 10 years later somebody gets motivated enough to go and reopen it.
    Then, because of these videos, and so many people using a trail, it becomes noted on the government radar so then they want to jump in and manage the trail. Well, then it becomes nothing more than a gravel Road no challenge just a drive through the bush. No thanks not many of us off roaders Want to ride easy trails.
    So what’s the answer? I think basically as long as the big mud holes are addressed, they don’t have to be eliminated. They just have to have a maximum depth of a couple of feet. With the new side-by-side’s even and then of course the Jeeps and trucks they’re just heavy enough that they dig down so far that when you try to go through it with a side-by-side or a quad it just makes it a real pain in the ass and sometimes you can make a go around which is fine but other times you’re on the side of a cliff and you can’t.
    This area is kind of the wild west of offroading. There’s not very many rules like there are down south and a city slicker might find the trails down south as being awesome and let’s face it Some of them are awesome but a lot of them are trails that 90 year, old, granny and grandpa would ride all day long lol.
    Just reading in the first couple of comments you can see how a video like this has an affect on a trail because already there was the first two people saying they were going to try and hit that trail so to say that these videos don’t have an impact wouldn’t be right.
    I think people in the jeep community, as well as ATV and side-by-side‘s need to work together on certain trails, so we are more effective at keeping the trail open. Personally, I don’t care if I run into a jeep on the trail what bugs me as when a trail used to be pretty good going The ruts were only a couple feet deep at most when just quads rode it, and then it turns into a mud hole every step of the way from the big heavy Jerps and sxs’s.I like mud, but not every 20 feet.
    But at the end of the day like I say, I think we need to work together to keep these trails open. One other thing to note is that there was another epic jeep trail/quad trail in the area that got rerouted about four years ago, and it was all because of The government wanting to save the fish habitat so anytime you get a trail that crosses rivers you can just about guarantee they’re going to want to shut it down and the more we advertise it on RUclips and Facebook and all these other platforms we’re just shooting ourselves in the foot.
    But again, sometimes we need traffic on the trail to keep it open. I’m not bashing you or anything I’m just talking about the things that I’ve seen over the last 30 years.
    off Roading is my main passion and I’ve kept Trails secret for 20 years only to see them totally grown in and nobody riding them so sometimes certain trails need to be talked about And I think we need to designate certain trails for certain types of vehicles. In Alberta, we have a new trails act and I think this is going to happen and I would like to see more jeep trails be opened up and I don’t see why it can’t happen, but there’s going to be a lot of maintenance needed to the trails to sustain that because when people show up with full-size pick up trucks, they often do more damage trying to spin their way out of a mud hole and somebody with bigger tires that would just crawl out of it like nothing.
    Where do we find the balance so that we don’t make a trail Super easy yet so hard that nobody wants to ride it.
    Just things I’m throwing out there for people to think about.

      Very well said. I wasn’t the organizer of this run and when I saw the pickup I knew we were in for a long day as I knew how narrow this trail was. I’m not sure I would call it an ATV specific trail as it had a jeep sized driving line. We did end up parking the truck, but IMO it should have stayed at the pembina road. Agree with your take on the mud holes; trails for tomorrow actively preps trails throughout the summer; they target mud holes. I also l know that my pal Steve has spent time on this trail repairing it and making sure it’s taken care of. I believe he did a lot of work around the washout section. I think this is one of the trails we need to keep in good shape; and some traffic will help this. For this specific trail I’m not overly concerned about people rushing to do it because you will need a new paint job afterwards; this will be a deterrent for most members of the various Jeep groups. At least that’s been my experience; as soon as they hear the words “pinstripes are likely” they scatter.
      I’m curious how many mud holes would develop on this trail in the summer months. We did run into a couple of them, but they weren’t very deep and might have only existed due to the melting snow, again I’ve not done this trail in the summer to know for sure. But totally agree with you; I hate mud holes; they should all be filled….if only that were simple to do!
      As a RUclipsr it’s tough; we want to tell a cool story but at the same time we don’t want to cause a rush on any specific trails. I try to keep the locations as private as possible and this one isn NOT that easy to find as the trailhead looks more like a roadside pullout. And again, very very few enthusiasts would be willing to subject their body to abuse like this trail unleashes. My channel is so tiny I don’t think I will ever cause a rush to a trail.
      I have heard that several trails in waiparous are being reopened; so maybe the AB government is taking a different approach? More like BC…if it gets used it stays open…Rady Creek FSR comes to mind. I truly believe the only reason it hasn’t been closed is due to the usage it’s seeing. I know the trails in Waiparous are on the easy side, but it’s nice to hear about trails getting reopened instead of closed.
      Thanks for the feedback; it’s always appreciated!

    I have to say I"m only 5 minutes into this video and I had to stop and say thanks for filming this trip! If I ever get out to Alberta I'd love to give it a go. nice video!

      Thanks! It's an interesting trail that's for sure and it's a beautiful area! One of the densest forrests I've seen in Alberta that's for sure! Worth the trip.

      Heheh. I’ve had some bad experiences with full-size pickups on trail runs in the past. Scott did pretty good considering how wide it was…and how narrow that trail was. Good thing it’s white; can’t imagine the pin-striping!

    Another great video.
    I had to laugh when Scott said truck made it out with no dents, knowing he hit a deer leaving Edson the next day. Sorry Scott. Damn irony.
    Pretty sure even if we made it to those knotches. I'm not too sure how well I'd do crossing them. Be laying dead fall in them to raise up the one wheel. Lol

      Poor Scott! Yeah the washouts are deep; there *might* be a bypass but I'm not 100% sure. Either way, could have been fun but IMO this is more a summer trail. It's very low on my list of trails to revisit.

    Hi I see you’re going on a trip to Moab March 26nd. 2024. I’d love to go. We are just loading up to head south for the winter. We’ll pull the Jeep behind the motorhome. Just wondering if it’s a camping trip? I know how much you love camping in a tent! Or will you be heading back to Moab at the end of each day? Knowing something about the trip would help me to know what I should bring with us south. Thanks

    • @JustEmptyEveryPocket
      @JustEmptyEveryPocket  8 месяцев назад

      Yes; I am working on the logistics of that trip over the next few weeks. I can't answer the camping question yet though; I would like to do that for one night, but just not 100% sure yet. It really depends on who my passenger is LOL! A lot of the trails are day-trips (Like Fins & Things). But there are some longer trails that I would also like to do. Once I have the detailed schedule I will post here as well as on www.JustEmptyEveryPocket.ca & my facbook pages. I believe the weekend after is the Easter Jeep Safari, but I wasn't neccessarily planning to stay in the area for that one...

    • @JustEmptyEveryPocket
      @JustEmptyEveryPocket  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@donaldmoore1252 I don’t believe there are for full-size vehicles. I do know they are required for OHVs…but my understanding is that it’s not required for jeeps. I will be doing my homework on all this and posting all information.
