I do get a little shook up when a client starts asking if it’s going to take much longer while I’m in the middle of their set. I’m happy to glance at the clock at that point and politely tell them that I’m not charging them by the hour. My full sets with art usually take under 2 hours unless they have asked for super detailed work (we are talking landscapes or portrait art here) and I let them know prior to the service that it may take longer. In my policies, there is a mutual agreement that we will respect each other’s time, religious and political beliefs. We love to keep conversation light and fun here and I want to believe that this neutrality is what keeps people coming back. I’ve had my share of “chair hoppers” come through as well. Some people are simply not a good fit. And as Tracey has mentioned in the past, not all money is good money.
You make an excellent point with your policies and keeping conversation light! It's so easy for someone to be offended about those things, that it's easier to avoid the potential pitfalls by steering clear altogether. I doubt most go to the salon expecting to be philosophically challenged or get political commentary, for example. I would also avoid passing on info about anyone, even if it's innocuous, and even in an anonymous way. People always wonder if you will similarly talk about them.
To be honest I see some nail techs post pics of their nails where I wonder how the heck people keep going back to them. Jaggedly cuticles, uneven nails, _bleeding_ cuticles (!!!). It just looks like they barely even tried? Sometimes I wonder if they hear “it doesn’t have to be perfect” and take it too far. And I’m talking about people who are into Young Nails, not just random techs on Insta or something.
Like I would be mortified if I cut someone while doing their nails - I know it happens, but some people post red/bleeding cuticles on their clients like it’s totally normal?? Make it make sense.
I see what you do and, even if they didn't cause the damage, at the very least, seeing wounded skin distracts from seeing the nail work. Of course, it makes you question if the nail tech caused the injuries. I, too, don't understand why they would choose those to post. I assume they don't have enough better photos to post, or they are not concerned about the wounds because their ineptitude is so common for them it has become normalized?
Most of the time for me is speed ...a lot of nail techs think u can take 5 hrs on a set and then a certain amount of time on pedicure and do just as good as a regular nail salon or a little bit better they may for the most part won't come back
IT SHOULDNT HAVE MATTERED HOW U WERE DRESSED, OR WHAT U LOOKED LIKE U SHOULD HAVE GOT THE SAME RESPECT / ATTENTION AS EVERYONE ELSE..THAT WAS JUST WRNG V I HATE WHEN PPL ARE LIKE THAT ..AND IT TOOK HIM TO KNOW U WERE A MAN WITH CASH FOR HIM TO CHANGE HIS ADDITUDE ..SMH THAT'S SAD Thank y'all sooo much Im starting my nail journey and y'all have helped me soo much
My nail technician I felt is constantly either tired or distracted, not really engaged. Maybe its because I don't go every week, just like once a month? Also, not dressed up. Last time she removed my gel polish , I asked her to be careful not to damage the bed nail, but it meant she left base coat residue. The thumb had an acrylic tip, and she left some behind, which means I have to wait for it to grow out to get a decent manicure. I don't know if this is what should have happened.
I have a client that I’ve been doing for years and has canceled a few times and she knows my policy about paying the full price for last minute cancellation, so she text me said she went somewhere else and payed 10.00 cheaper
Lord every nail salon I went to has never listened. Example I ask for polka dots and they give me flowers, I want the bulk taken down on my dip nails they won’t take it down lumpy and thick as hell. And my nails are short as hell, I always thought the language barrier was the problem but looking back now they didn’t care they wanted me out as fast as possible. But my friends and family always had a good laugh at my nails so that was cool
Years ago I used to see a nail tech ,, she was the moodiest, unpredictable person I’ve ever met !,, you couldn’t tell her things ,, if I said how I wanted my nails shaped I’d get snapped at,, given the side eye ,,, after the last appointment,, I never went back!,,, life is too short to be treated that way when you’re paying good money,,,,
hasn't the pandemic hindered that at all i mean people couldn't go get their nails done and a lot of people just learned to do their own so I would think that would take away from your new clientele and especially if they don't know you and your work: opinion's?
This video was more focused on "non-pandemic" reasons as to why clients may not return. However, the pandemic has definitely affected the nail business. There are many people who have learned to do their own nails and some clients probably didn't come back because of that.

I think moving also impacts that a lot, I've had clients not coming back to me due to my location... It's like starting all over again.

I’m not in the nail industry, but this blessed me!
Totally off topic, but Tracey has such beautiful hair!
I was just noticing the new color!! Looks beautiful!!!

I've had to quit doing my nails with nail products and resort to cornstarch.
