So you guys are misinterpreting. The song is about a woman who broke his heart and is trying to get back with him. However he is now with someone new who truly loves him. He is telling his former lover that I have moved on because I love some one new, however we could still be friends.
As Juan Gabriel said in the song, his new love taught him to forgive and forget. Prompting her former partner not to hurt herself as much as him, and to move on whether she wants to be friends or not. Currently Juan Gabriel is no longer with us, he passed away in 2016. And believe me, Juan Gabriel continues to be heard until now, perhaps not in North America, but throughout South America. A song that I recommend from him is "Hasta que te conocí" live. At that time he was young and with a voice in all its splendor.

When he says “how can I tell her if I love you “ he means that he is being honest telling her that he doesn’t love you anymore, instead he lover her, so let’s be friends and don’t hurt us anymore
Im no expert but this sounds like he was in love, then felt betrayed, then found god, the true divine and honest love, he even does the persignation sign. He is even wearing american preaching clothes, white suit, and all that. I think he sways in and out of that theme in this song.

def misinterpreted but i cant blame you, he dedicated this song to his ex, she left, he found someone new, hes falling for someone new, hes apologizing for telling her goodbye, he was still in love with the ex, and the new girl asks if he still is, in which he says no.... he loves his new girl, and hes forgotten his ex. telling her not to cling unto him, because its impossible, hes moved on. his new girl taught him how to forget and forgive. sorry its so long but the words are kinda twisted in translation. it is def story telling, he was stitll in love with his ex while he was with his new partner, eventually he learned to move on and forget and telling his ex they can be friends.
