Have watched a few of these old Code Reds in 2021 and this episode seems to be the best of the bunch. Why? It has just a touch of that wonderfully hammy acting Irwin Allen TV used in the 1960s. And the Richard LaSalle music cues are outstanding.
Texaco used to sell a brand of gasoline called Fire Chief. When they had a sign with the Fire Chief price per gallon, I thought they were giving a discount to fire chiefs- so they can always have a full tank of gas ready to drive to a fire. They also had a price for "Low Lead Fire Chief," which I thought was a lesser discount for small town fire chiefs who lead only a small squad. I had no idea what a sky chief was.
I don't get how this lasted only one year? It was like Emergency but emphasis on firefighters. You had the "Master of Disaster" film maker Irwin Allen as producer, and not forgetting the talented Lorne Greene.
Well, it was probably really expensive to produce, and it was competing in the Sunday 7:00 PM time slot against the far higher rated and cheaper 60 Minutes. Against that kind of competition, any show did not have much of a chance.
Mario Santos I was 6 years old when Emergency came on the air and my grandfather was a volly with the town department. So riding in the town trucks, going to fires, hearing the fire phone ring, watching every cop, fire show at the time like SWAT, 240-Robert, Rescue 77, Code R, CHiPs, Code Red, Kojak, Columbo, Dragnet. I ate it all up. I had a model Ford Bronco and painted it black and white just like on 240-Robert. Those were the days.
18dmedic I know brother, I also had a Ford bronco, loved that rig, I couldn't get enough of these shows, it inspired me to be a police officer to this day. They just don't make television series like those classics anymore. Be safe brother .
The Opening Scene - The Outside Of The Building Was The Same Building Used In Episodes OF: Wonder Woman, Carter Country, Dukes Of Hazzard, The Hardy Boys / Nancy Drew Mysteries & numerous other TV shows
I became a firefighter/paramedic at the age of 16. I watch Emergency and Code Red. My dad was a fire chief for Potter vol fire dept.in Yates County New York. I miss being a paramedic firefighter.
Roy and John and a paramedic trainee went after a purse snatcher one time after a woman flagged them down. But I don't think they would have ever gone after someone like this. They would have gone to the police. That show was a whole lot more realistic in that respect. What ever happened to Andrew Stephens?
I Remember This Episode I Didn't Have Dinner That Night Cause I Made A Fool Of Marilyn Ehli,I Would Have Told Bob Storem My Friend Then.In December 1981.
I know this show is supposed to be dramatic but I can't help laughing at it. The evil fireworks smuggler who becomes a kidnapper to protect his racket... It is just so ludicrously overblown that it's actually hilarious.
EMERGENCY! was on NBC TV for six seasons. CODE RED was only on ABC for one season before being cancelled. Guess the public knew which one was the better show. I think they should do a updated version of EMERGENCY! for the 21st century. It would be interesting to compare the equipment, and procedures of the original with today's.
The alarm changed. They used the famous one into the 90's. No more writing down the location of the call. ruclips.net/video/M5DQ5JpvVqg/видео.html (tour of LACoFD Station 127, which "played" Station 51). It's been awhile since that was posted, and I can't remember what was in it. Probably the one big thing is the paramedics working on the basis of standing protocol in most circumstances rather then calling in for orders. NBC had a short lived show called _Trauma_ about 2009 set in San Francisco and centered upon EMS. Kevin Tigh even had a small part in the show. But I guess EMS people hated it. If you see it, you'll know why. _Rescue 8_ , a show about 2 LACoFD rescue men from 1958, is on YT now,.
I like this TV show in general, but this episode is so overblown it's hilarious. I mean, a fireworks pusher in schools? LOL! Here in NC, fireworks a technically "illegal", but the law is never enforced. I live only a few miles from the SC state line and fireworks are legal there. I'm 54 and my family and friends shot them when I was a kid, I did so with my kids, and when my granddaughters get old enough, I will shoot fireworks with them. At the stores across the state line, one has to be over 18. We always made sure there was adult supervision. You also have to use common sense, which none of the actors in this episode did. Accidents almost never happen. Not saying that accidents don't happen, but they rarely do. I can appreciate how this episode brought out some of the dangers of being irresponsible. But treating fireworks as if it were an illicit drug and that the moment one who isn't a pro shoots one off, they will blow their hands off and buildings will go up in flames is straight up phobic and totally irrational. It's hard to take such an overly dramatic message seriously.
Sam Jones SHOULD have been filming the sequel to "Flash Gordon" at this time instead of playing the world's biggest dork on this lame-ass show. Flash Jump!
This takes me back to my childhood. Whoever post this up, thanks. RIP Adam Rich, Julie Adams and Lorne Greene.
One of my favorite shows.
This series needs to be on dvds if it can released.
And digital media too!
It sure does!

Stan's lucky he wasn't blinded like Jimmy in "Follow My Leader."
Back in the day, those Lincolns were a favored car of the Mafia. There was plenty of trunk space to store a dead body.
Thanks for posting this iam loving it on aug 2 2020
That siren on the chief's car sounds exactly like the one on the intro to Hill Street Blues
There were only 19 episodes produced!
Wish there were more full shows ...
I saw the station that was used for the show
Great show

A seasoned fire chief extinguishes a burning sparkler by dropping it on the grass and stepping on it with his slipper?
He is wearing magic fire chief slippers. And if that kid runs away from the chief one more time....I can about tell you where the magic will wind up.
I was always leery of sparklers.
This show must have aired on a cable only channel cause I don't remember it being on TV back then.
Sunday nights at 7pm on ABC.
1981-82 United States TV season.
Interesting the brief snippet of real life news on the subject at the end.

Does anyone have the episode where one of the firemen died
An _Emergency!_ plot written by the _CHiPs_ staff? *Anyone* could think of that.
what was the episode where the team fought fires a power station
I think it's called 'Trapped by Time'.
Jason Pierre Paul WHY didn't you listen?
What network aired the reruns of this show?
New York Racing Fan CODE RED’s actual run was on ABC, and the USA Network ran the reruns.
7:45 was that faulty fireworks, no sparks were shown hitting it?
They'll take Danny away and put him in reform school.

The funniest thing is Adam Rich's miserable acting.

A spin off from Emergency tv show

Mmmm I smell cheesy TV
The only thing missing is the Superfriends giving a lecture about the dangers of...of everything!
Sam Jones SHOULD have been filming the sequel to "Flash Gordon" at this time instead of playing the world's biggest dork on this lame-ass show. Flash Jump!
If Sam Jones is in a tv series, it's a 1 and done.
