People have died in tar pits. Also ancient Hunter skeletons have been found in them. A tar pit sink would probably be quite slow. And if thick, and deep? Probably be a lot worse then any quicksand. A nice long time to contemplate the black sticky end. Imagine also your lungs filling with that. Quite harrowing.
