Not gonna lie.....I used to run around with a Nintendo controller wrapped around my belt. Loved the LOZ crossovers.
Would be so awesome if the voice actors and the actor that played real life Captian N and the cartoon makers could be interviewed. Also Kevin's room looks like it's straight outta Saved by the Bell
Also the Power Glove was in no way shape bad... it was horrendous lol!
All those solid, bright 90's colors lol
I knew of it as a kid but never got to see it as I knew of Legend of Zelda cartoon as well but we only got The Super Mario Super show and when mates from down south told me about it, I really wanted to watch it bacj then watched it as a big kid and remember my mate saying that their was livened music on the show like Suoer Mario Bros show but I guess when I watched it that licencing got to them with a ciece and decease, still a awesome show with great animation
Loved Captain N as a kid!
There needs to be either Captain N, or a varsity jacket costume for Mii-Gunner in Smash Ultimate. A true way to compliment Nintendo itself.
I've actually seen some custom ones on Etsy. But they're pretty expensive. I would love to snag one.
Terraria added it
TIL Mother Brain was played by Levi Stubbs... Who also did the voice of Aubrey II in the 80s version of little shop of horrors and was the lead singer of the Four Tops
RIP Stubbs
It doesn’t help that Eggplant Wizard looks like that and then he says those things 😂
I'm enjoying the heck outta this. I want more Captain N reviews.
That "Action Theme" in the episodes is an instrumental version of a song they used in later seasons called "Mega Move". In the original airings, they used covers of pop songs back in the late 80s and early 90s, but had to swap them out for copyright reasons. Sad too, cause I liked the covers they used during the originals.
Yeah, episode one had Shakedown from Beverly Hills Cop 2
lol captain innuendo is too accurate. definitely enjoying this. keep it up.
I watched this as a kid...remember none at first but seeing this again I'm like...yeah that happened. lol
Mega man - the voice of a heavy smoker or someone stuck in constipation limbo 😂
I always thought this version of Mega Man sounded like Popeye the sailor. All he needs are some inflated arms, and anchor tattoo, a corncob pipe, and a can of spinach.
@@benjaminfeld6388 "It's like if Popeye smoked an entire Marlboro factory!" - Doug Walker.
Mega wow! That's mega mean!
One of my new favorites from you, I'd absolutely love to see more of this
Hey thank you for that. That means alot to hear. I'd love to do more but I want to be sure viewers are enjoying it.
I remember this series fondly. Also its amusing how Simon doesn't look like the Actual Simon Belmont, yet Ages later, Cid Highwind from FF7 looks just like him only with pale skin and a different weapon. Well shrank the chin and such but the outfit... I enjoyed how all the worlds were connected and well you're right, it was Smash before there was Smash.
One thing that surprised me in the first episode was that Kevin knew exactly how to use his power pad. Also how when Simon, Kid Icarus and Mega Man were arguing with each other when the Princess is captured at that point, and Kevin had used his power pad to pause everyone in place but it didn't pause everyone when they escaped on those craters from the volcano.
That controller of his works however it feels like working at any given time lol.
@@GamerThumbTV I would definitely say so, lol. Screw the rules.
Gotta feel bad for Gary Chalk for having to deliver those lines as King Hippo.
being how i was born in 1985 how did i not know about this till now, that salad toss moment had me rolling
Oh yea, this was part of the Nintendo Power Hour. I used to record it on a bunch of blank VHS tapes when I was a kid.
@@GamerThumbTVi see
Nice episode! Good to see Bayou Billy getting some love. Was one of the toughest games. I needed to survive to the final boss with both a whip and a bulletproof vest to have a chance. After beating him you have to defeat his huge bodyguards. I beat it exactly once.
The Zelda crossover episode was neat.
I remember that. Weren't his minions wearing some kind of robot armor too?
just get the japanese mad city cart and a 60 to 72 pin converter. WAY more fun without all the anti-rental horseshit
Ah Captain N a series that gave us some infamous designs to iconic video game characters.
Starting around 1991, while season 3 was being aired on NBC, the series was syndicated on The Family Channel. I didn't know it at the time, but the episodes were sped up slightly time compressed to make room and fit in more commercials, making episodes around 2 minutes shorter. Episodes were split into 4 acts instead of 2 or 3, adding an extra commercial fade. Family Channel airings also included the featured songs that played on the NBC airing, unlike later airings on WGN, Fox, and USA Network. In 1992, while airing the Family Channel, it was played on local Fox affiliates, although in certain areas were the Fox affiliate didn't broadcast children's shows (such as WTTG in Washington, D.C.), it was shown on the WGN SuperStation. The show rotated four Nintendo cartoons (Captain N, Super Mario 3/World, and The Legend of Zelda) each day. This was the first time the featured chase songs were edited out in Season 1 with an instrumental version of the "Mega Move" song from "The Feud of Faxanadu".
In the early fall of 1993, the show was removed from syndication. Starting in the winter of 1994, USA Network briefly began showing reruns of the series on their Sunday lineup on their USA Cartoon Express animation block. Unlike other reruns, USA opted to edit scenes out of various episodes to cut the length down to their required limit in order to fit in more commercials.
I certainly would like to see more content like this.
Pit - voice nearly drove me insane like the original Broly
MegaMan - WTF
Simon Belmont - a douchebag mountain climber
King Hippo - looked like he was brought back from the dead
And my favorite.....
Mother Brain - looked like a rejected Ghostbusters spirit with the voice of mama Payne or Sheneneh from Martin
This is what I see the years gone by
Ironically enough, mother brain was voiced by the late Levi Stubbs, who also did the voice of Audrey 2 in the 80's Little Shop of Horrors remake.
@@GAMEPRODELTA yeah, I liked that dude, God rest his soul🙏

All the nostalgia!!! Great video! Can't wait for the next episode!
the one thing about Captain N, no crossover with The Adventures of Super Mario 3
I watched the show back then.
22:57 if an alligator actually made that sound I would be out of there faster then the flash
I would love to see Captain N,Freakazoid And Captain Planet get Live Action Movies!
you're not wrong about Mega Man's smoker voice. Personally, I always thought he sounded like Popeye the sailor. "agagagagaga"
26:40
Mother Brain talking about rematerializing actually makes sense because she's a video game character and they respawn
Thanks for making my day Fabian, I only ever saw episode 1 and forgot how funny Capitan N was, great job buddy 👍
Thanks for checking it out, glad you enjoyed.
greit vid i remember bits and pices of dese show
What a wonderful example Kevin was to not go back home, huh?? To tell kids that it's better to run away from their responsibilities, huh?
It certainly not what I would call moral. But I guess the writers were going for a more comedic approach rather than trying to teach an important life lesson.
There is one thing you left out. Like with the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Captain N use to play cover versions of our favorite songs like Danger Zone, Thriller, Born on the Bayou, even the theme from Bonanza when they first aired. But now, due to fear of lawsuits from the song makers, just like the aforementioned Super Show, they dropped the cover songs and replaced them with instrumental version of Mega Move. Other than that, nicely done on the review. Keep it up.
Simon Belmont here is basically Gilderoy Lockhart.
Captain 'N'uendo 🤣😂
Yes, very much enjoying
I watch it and loved it also big video games fan ❤
yeah belmont is the real head scratcher of the bunch. i was always so confused by his whip being a sentient object, like what were they smoking? i also never realized how good the soundtrack was with the remixes. im looking forwards to this series because some of this stuff is pretty hilarious. but i might end up wanting to punch icarus if i gotta hear too much of his dialogue. i must’ve purged his voice from my memory bank.
In my head canons, I always depicted Simon as a combination of a bad ass warrior preacher, the kind that can take on a whole nest of vampires single-handedly all the while quoting Bible verses, with a softer, kinder, and more comedic side which he could seemingly bring out at random.
Certainly not this narcissistic, blowhearted buffoon we gotten this cartoon.
well, for he vampire killer, later games eventually made it so it WAS sentient, though not to this level.
I don't remember Mega Man being green! lol
Green, chubby, and that voice lol.
Deep cut my room in the 80s looked like that 😂😢
Ya know , considering how big Donkey Kong is, and how ...human-looking, he is ( especially in the face) , I suspect he's more inspired by George from Rampage. He was always more of a giant Man-Ape ( quite literally really).
Or King Kong. Technically inspired every giant gorilla character.
That Castlevania Chronicles poster is beautiful! Also, Select as pause was in Resident Evil 4 too. I don't remember was it also in the first two God of War games.
I hate it lol...Should always be start.
@@GamerThumbTV Select is so distracting, especially during intense combat. I'm not a big fan of Super Metroid's Select cycle either. Maybe I'm nostalgic for Fusion's control scheme since it was the first Metroid I ever played but I think R-button is perfect for missiles.
The first Megaman game also used Select as pause.
With all the odd, stuff, going on in these episodes. I feel less racy saying, Lana is a banger. And yes, I feel, 80ish.
I loved watching this show as a kid! Nice review! I'll.watch this review series of yours!
I also like Gameboy coming in Season 2. I believe most of or all of the episodes are on RUclips.
I like how Game Boy is supposed to be some sort of super computer in their world haha.
Damn I got to get the Bayou Billy comics now thanks gamerthumb this and the turok comic and doom comic I must put more comics on my wall
5 issues. Might be able to snag them up on ebay pretty cheap. I don't think they ever got popular at all.
Got Mega Man sounding like a cracked out Rey Mysterio smh
Captain n looks sooo weird but the show looks like the old mario bros
They're both from the same era, along with the Zelda cartoon too.
Surprised you didn't mention the nonexistent background when Kevin runs into that first gator.
I found this on IMDB....
Captain N: The Game Master (1989)
The episode How's Bayou has two different versions. The original version aired on September 16, 1989 and never again. It had a lot of unfinished/raw animation, different music/dialogue/scenes/etc., and a lot of other little differences. The "finished" version aired all subsequent times. Strangely, the DVD includes the rare, first version, and not the later better-known version.
Yea some episodes had some different versions depending on when they aired. You can see alot of weird cuts in the episodes where you can tell footage was either taken out or added.
Also, I'm pretty sure that, technically speaking, Capt. N. came out before the first Donkey Kong Country game.
So I'm pretty sure their version of the big hairy ape is a combination of the character from the original arcade game, with a little bit of King Kong, who may or may not have served as some inspiration for Donkey Kong, thrown in.
Fun fact: Nintendo got sued by Universal over the Kong name, and a judge determined that Universal didn't even own the rights to Kong lol.
King Hippo... IDK man lol
Idk what the hell they did to him lol
Dude, when I was growing up in the late 80s into 90s their wasn’t any story Contexts to any of those characters, so donkey Kong country was about a Giant Gorilla kidnapping a Princess with a plumber climbing stairs to Rescue her.
There was already Two Castlevania games at the time it started with “Simon Belmont” not Vincent Belmont. On the Box Cover there was blonde headed man with a Whip.
Correction: Donkey Kong was about saving a woman named Pauline. Donkey Kong Country was about saving a giant banana horde.
does anyone remember hearing captain n for the first time on the nostalgia critic
I enjoy your review of the episode and I can't wait for you to do more now for the entire series I thought Captain N was okay show despite it's many many flaws. I don't know if you're aware of this but there was an attempt to remake the series the difference is that the new captain N was going to be a girl in fact there is a video of the concept pilot it was amazing but Nintendo rejected it
I saw that, it was a concept someone did. It looked alright but this show really was a product of its time. Making a modern version wouldn't be recognizable at all.
You don't say. How interesting.
@@GamerThumbTV you know we really don't see any Nintendo properties being adapted to movies or TV shows
@@animezilla4486 That might changes. The Despicable Me people are doing a Mario movie. If that does well we're sure to get more stuff. Especially since Detective Pikachu did so well
@@GamerThumbTV yeah I'm really looking forward to that Mario movie I wonder when it's supposed to come out
the reason mega man's so strong is because he has the guts arm from mega man 1 equipped. which is also why he neer uses the mega buster
I don't think they thought of it that deeply when making this series lol.
Captain n should be the next smash character
I've been wanting this forever.....
Blame congress. This was to be a lot more accurate but the laws changed about 30 minute toy commericials from how loose they were in the early 80s. So they altered heavily to prevent having to change later.
Not gonna lie, Lana's still hot!
I would've picked her over Zelda lol.
More like 4 years.... lol
Im guessing they couldn't have any human v. human fighting action on the show, for whatever reason, and changed the enemies from people to monsters.
A cartoon so hilariously bad that I decided to take some inspiration from it.
So bad it's fantastic
I remember the magazine but I don't remember anything about captain N 😕
It was definitely a staple of my childhood years
@@GamerThumbTV it came out in 89 right? Because I can't remember it at all and I'm 36 but I most likely didn't see everything when I I was a child and it looked like it was great for it's time.
@@TheKingroro 1989-1991. It was on around the same time as the Mario and Zelda cartoons.
Maybe universal should have sued doc because that donkey Kong is closer to king long

The Warp Zone leading to KongoLand? You must be....a Game Master.
@@GamerThumbTV no no the one to Kong Land is in Taurian, the one that leads to Videoland is in Norfair
I was under the impression that one led to Mortal Kombat Land.
@@GamerThumbTV thats the orther Nofair one im talking about the one after Ridley not near the elevator
For all this show's faults - and they are many - the writing is no worse than any of the other shows at the time; it's no worse than the writing you got in some of the later episodes of The Real Ghostbusters (in which Q5 made Slimer the main star, softened Janine for the worst, and demoted Winston into being "the driver" of the team), and it's certainly no worse than the writing you were getting on Super Mario Bros., or a bit while later, The Legend of Zelda; it was standard 1980's kids fare: there was slapstick physical humour, there were montages with songs (Real Ghostbusters had those all over the place, and so did ThunderCats; it was a thing), and unnecessary moralising, because knowing is half the battle, learning and growing, all that jazz.
That’s not donkey kong that’s strate up King Kong
When is the assassins creed new timeline going to be?
Once it's ready. I don't have a specific date to share just yet.
@@GamerThumbTV cool. What’s the first part of the new legend of Zelda timeline going to cover?
@@caseysinskey1294 The origin of everything, all the way through the establishment of Hyrule. Went super detailed with it
@@GamerThumbTV Awesome! I can’t wait to see the it when it comes out.
yeah i wanst a big fan of Simon hes supost to be brave, fealess, bring fear to all his enemies not a ego centric douche, why is king hippo on the badguys side hes not evil most the boxers in punch out are just average people (before wii) and dont even get me started on Alucard, pit and megaman.
and how come characters like mario not here in the show but Donkey Kong is
Mario not being here probably had more to do with Mario having his own show at the time.
that wasn’t alucard, that was just kid dracula (from the gameboy game) going through puberty!
Goddamn, I hated Captain N so much as a kid. I HATED SO MUCH.
