I grew up on these beautiful hymns. Sang with an amateur choir at rural mass in Ireland as a child. Coming back to them at 40. They do something to me.
Absolutely magnificent! This beautiful traditional sacred hymn sung so reverently with grace & gravitas has moved me to tears! Fantastic job well done!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻☘️☘️
This beautiful hymn was the standard 'First Communion Hymn" for all children when I grew up. I remember learning it at school before my first communion. Lovely memories.
My father taught this to me and my son two days before he passed away...13 yrs, the pain within is still fresh but the song brings a smile on my face knowing God's wonderful plan to have this song go down three generations ....
Please God I will go to mass next Sunday. Healing is beginning to cleanse my soul. I bear no ill will to any person who has hurt the Holy body of Godson.
Fantastic hymn used to sing it every week at end of Life Boys parade night (3rd Bearsden Coy.) Glasgow Church of Scotland in 1957.Now an Anglican in Northumberland.
From The Westminster Hymnal 1912, edited by Sir Richard R Terry, organist at Westminster Cathedral. The words are magnificent and the tune is bound up with the pious associations of the Faithful.
English is my second language only , and i am not a latin catholic but a syro malabar catholic, recently when i attended a english mass in Bangalore's one of the church i caught in this hymn...

Aside from the sentimental attachments to this hymn, it is one (Anima Christi) recommended by the Ritual of Exorcism, an extension of the Our Father "Deliver Us From evil". To Invoke the name of Jesus, and His Precious Blood (and also his Most Holy Mother), are the most powerful against the power of the evil one.
AAAAHHH!!GREAT CHILDHOOD MEMORIES INDEED!!THANKS FOR THE POSTING.ALWAYS COME AROUND CHRISTMAS TIME END UP LISTENING TO ALL THESE WONDERFUL CHILDHOOD HYMNS.FROM(U.K.).

The wounds in His hands and His feet from the nails, and the weight of His body hanging on the Cross deepening them... the wound in His side caused by the lance of the soldier... the numerous wounds on His torso from the scourging with the cat o' nine tails whips... and all of them reopened when He was stripped of His garment... the wound on His shoulder, where the heavy crossbeam of His Cross dug into, all the way up to Calvary... the bruises on His knees and elbows and nose and chin, each time He fell... the numerous wounds on His face and His scalp from the crown of thorns...

“Hide me in thy wounds”. When I sang this at Mass as a troubled little boy, tears would spring to my eyes; and they still do even now as a 59 yr old.
Best version! My Favorite version!

Love this. My choir sings it frequently -- more often in Latin than English, but it's such a beautiful hymn it works in either!
I remember hearing this but with no instruments during a special event at my church. This song is magical

Hymn can make a fine entertainment.
This song is NOT for your ENTERTAINMENT, it is to give PRAISE to ALMIGHTY GOD.
@@arthurdrollinger6970 You cannot deny the divine privilege of being entertained.
You probably mean "the privilege of being entertained by a hymn inspired by the divine".

I’ve never quite understood the lyric “deep in thy womb Lord hide and shelter me“. Can anyone help?
Deep in Thy wounds, Lord, hide and shelter me, so shall I never, ever part from Thee

I wish Catholics would learn to sing. mass might have more meaning. And I wish that priests would learn to give shorter sermons!
