Bro I love your resourcefulness and that you're using some of your old skills with the printing to do things that most people would just break down and spend the cash
It’s really cool how a 3-D printer can help create parts on the go, especially when you’re in places where you can’t get to a marine store. Have you thought about opening an online shop and selling your files for the items you’ve created? That way they might be able to help other sailors.
@ that would be awesome! Definitely would help you bring in some extra income as you co to use on your travels. Or even offer a service to create things for other sailors. What do you create the product for them or just create the file.
Jan 1, 2025. Good morning from Center Point Texas, love the printer stuff that you are doing, looks like you got it all going your way. Love these videos.
Just seen this video pop up and subscribed after I watched but mad props to living ya dream at young age! And my reason for commenting is all these prints you are coming up with why don't you sell the files on a website and tag it in description. If I owned a boat (hope to soon) I know I would pay reasonable price instead of designing it !! Just a idea could be easy income
Looks like you were far from shore! Have you thought of starting to sell those little cable holders to other boat owners? Seems like a pretty good cable management solution! 👍🏻
Very kewl 3D printing ! Let me know if you want to sell some of your line holders(forgot what you called them), I’d love to purchase some for my Cape Dory!
Thanks! I have had a lot of interest in the design but unfortunately I dont have a great way to print and ship them from the boat. Once I have the design finalized however I will post the file for free so others can have it printed.
Love this thanks for sharing. I was seriously considering the same Bamboo machine. Two questions: 1. What power consumption are you seeing? 2. How are you dealing with UV resistant material 3D print material, OR do you just figure that you can easily output another when damage is prevalent?
I noticed my power draw was around 100W one time when it was running but not sure how precise that is. I'm currently using PETG for any exterior parts. I've used them outdoors before and they held up well but time will tell if they can handle the direct sun all day out here. If not like you said I can always print a replacement if need be and coat with a UV spray
Hey Damon, we just sailed from Key West to Marathon today in my friend's Hunter 41. We're anchored at Boot key near the bridge and we're sailing to Rodrigez key tomorrow. Whereabout are you moored? It'd be cool to see you and say hi 😊
A lot of libraries nowadays have 3d printers. They'll let you bring in the file and usually for a little over the material cost they will print a part for you. That or there are a lot of people on sites like Etsy that have 3d printers and will print custom files for folks. If I had a better space to make larger batches of them I'd do it myself
How about a whole printed plate that would have the pucks printed into it. It would give you more surface to hot glue or marine adhesive so you wont have holes.
Not a bad idea, it would definitely help with adhesion but one of the challenges I wanted to tackle was keeping it small and sleek. It takes a little longer to get it perfect but the challenge is the fun part
Makes sense. I did try and design that section of the adapter thinner so the hose clamp would still flex it a bit but I'll go ahead and add some silicone on aswell
I guess you're aching for more solar panels. Will Prouse proved that flexible panels are a disaster for copper traces breaking. A good method is stowable squarish panels that can be stored in a bin below deck, but hoisted onto quick mounts and rapidly connect to soldered MC,4 connectors on deck. It's ok to mix different shapes, brands, and wattages if their unloaded voltage is similar. I'd stay away from long skinny panels. I think you've only been through one big storm. Boats sometimes have windmills. They are sensitive to too fast speed and too slow speed. Don't forget that CB radio. You can fetch a lot of travel info with it. It can't be out in the spray. If you have a sealed LED light on a cable, you can attract fish for netting and you can check the bottom for coral or granite.
Yes I definitely could use a bit more solar power. I have started looking into what it would take to build a larger solar arch to fit a couple more panels but I think that will have to be a project for a future date. I've got enough to get by for now if I conserve power a bit more
@@damonrust You don't build an arch. You buy a second hand one from one of the boat dismantlers up near St Petersburg. I have an address on my bronze propeller box. The same for anything major like a prop shaft or radio. Mine didn't come from the RUclips guys, but a smaller place.
Haha. Jeffrey is right here, I made sure to post it once I got back. But if you want to steal it for a week and finish all the projects for me I can leave town again lol
I really enjoy your videos. Litte improvement proposal. How about looking into the camera lense and not onto the screen ;-) it makes a huge difference, looking at the audience. I noticed this in all your videos.
I understand you’re in a confined windy space however, can you place the camera a little further away from you when possible?… I just feel like I’m right in your face all the time..
3D printing your own parts is crazy creative 🤯👏🏾
Bro I love your resourcefulness and that you're using some of your old skills with the printing to do things that most people would just break down and spend the cash
It clicked one day my old skills might be useful here too and so far like you said having the printer onboard has saved some money!
Easy solution….pop a couple of those line holders on the mail…LOL..I’d gladly pay for them!
Cheers Mate!

It has been very handy so far and I would like to get a few of my files posted online here soon for others once I get them tweaked a bit more
@ that would be awesome! Definitely would help you bring in some extra income as you co to use on your travels. Or even offer a service to create things for other sailors. What do you create the product for them or just create the file.
I had thought about that as well, especially since it can also be done remotely plus I enjoy the design side too so even better
It’s great to see a young man with a mission and goals! Keep going and learning and sharing! Best wishes for a great 2025!

Thank you!
Smart kid, that's awesome. Good luck to you brother
Thanks!
What a cool video! I really appreciate you sharing it!
Thanks!
You make my day. Hope you always follow your dream.
Thanks!

Happy New Year!
Great toy! You're are very creative with the printer.
Thanks! Its been pretty handy so far
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Happy New Year!
I like your 3D prints. Happy New Year. God Bless.
Thank you, Happy New Year
Great Video as always. Hope you had great Holidays.
Thanks Sunny, Happy New Year
That is amazing work with the 3D printing. Have a wonderful 2025🎉
Thanks Mark! Happy New Year
The 3D stuff is so great! Must for car collectors too.
They are pretty amazing machines, you can make just about anything for just about anything!
Happy new years. Good job with getting things secure on your boat.
You and Damon both add an S to the end of Happy New Year. Not that there is anything wrong with that lol
Thanks!
Great job with the 3D printer! That thing has come in handy. 👍
It sure has!
Great ideas. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you!
Thanks! Happy New Year
Great use of the 3D printer, Keep making parts for your boat.
Thanks, I've been making all sorts of parts so far. Pretty handy tool
Hey Cap D! Love the puck design. 👍👍
Thanks Terry!

Happy New Year Damon! Won't be long now and you'll be on your way. Stay safe out there...
Thanks Bill! Happy New Year
Just found this channel and I am very impressed with the tasks you are doing. Very interesting. You have some good practical skills. James.
Thanks James!
Salt water n lithium equals , one big bomb .
Luckily my batteries are AGM and I caught it soon enough they only got a few drops on them. But that could have been bad if not caught
Great job Damon, best wishes for the new year!
Thanks, Happy New Year
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Great vid man! ❤
Happy New Year!
Lets talk about your trip planning, route and what's your plans when you get there. Keep going!
Good idea, I'll have to include more details in an upcoming video
Happy New Year!

If you could print a spot for the elastic knot that would be really slick.
Or use big o rings instead of elastic
Good idea, I tried this on one and it led me to another idea that I think will work
Hope you have a GREAT New Year 2025!
You too!

Hot glue will eventually fail, use a 3M or DuPont silicone and hot glue as a third hand whilst the silicone sets
It did after a week so I have just put out a couple with silicone instead and we will see how they hold up

I'm actually moored over by big pine key so sounds like you just passed by.
How do I get some of those pucks Damon, willing to pay for them. Great idea, you’re a wizard, incredibly gifted.
I'm still fine tuning the design a bit but I'll try to post the file for free once I'm happy with it
@ that is above my knowledge. What would I do take the file to a plastic fabricator ?
A lot of libraries nowadays have 3d printers. They'll let you bring in the file and usually for a little over the material cost they will print a part for you. Don't hose claim that new part, use caulking to hold it. Pull it off, put caulking around the boat tube, then push that part back on.
Out of curiosity why would the caulking be preferred over a hose clamp?
@@damonrust the part is hard, not soft like a hose. Clamps are for soft material. The caulking will hold it in place and keep it water tight.
Makes sense. I did try and design that section of the adapter thinner so the hose clamp would still flex it a bit but I'll go ahead and add some silicone on aswell

Solars? You want 50 watts or 100 watts but squarish ones. MC 4 connectors take a red or black No. 10 wire, soldered and greased.
What do you do with your boat when you fly out?!
I just locked her up and made sure the bilge pumps were clean and running. Left it on the diy mooring here and she held well.
@@damonrust that's very cool and also very brave. I'm afraid to leave my boat overnight I hate doing it.
It definitely made me nervous but she has been through worse with me onboard so I figured it would be ok for a week
Can I steal your boat when you fly out? lol
He is no dummy. He is back on board when the video airs. And believe me, there are eyes looking from the neighboring boats.
Haha. Jeffrey is right here, I made sure to post it once I got back. But if you want to steal it for a week and finish all the projects for me I can leave town again lol
@@damonrust Also not very easy to hide a slow moving 34’ sailboat with a 50’ tall mast.
What cad program are you using?
I'm using the free version of Fusion 360
@ thank you yeah I figured it out. I went back a couple of videos ago and you mentioned it when you were sick.
