Just a Thought! You could take the mouthpiece by a jewelry shop or a coin dealer and have them test the mouthpiece to determine the material it is made of.
I got this mouthpiece a few days ago, and I really like it, although I'm a beginner sax player and my experience is quite limited. But I've chemically tested its coating and it is, indeed, silver. UPD: I'm updating my comment two months later, since then I've ordered two more mouthpieces like this and they're really inconsistent in quality. Both of them are going back, but the first one stays with me. I've polished the table and the rails a little to make it seal better. None of them had this stain thing, though. I also got a $20 Yibuy tenor 9 in rose gold, and it's quite nice. The plating doesn't appear to react with any alcali or acid I could find in my household. It might really be gold haha.

I agree with your closing comments. I have 5 metal mouthpieces I’ve been playing since the 70’s. Been replacing them with hard rubber. Over the last couple years.
The ligature is worth the price alone. Its very similar in function to the Versa ligature. I upgraded the thumb screw and rods with Rovner hardware. Just fantastic...
That looks like silver tarnish near and around the bite plate (not the ligature stain). My Yanagisawa got shipped with similar tarnish in a few spots due to an overlook by the retailer. At least silver is safe to put in your mouth lmao
Just got this mouthpiece per your recommendation/review. It’s amazing for the price! Using a 1 1/2 reed on it. It definitely has a very bright upper resister. Bright in general, with this reed. I’ll try something harder soon. They might have learned from their mistake and now shipped it with the ligature over the plastic; no black stain. And it’s a beautiful looking mpiece too. My first metal mp. Thanks for review!
Purchased the #6 of this same MP with a 'gold' colored finish and it is the best Ive ever used (50+ years). I had facial paralysis and spent weeks getting my embouchere back. All I did was polish the MP and with no other adjustments it is my all time favorite. For the price of a ligature I have a MP that suits my needs better than some Ive spent $300+ for without lig. Very pleased.. I am using the D'Addario VENN polymer fiber reeds. Really has changed my game and saved lots of $$$$$ ... Great videos.. bought a #8 and man does it rip compared to my tone edge. Little harder to control for me, but 10 months into sax, so not sure if that's just me, or if mouthpiece is flawed. I know I am;) Thanks Sir!
I have the same piece. I used white vinegar with baking soda to remove the stain. The ligature is useless because it keeps stretching. I think it is leather. However it is a great player as you demonstrated. I use it with electric groups in small venues where I play with no microphone because it is a brighter sound. I have the other 2 mouthpieces you also have, a 7 and and a 9. These numbers are actually closer to a 5 and a 7. The silver is also smaller than a 9, maybe a 7 ,using Link measurements. The low end bias you mentioned is more pronounced on the gold pieces. I used some 600 grit wet/dry on a plate of glass and flattened the tables and that helped very much. The metal ligatures that came with the gold pieces also stretch. But they sound good and play good.
One of the best sounding mouthpieces yet. I'm a little surprised at the finish on it. It's really a negative in that department. Still, the sound speaks for the piece! Thanks for the demonstration
Good Sir, very nice as usual. I've had good luck using Bacardi 151 as a general disinfectant, Further, a mouthful forcefully discharged through the mpc not only kllls germs but is a real crowd pleaser when ignited with a small butane torch. Rock on.

I've been living in China for quite a long time now and had a chance to try some of these cheap mouthpieces. They can be roughly devided to those, that are just copy pasted from the famous western models or to those that still copy the design, but add a little of their own style+ high precision making. They are almost all made to be played easy for the amators, taking into consideration the fact, that the majority of hobby sax players in China are old people.
@@Sirvalorsax To check the info I'll need the information in Chinese, cause the English name of the brand "yibuy" or whatever it is, might be completely different from the Chinese one. If there are any Chinese characters on the box, you can send me a photo and I'll try to check that for you. But, as you rightly mentioned, this might just be a mouthpiece blank, which was then changed a bit.
