I would have some aluminum leader in my inventory with some A and B fittings along with PVC square to round fittings to make for a nice transition appearance when piping to the underground. It lends to a very professional look. Keep up the good, honest work you do.
"I hope you enjoyed this video." I always enjoy watching your videos. I'm still trying to figure out why I'm so fascinated watching these. 🤔
Thank you Adam! I really try to make this a coherent story with a problem, solutions, and the process we go through installing the solution. I try very hard to make every second of the video cover educational, or entertaining content and no fluff. I also try to demonstrate the solutions working after installation in the rain and wrap up the video with important points. I'm glad you are enjoying my stuff! - Shwan
Drainage systems with little fall is right in your area of specialty! Great job, looks great...
Tristar Diggin'
Sam
Thank you Sam!
Wow they completely transformed that front yard from the time you finished work to the time you went back during rain. Good stuff
👍🏻 you leave customers high and dry in a good way! 😂
Hahah great point!
IVE COME BACK TO REWATCH A BUYNCH OF VIDEOS .. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR WORK!!
A very good Monday morning to you all in the USA from Wellington Somerset in the uk
👍
Great video! Today I just installed a sump pump that catches a downspout that was causing my garage to get flooded. Without your videos I don't think I would have had the confidence to do it. Thank you!!!
That's awesome news Scott! Niice work!
Shawn will always tell you, deal with the outside water/problem first before it gets into the building .. is the outside graded correctly ?
I really love the closing monologue format, that really wraps everything up perfectly with a nice bow.👌
Thank you! After quoting, installing, filming, editing, thinking about the job there was always extra info I wanted to mention. I think this studio format is pretty cool, even though it was a pain to build and takes up a whole room. I'm glad you like it. 👍
I must say another job well done it's good to see the gang back at it, keep up the good work and shout to The main man Ronald and Jeremy.
Those gutter guys were awesome. I've never seen a gutter machine setup before. 👍
Love the 360 cam
Thank you! I like it too but a lot of people hate it and let me know. Lol
@@GCFD i got an insta 360 go 2, but the audio is trash. I would guess u use the 1 inch. btw it looks sweet when u put it in the chute or the drum
results with good looks is always preferred. The way things work shouldn't suffer just to make it look good, but making it as look as good as possible is always gonna be appreciated by the customer.
That turned out pretty good. You can't keep everybody happy but you did the right thing by talking to them instead of texting and after that they liked it. Yeah it turned out all right. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦
What a cute blue house. Well done Shawn and crew
My aunt had something similar done with her place, we ended up making a raised flower bed to the sidewalk using 4x4 posts to hide the pipe
Had no idea that they formed the gutters on the go that’s really interesting
Seamless gutters.
Where I live, in Australia, it isn't. We use sections that are put together, I think pop-riveted?
I'd say in the US there'd be plenty of pre-made guttering too
Looks good man. Nice to see one of your jobs again. Formally Andy Rich
👍 Andy
Great video! The gutter guys were next level too! 😀
Ronald is a GREAT guy to have on your team!
👍👍
I just found your channel in the laat couple months and have been bingewatching. You really didnt change much but the camera quality from the beginning to now. Very cool that you found your niche. I'm learning so much from watching you.
Thank you Lufia! I first put my stuff up as an afterthought, and just to show potential customers. Then people started watching my stuff and I felt like I needed to step up the quality. This doesn't come naturally to me, so it's been a long journey. I'm glad you're enjoying the channel! - Shawn
@ Lufia Yeah Great channel & content, No excessive music intro/ outro like some do, which is just annoying to me in general, Nothing but Quality here, ive offered my employment to shawn in the past, if it wasn't for my bad back & living in Texas of course
Love the laziness of the painter. Don't worry about cutting the small tree down that's right next to the foundation, just paint it to match the house!
Haha!
A happy customer with communication and understanding I like that the gutter guy was there so the job was to your satisfaction ,it makes a difference. Nice professional work as always, thanks for sharing.
Love that shot down the length of the trencher.
Much like your company, All pro gutters professional and outstanding work! I had the pleasure of working with Greg and Travis at KFD, two great guys!
Sean, I think Hello Frog needs to be your mascot. He would of course be in one of your T-shirts. He would advertise gate City foundation and drainage. And then you could have some cast in resin and be able to hand homeowners one if they didn't like the way The pipes or other drainage features look.😂 Great video. Look forward to more as always.
Haha Great idea Robert! That would be funny.
Always enjoy your videos and conclusions
Thank you Erik 👍
I can’t believe you didn’t come across a cool bug or worm. The gardens did look nice for being so new. You done well again sir.
I know, right?
*See Shawn at the supermarket...*
"Oh hey, Ive see your videos on RUclips! Theyre great! Could I get a quick selfie?"
"This is Shawn with Gate City Foundation Drainage. We are back out here at the market, and just met a fan who has seen our videos. Gonna recommend we add some dirt to shed this unwanted awkward conversation. We're also gonna tie this downspout to some schedule 40 as a getaway. This will be one of our most interesting jobs."
Hahah! I've only been recognized twice in public. It was a quick hello, love your videos (very cool though). I'll keep an eye out at the market dabmane 👍
Hey Shawn, the landscaping the homeowner did make the house look so nice. You guys did a good job too, that includes the gutter guy. It was good to see Ronald again, it's been a while.
Thank you Roy! They did a great job with those beds and decorations.
Ronald's a real MVP.
Yes, the owners did a great job.
Looks good. I like that the gutter guys added downspouts in the front.
More downspouts means more routes for water to drain the gutters during heavy rains. 👍
The homeowner even painted the tree blue!! @8:33 lol🤣
I think that 'They decided for our option' is better than 'they went for it'!!
👍
Such a cute house. The owners have invested in peace of mind with these improvements.
For sure. It's important to get things corrected so you can sleep at night.
The drone shot really showed how good the gutter guys work was done! Nice work on figuring out the amount of fall needed to drain all of that rain water! I remember that house 🏡
That is a cute little house.
Communication is the most important part of a job, tbh. Letting people know why you're doing something a certain way helps them understand the problem solving
That's right Ry! I could tell by their text they weren't happy so I called them right back to explain things. Regardless of how they felt about my explanation, the pipes were pouring out water right then, so whatever I was saying was clearly correct. I also assured them that I could bring in some more dirt if needed after the pipes settled in place. They were happy with that.
Your question on looks vs. results in the description... definitely results. Looks are nice to have, but are secondary and thus sometimes must be put aside.
Sometimes you gotta do something ugly to make something work, but that's OK.
If you need a bit of extra fall, then having the pipe poke up out of the ground a little bit (in an area where it is not a tripping hazard or liable to vehicle damage, eg. a garden bed) is fine. Just chuck some treebark mulch chunks, or or equivalent, over it!
(note: I have not watched the video yet as at writing the comment, I just saw the question and thought of an answer, and wanted to get it out before I forget it)
Hello from the Netherlands .
thanks for the video Shawn .
Sincerely, Hollandduck
Way to stand your ground as a contractor. As always, great work.
Thank you! I wanted them to understand the reasoning behind it. I could have buried the pipe, but it wouldn't have worked very well. The fact that it was raining and the pipes were pouring out water didn't hurt either. 👍
nice job. love the short stink pipe on that roof, up here we have two foot stink pipes with extensions (snow)😆
Getting to watch the "gutter guys" was really interesting. Nothing like that here over the pond. We have to use pre-produced lengths and bends.
They are using seamless gutters. They are awesome.
cute little house
For sure. They did an amazing job on that place.
When I was 17 I got 4 internal stitches and 12 external from budget barbed wire. It works 🤣
Wow, I still have some so I should probably remove it. I think the manufactures stopped selling it for residential use with those twists. My city doesn't allow electric dog fence without a six-foot-non-electrified fence perimeter, so those low-hanging barbs are probably banned here for new-residential-fence construction.
It's a fence, it's there to stop people getting in so what's the point of making it easier to jump over 🙄
@@tttt4029 This is America where they must commit the crime before doing all of the time. We also pay taxes to educate children & keep them safe. Now that we live in the age of security cameras there is no need to barbwire the guts of a child to protect less value than injury caused by the unnecessarily-short-violent-fence. Plus the Rabies-Act requires six foot fence for dogs that break-the-skin so barbwire is probably just as hazardous.
I'm curious: why didn't you connect the back downspouts to a drain and link them to pipes leading to the street?
That’s a great looking house, nice work.
Thank you Cali!
Great workmanship.Again the way you run your business and company your values .Very proud fan club keep up the great work and utube Presentations
Kinda amazed you didnt run the rear gutters to the front and tie in the one near the gravel driveway, even if the pipe would have been above ground for the fall.
Fill bucket up with dirt and pack ditch with track. But good video keep it up!
I get what you're saying Evan, but I prefer to have the pipe settle slowly over time so it stays where we placed it. I've tracked over pipe before and it looks great as we are pulling away, but forcing the pipe down like that causes dips and valleys. I always let the pipe settle naturally.
If I had been the customer, I would have shaved semi-circular grooves into each side of the steps to accommodate the drain pipe. After it was painted, it would have looked deliberate.
Nice landscaping.
Great work as always. Could you set a galvanized window well around a gas meter, if the meter was too low for you to build up the grade? Not ideal but then at least you could build up the grade on *most* of the wall.
I had a gutter dumping on to a concrete driveway but the water found its way under a seam, installed a 20' pvc run next to the driveway Thank you for the videos , helped lots
Awesome!
exactly what i needed for this Sunday morning!
Shawn, and to all the guys and gals on the crew WTG great job 👍 I'm more concerned about function rather than looks. Water getting under a home can cause serious problems that I'd rather avoid.
Thank you! The homeowners did a fantastic job making the house look great even with the pipes installed. 👍
You could have just used aluminum downspout elbows on those front downspouts to get around the patio and down to ground level to your pipes. Those to short gutters over the stoop are barely getting any water anyways. That way you could just have a 90* pvc elbow sticking out of the ground just a couple inches.
Nice Job and a good video. I am still amazed by the construction standards in that area.
My house is from 1957. Foundation is 3 feet deep concrete (no bricks). All downspouts are connected to the city sewer system.
Basic building regulations means that all houses are build this way. So we never experience those kinds of water issues.
😳 All I can see is sewage backing up into the gutters and/or rain water backing up into the house due to a blockage!
Gutters shouldn’t be draining into the city sewer. They should have a water drainage system that gutters and runoff flow too. That would overwhelm any city sewer if gutters were ran in the sewer
I see this a lot in comments and I'm sure he means stormwater drainage system and not sewer.
@@GCFD I sure hope so! This is the recipe for a very nasty disaster! 🤢
@@terencemerritt You are quite right. Our previous house that was from the 70's had a separate sewer and rain water drainage system.
6:40 "Them roots is a son of a bitch" 😭😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣 amazing work as usual
Thank you!
Super job and video. Cheers to you. ..
👍👍 Laurie
Great service to come back and validate the solution worked as designed.
Always awesome to have an upload from you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Makes my week
Great video as always. I am glad that they listened to you about how the pipes had to be done. Some people get too caught up on how it looks and do not look at how it is working. I would rather have ugly pipes than water making it into my house.
Love your dedecation to quality and customer satisfaction!
Nice work!
Thank you Tom!
Really enjoyed this Shaun , i like watching your video`s really good on how you explain things about getting water away from the property's 👍
Thank you Taylor!
@4:50 it would have looked better to add and extend the gutter pipe down then add a gutter elbow to wrap around the ledge then finally a straight pvc pipe. Best of both worlds form and function.
Great to see a straight forward drainage video! Great work on a flat lot. It is awesome that you have trustworthy contractors to work with such as the gutter guys!
Thank you Steve!
Great video as always Shawn. 👍. You really never know, how the job/ any job will go, until you break the soil. And when you have very little fall, it adds to the difficulty. Thanks for sharing.
Yep I agree. We really had to mind our fall on this one!
Beautiful job! Love the custom-made gutters and better flow. That's such a cute house and it deserves the best. 👍👍👍
Thank you Sheena! This was a nice house and I'm glad we solved the crawlspace issues. 👍
Again, great job !
Another great job and good customer relations, well done Shaun 👍
Thank you Martin!
@@GCFD 👍
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching and commenting Alexei!
form follows function 😎
Just like in biology!
Great stuff as usual! I love the Carolina Wren at 16:00!
You probably would have done better aesthetically to use the downspout pipe down closer to grade. Using 45s made of the downspout pipe to get around the porch overhang. That large diameter PVC just stands out too much that high above grade. Otherwise looks good to me.
I agree. But it blows out debris and water like mad. 👍
Ĺĺĺò
Great video, good to see the communication with the client. I recently had some concrete poured and I made sure the contractor was paying attention to the grade and the way water should flow away from the house and garage. Love the videos and tips and tricks you share with us :)
Good job
Ronald is a great asset to have, and I hope you can keep him. In some of your past videos is a young brunette woman. Is she family or a hired
employee?
That's Lynn my friend. She's got a background in geophysical engineering.
How can you dehumidify a vented crawlspace? Wouldn't it suck humidity from the outside?
It was doing what it could to dehumidify the air under there.
Looks great but why didn’t you just put the front gutter pointing to the driveway into the pipe?
We definitely could have but would have added to the cost. Pointing it towards the driveway directed that water out of the way.
Cute house, great work with dealing with the gutters properly .. what are gutter guards for snow ?
They are a couple of rows of what looks like spikes along the roof right at the gutter. The idea is it catches and holds the snow/ice and allows it to melt. Otherwise the snow/ice slides down the metal roof and destroys the gutter.
@@GCFD Interesting, very cool thank you
Another great video !
Thank you Troy!
The fall of the pipe on the yard doesn't matter, "provided" that you catch your water high up from the ground... and in a "sealed pipe". My definition of a sealed pipe is when there is no way for the water to get out of the pipe except for the water discharge down low. For example, your city water tower uses the force of gravity to bring water to your home...thru a sealed pipe. One or many water connections up high and one or many water connections down low..."thru a 100% sealed pipe" except for intake water and discharge water. As long as your water is taken up High and it flows in a sealed pipe to down low by gravity...the water will flow thru the any sealed pipe!!!
I'm really curious about something. I've seen other companies fit something directly onto the downspout that is connected directly to the PVC. Some of them even have a cleanout on them. Is there a reason you don't use those? Thanks! I love how helpful your videos are!
I don't use downspout adapters because they seal off the system. Placing the rectangular downspout into a round coupler leaves a space in there. That's enough to access the system with a snake or jetter hose. I talk about it in this video: ruclips.net/video/IDblo3MVRp0/видео.html
@@GCFD Thank you so much for responding! I was coming in here to look for this question today to delete it because I came across that video last night! Extremely helpful, as are all your videos. I'm a homeowner who had a disastrous result from a company that tried to fix flooding into my garage from my side yard, using, of course, socked perforated corrugated pipes that collapsed after about six months. It's a story, but you have helped me understand what went wrong and what will correct it. I'm a huge fan.
Great job you and you men completed. You are better off speaking directly with the customer. Texting responses just doesn't work for me in my business. Keep up the good work and explain this makes things work.
It looks good Shawn. but I gotta ask: how come you didn't mirror the pipe fitting configuration on the front steps?
that bent pipe near the porch would fit a sitting scarecrow. the legs would cover below the bend, the torso above the bend.
I agree with the home owner, the consideration should have been made to make the porch drains symmetrical to suit the more difficult side. And given how close the new downspout was in relation to the new pipe work, it was cutting corners by just having it dump onto the driveway rather than being collected to flow into the ditch. The finished look of the visible sections of pipe is also not great, with the vertical sections of pipe not being plumb in both directions lowers the overall finish of the job, and is a consistent downside across a lot of your previous videos. I do agree that results are always good, but if you get a good looking outcome that also works well then customers will be extremely happy
Agreed should be very little visible pipe. Downspouts should run down into the drains.
One very simple change will transform your drainage slope issues. Here it is: throw away the unsealed down spout pipe and replace it with a 4" sealed pipe. Then your down spout pipe will be transformed into a miniature city water tower...capable of taking the rain water up slopes and discharging the water far away from the house Foundation. Simple but effective.
Great job
I would have asked for the gutter downspout to be brought down closer to ground rather than the PVC brought up.
Have to say, baffled by what they get away with for building stuff up there. Didn't remove the composite roof, just threw down R-Panel and screwed straight into the existing roof...in the valleys no less. How does that roof not just pour water in? You guys did a fantastic job in helping get that water redirected away from the crawl space. And yeah, very good seeing Ronald again. He is one hell of a worker!
Thank you Dave! This was a good project for sure and when I talked to the homeowners about the looks, there was water pouring out of the pipes at the front ditch. That roof was shedding water!
Lots of metal roofs are put down directly on top of shingles
I have three downspouts that go directly down against the house in an L-space. I want to put a concrete border against the house. Do you recommend solid pipes that go down and create a hole into the concrete and risk future cracks or putting a channel drain and eventually connect to the drain to a basin?
17:08 You missed a chance to rotate the small one 90 degrees and place it above the large one. That would make it visually more apparent that 3x4 = 2* 2x3 and that you have literally doubled the capacity the downspout can carry.
Is the blue glue you use for the pipes a primer/glue combo? I don’t see you guys use primer
Yes that's Oatey Rain-R-shine primer+glue. We used to use separate primer and glue but switched to rain-r-shine. It's good stuff.
Thanks for another great video. This job is making me wonder about PVC applications in places colder than Greensboro. I thought I was a drainage expert from watching your videos, but then we moved from South Carolina to New York. Seems like PVC could freeze and become brittle in the below 0 temps, with the deep frost lines here in the North?
I don't have any experience with those temps and PVC. The deeper frost line may also cause soil heaving.
Thanks. Yeah, very different world up here from November to April!
Aren't those 2 huge trees that they planted in the front yard right going to wreak havoc on the pipes you just laid down underground? The roots will certainly get to them being so close.
The pipes are sealed with solvent welds (PVC glue) so they should be fine.
"budget barbed wire" LMAO
Its hard to fight "going to deep to fast", slopes are always better than flat areas... 😂😂😂
Yep! When trenching it's easy to go too deep...
is schedule 40 ready need just to drain out the water. i know it's a nice to have item correct?
