I like movies with ballet to like Black Swan. I never done ballet professionally mostly classes here and there but I always think of it as a beautiful sport but it is also has this dark side I am glad you like it looks intresting and for people who say Teri was more carefree in Rosemary’s baby Terri could have been putting a act in the moment it can happen. It intresting seeing the differences and similiarites between Guy and Terri wanting fame and fortune and Terri not fully willing to cross that line
I thought the Devil in Rosemary's Baby looked more scary and intimidating. Then the devil in 7A. Also check out Suspiria. It's supposed to be based on Suspiria de Profundis by Thomas De Quincey.
Yeah i agree about the devil in RB. Though the bejeweled one here was unique and that scene at the end when she remembers it with all those teeth was very freaky.
I just found your RUclips channel because I watched this movie and I was curious to know more about it. I actually enjoyed it as well and agree pretty much with your entire review. Someone else mentioned the devil in this movie was not as scary as in Rosemarys baby. I agree that's part of the reason. The rape scene was not as frightening. It felt like a lot of CGI. But otherwise I love the performances and it was enjoyable. Thank you!
I didn’t know anything about the backstory of this movie until I watched your video. I saw it on my stream service, and was curious about it. I thought it kind of looked a bit like rosemary‘s baby. I think the thing that made rosemary‘s baby such a powerful movie was the soundtrack. The music and the sound overlays were so good and so scary. I am anxious to see what the sound is like in this prequel. This is my first time checking out your channel… I’ll be back for more! 😉😉
If you want to watch Julia Garner at her best then you really need to watch Ozark. That show is amazing and also Laura Linney and Jason Bateman are brilliant! I did not enjoy her performance here as much. I still have not found anything better to watch on Netflix!
For me, the film didn't really work. Though I appreciate your commentary and I think you made some good points. I think the film would have actually been stronger if they had played up the "Pro-Choice" elements and made the film revolve more around Terry's ability to control her own body. Abortion was illegal in New York in 1965. While this is featured in the film, it's subtle and not really addressed head on.. I was actually hoping that film would revolve more around Mrs. Gardenia. I feel there was much more story possibilities with her character. How did she become involved with the coven? What led to her change of heart? Why did the Coven murder Mrs. Gardenia? Did she know too much? Was the Coven at risk of exposure? I think it was a huge missed opportunity. In both the film and the novel, there are so many cryptic clues suggesting what occurred. That would have made a great story.
Thanks for sharing! And Mrs. Gardenia definitely is a missed opportunity. What little we see in Rosemary's Baby had me so curious about her! Maybe we need another prequel all about her lol.
You got the review down on point. In Rosemary's baby, Terry was a drug addict, and they never mentioned she was a dancer. I did love that Terry was a dancer. It was a great movie, and I agree it should have been showing in Theatres!
I'm glad you liked it! I thought having her get hooked on the pain pills was a good way to show the start of her drug addiction. Even if her addiction wasn't as bad as she made it seem when talking to Rosemary in RB.
One unusual note as to the film presentation : during the Satan sex scene there are close ups of the Devil's reptilian eyes. Originally filmed and screened when the film was first released were one or two shots of the baby Adrian's devil eyes. However, projectionists and local film distributors felt audience reaction was such that the shots of the baby's eyes were deleted. I saw the film within it's first week of release and l recall them being present. I have no idea if they have ever been restored or if Paramount still retains the footage or negative.
It would be interesting to see that version, but I also love that we aren't shown. Mia Farrow's reaction to what the audience doesn't see is just perfect!
Huge Rosemary's Baby fan & liked this movie a lot, too, and I am also sorry it wasn't released in theaters. Don't agree with you about Dianne Wiest tho...she was phenomenal. Check out all her work...
Glad you liked it! I only know Weist from Edward Scissorhands which she's great in. Maybe I was comparing her too much to Ruth Gordon and it got in my way.
Terry's character in Rosemary's baby doesn't line up at all with Apartment 7a Terry at all. They're totally different characters. I was shocked how the writers literally ignored or rewrote Terry. She wasn't even a dancer in the original. She would have definitely mentioned it in her conversation with Mia Farrow! Totally different energy and character. Rewatch that scene and you'll see immediately. Unbelievable! Very poor writing
Yeah that scene in the original movie Terry seemed happy and carefree so I agree she seemed very different. I guess i didn't mind the liberties they took though.
Yes! It's bothering me that they camioed rosemary but neither of them had even the same.colored clothes on from the original nir do they meet. And at the end when Terry jumps out the window the castavetts are inside their apartment but in rosemarys baby they are returning from a night out and meet rosemary then....
@@WhytheBookWins Which shows you're not truly a fan of the lore and care about consistency. That would RUIN me even enjoying this. They basically pulled a First Omen here, prequel in "The Omen" series, with that movie not only changed Damien's mother being the jackal to the father but gave him a twin sister who would have no role or mention in the sequels. Genius. If you're gonna do a prequel either do it right or not at all and make sure it's a story worth compelling to the lore and not some filler/rehash nonsense. -_-
@@Stabbs1313Yep, and from the argument in their apartment, later on, it's clear that they didn't know until they were walking home and saw her. Rosemary was overhearing them through the wall, after all. It really doesn't track.
