The only dirty little secret in regards to cannabis, is the simple fact that we grew this plant for thousands of years as a farm crop, with no regulations at all and in reality, no government or anyone else ever had the right in the first place, to outlaw the growing and use of what is probably the most medicinal and useful plant on this earth. People everywhere should unite and with one voice, tell their governments that we will no longer allow them to prohibit this plants free growing and use any longer. Even the Christian Bible tells us that we as humans, have the natural right to grow and use plants such as cannabis, to derive whatever benefits we can from them. So I think that its just about time to bring this travesty of justice to and end and if governments will not do as we demand, then get rid of them by any means necessary.

I have long preferred my Marijuana sun grown. However to keep up with demand, I must be able to grow in the winter also. In my state, that means indoor. It has been my experience that sungrown is better product with a better yeild. The greenhouse is great. Outdoor is a little tougher to care for, more pests and you must keep the buds dry, which means a constant eye out for rain and heavy dew. And I just wrote far more than I intended....smh.
The critical mistake is REGULATION. The reason it hasn't been grown outside is ultimately government regulation. Eliminate cannabis laws instead of adding MORE laws, and the free market will do the right thing.
I can grow in an indoor tent year round. I use led lights in a tent that is cooled or heated by the heat in my house. what we need is more clean energy. not outdoor dirt shwag.
Large scale outdoor growth of cannabis can potentially create a bunch of carbon offset, because it is probably the most carbon hungry plant per kilogram, and it is easily one of the most efficiently useable and grow able crops. It can be grown completely organic with little extra effort or cost, and requires very little fertilizer if put in appropriate crop rotation. An acre of the sativa variety of cannabis consumes far more carbon dioxide that an acre of North American forest and can provide twice the paper, clothing, and building materials (there is an Indian company that is developing a hemp based concrete, and an Israeli company developed a low cost laminated house framing material a couple decades ago). Estimates are about 1400 Liters of bio diesel from one acre of this stuff. It can truly transform our economies and our environment...not to mention that recreational cannabis is safer than alcohol, medicinal cannabis is making massive strides all around the world (it is no panacea, but it can alleviate much of our pharmaceutical dependence). In short, it is morally, economically, and ecologically irresponsible to allow our governments to continue to use propaganda and lies in order to subvert the potential of this crop in favor of the betterment of the worst industries on this planet.
Jeremy Hale i just wanna add one thing There is one problem still at the moment with hemp/cannabis its amazing that you can use it in so many diffrent ways but that also has a negativ aspect ofcause hemp is easy to grow but there are plants that are supririor for nearly amy aplication fpr example bio fuel (rapeseeds) for cloth fibers (cotten) for building material fiber (bamboo) .... So its not a wonderplant you should just keep that in mind
@@Carrion00 what's wrong with cotton ? The fiber is rly nice to work with compared to hemp where there is alot of work tu extract/prepare the fibers for cloth
If 90% of corn production was forced indoor due to its legal status, it would have the same problem....... If it were fully legal, growers wouldn't have to go inside as often.
As a grower in California, I could not agree more. We should have poison free food and cannabis. All medicines. I love to be in my garden. Wish I could afford a couple of those hi end greenhouses. Sun grown and organic. Demand this when you make a purchase.
how can there be polution from using electricity when it comes from a dam that uses water to turn a turbine , onle you use charcol , here were i live it water turbines and wind mills solar panels
^^ okay. Not everybody gets their power from your turbine g. The picture is much larger..

Also, damming up rivers disrupts the eco system. Destroys fish habitats. Stops sediments from flowing downstream causing extreme erosion. Holds the sediment behind the dam which can become contaminated and need removal costing millions upon millions of dollars... There is a dam in my hometown that caused the "gorge" below the dam to basically collapse into itself and they have been talking about removing it for years but they cannot before they remove all the toxic sludge being held by the dam. Several years back they removed some of the smaller dams upstream and afterwards you could literally see the sediment flowing downstream slowly changing the entire river.
Those dam designs are surprisingly bad compared to eco-safe dispersed small hydropower which doesn't block streams and rivers. French Riverland (great site with restoration of early hydropower sites, and they aren't selling anything. This post is not spam) have many interesting examples of clean power from restored old hydropower sites.
Guy Beland water power damages local wildlife. Wind mills don’t pay for the energy used to make them, and impact high flying bird populations. They’re greener but not green. Solar is the best, but few places are truly solar powered.
Decriminalisation would solve many problems...prison industrial complex, global warming from heatloss, energy consumption resources being reduced drastically and everyone having free access to the world's greatest plant for consumption
The only thing government needs to do is ALLOW for it to happen. It doesn't need to incentivize any more than that. Silly rules currently in place is what drives grow ops indoors.
Growing out doors, in CA will get you bugs, or pesticides & if you make it to harvest thieves will come!! It is easy to triangulate the smell and find 'the back yard'!
Vertical farms with 360 degree openable windows would use natural sunlight. Geothermal design would require no power to heat/cool, yes? The Netherlands grows massive amounts of tomatoes in warehouses btw.
+THC CBD ending prohibition is not causal to this outcome. We are still seeing investment in massive, legal bunker grows all over Canada and the US. Sungrown cultivation will eventually price out these indoor producers, but this problem needs awareness so we can skip the costly process of weeding them out through the free market!
+Dan Sutton well so far i have yet to see an outdoor grower that can rival top shelf indoor quality (keeping in mind ive seen alot of amazing indoor crops and dont know a lot of outdoor growers)... going by the product ive seen avail to buy, outdoor is just the mid shelf filler... the stuff i avoid completely when buying, not because its outdoor but because it taste terrible, like nutes (harder to flush soil) or dirt, low quality, generally extremely leafy, because of the way and in the quantity its harvested its generally cured in a shitty way too.... Also another way to look at it, the highest quality outdoor i can find can only command around $1.5k/lb where ive seen indoor that still commands $3k+ (back when i grew it was around 6.4k+/lb) - reason i mention isnt to compare cost of grow to cost to sale, its to show value and demand for quality... there is easily 50%+ of the market that would smoke camel/marlboro brand joints and not care what quality but also a large part of the market that cares and ones like me that are pot snobs :)
did he forget about the whole multiple harvest's indoors thing? yea if its legal you can take up 10x the space and make up for 10x the harvests but the land is expensive too.. shrug id love a greenhouse that had a closeable roof and lights to supplement, then your set benefit of both worlds
Led lights for indoor growing with the grow facility made out of Hempcrete with walls 2-3 feet thick and partially underground for insulation requirements while using geothermal, solar and urban wind turbines.Green roofs to help eliminate heat sink island on and around Eco-warehouse,ie: asphalt parking lot with many trees for shading unlike the old Hershey Plant.
I'm curious to know what the carbon footprint of heating a greenhouse in the winter time in Canada vs the grow lights wich provide the heat in a basement.
Here we are 7 yrs from when this video was posted. I think we have more greenhouse grows now than ever but still it seems the majority even on the legal market is indoors. It doesn't help that most people want "bag appeal" above everything else. I've had outdoor bud that was on a different level from any "exotic" indoor.
Tomatoes are grown with artificial light here in northern Europe. Summer lasts only 3 months, that's when we do outdoor growing. 9 months it's indoor growing. I would like to see a cannabis plant (or any plant for that matter), that grows outdoors, when there is 20 hours of complete darkness in a day and -25C (-13F) cold outside.
You can grow cannabis like a tomato with one major difference, you should wash your tomatoes to remove pesticides and even airborne dirt or fertilizers or hormones, etc. You cannot do this with Buds though, they also are hopefully very sticky so whatever goes through their environment tends to end up stuck to them, for greenhouses preditors like mites, powdery mildew, aphids, and stray pollen make life difficult. and still with no control for humidity and temperature without basically making it a sun operated grow room ...that's good for one harvest a year. Now I do love growing outdoors though and have done both types of grow many times. So I could just as easily fill a few paragraphs with the problems with indoor but in this outdoor debate, I didn't hear anything about these issues. Even in a legal economy, there is a reason why people do indoor grows.
indoor grows may have a bigger carnbon footprint but if you live in a place where the temperature fluctuates it's not gonna be good for the plant if you grow it outside
Growing outdoors is fine. But growing indoors let's you control when you want your plants to flower or how long you want them to veg. If I could I'd grow my most picky plants inside like Sativa and Sativa / Indica hybrids. Ruderalis and Indica would be perfect for outdoor. Specifically Ruderalis if you want to harvest every 3 - 4 months like you would indoors since it auto flowers anyways while Sativa would need a longer light cycle. Actually I'm not sure I could grow Sativa's the way they were meant to be grown up here in BC since they need not only a more tropical climate but the sunlight hours associated with such places. Indoor will always have a place. But I think it's also a good idea to be able to freely grow outdoors as well. AS long as it doesn't become to invasive to local plant life.
living in Washington state where it's legal, and I have worked in a 3 tier i502 grow operation and witnessed the scale of this, I can defiantly agree with him on the issue. The carbon foot print is intact larger in ways he did not mention in this video. I decided to quit that job for that reason, among other reasons that I won't mention. But I do have to question, how using pesticides in green houses on such a large scale would compare to the energy usage as well as bleach and nutrient run off.
Weed gets you high, tomatoes don’t. Advocating an unregulated weed economy is like saying orange juice and tequila are the same. Even orange juice is regulated. Products that we consume, that get us high, should be regulated. If you want government out of weed, you shouldn’t have advocated its legalization.
Not all places can sustain an outside grow environment due to harsh conditions. The cost for a proper greenhouse with proper heating could cast thousands of dollars. Where using solar or wind power generation would cut down electricity costs using proper energy efficient lighting and proper use of indoor conditions will allow the small growers to keep going without the high carbon emissions. As well as keep the millionaire companies from cornering the market for this industry. So as a result huge expensive greenhouse systems are not needed and the big companies can be prevented from taking over turning the marijuana industry from becoming the new tobacco industry.
Cannabis is for the people! Good Indoor growers put pride in their work that supplies their medical community. Local grown quality is what the connoisseur want, not that mass produced bullshit your preaching. You know nothing about cannabis Dan Snow.
+GoldenStateOfMind He doesn't seem to know anything about energy either! Also he doesn't seem to know how to dress, so I'd say he's over all clueless as a person.
im not completely on dans side but hes kinda right about the energy consumption its not good, and a good connoisseur will happily smoke outdoor if its quality and its not that hard. im in ireland and ive smoked outdoor that was beautiful and we barely have a summer lol.... greenhouses are the way forward in places like america, spain etc. take advantage of that great growlight in the sky
Cannabis is a medical necessity for all those of us who have been consuming metabolically poisonous Vegetable oils in our diets and getting one or more of many more modern diseases. The solution is to go vegan and take cannabis supplementation until you are better while getting all vegetable oils out of your diet. You can use some polysaturated animal food-based oil, that in all animal products if you are not quite so worried about living as long as reasonably possible while remaining perfectly healthy.
This guys good, you can't beat the sun! Cannabis should be reducing carbon in the atmosphere by growing it in an outdoor environment not costing carbon in an indoor environment. State and County's need to start grating more outdoor licences!
people don't know how to decarb and consume and burn receptors thous leading to more consumption and tolerance breaks. only consume outdoor grown when ever possible
I'd rather grow indoors and have full control over environmental variables, outdoor growing isnt even an option in my country unless you want terrible quality weed, so yeah dont stop growing indoors and also we're gonna need to know that shit for when we get to Mars
I live in (US) Mass.and It's Legal Here, I grow my own. Unfortunately I don't have the indoor (Or Outside, Safely) space to grow enough w/o having to buy the way I've Always did (Pot Dealers, Not Dispensaries) in between grows.
Gee Dan, why did you delete your statement about being a "Small Business"? Was it the fact that you building a 120,000 square foot growing facility kind of eliminates any possibility of being "small"?
Just think of it this way, you get sun burnt and the sun is thousands miles away. You need to have a light right on skin basically to burn so which is more intense?
The carbon footprint of the beef industry is bigger than the cannabis industry. I agree greenhouses are probably the way to go which is why allot of growers are already using them.
+HipHopBeatSource that's because the cow farts are the biggest producers of a 'carbon footprint'. All this bullshit about man creating global warming....= BULLSHIT....Al Gore is the biggest liar we have seen in a while.
blite13 When did I say I want to exterminate cows? I just want us to stop artificially inseminating them, so that we can kill them half a year later....... Its called compassion, and , I'm here until someone assassinates me , so get used to my way of thinking
Kahler Nygard if we don't eat them...they reproduce on their own too. Just look at India, cows all over the place...just because you don't eat them, doesn't mean they won't be there....uhuh.
6 years later and NYC is about to start their recreational weed sales in September… the weed will be organically and sustainably grown in a greenhouse 😜
lol cartel have nothing to do with American grown weed. Green house growers have been in the green house game for years. And indoor don't take no wear near the amount of energy he speaks of.
Excellent argumentation about cannabis cultivation ; indoor cultivation is a HUGE waiste of energy and outdoor cannabis is the best cannabis EVER, in normal conditions. Free cannabis market NEVER do the right thing because its primary purpose is money, nothing else The only exception to the rule are companyies producing for medical purposes Advertising is WRONG : the purpose of cannabis legalization was to help ill people and let happy smokers in peace, but advertising praise the use of cannabis. The anti-recreationnal usage of cannabis people will always use this argumentation That's the"philosophy" of cannabis usage in Netherlands : they smoke it but they don't praise it, they are discreete, and that works for a long time now, quite smart actually...But in North America, people can help it, they always have to show off, it's in their nature...
Outdoor is mids 🤷♂️. Sungrown is a word to polish a turd and make it sound better but indoor herb is higher quality 99% of the time. Led and other things have saved the carbon footprint and 3lb a light the yield is high enough to make up for the cost to run it. Outdoor will never demand the prices indoor does. You can drink Budweiser or you can drink dom perignon. 🤷♂️
Exactly, it's the same as thyme, rosemary, chives, etc it's all food, just cannabis when eaten fresh off the plant has extreme healing powers, but must be fresh off the plant, when eaten fresh off the plant is boring as any other vegetable or fruit and doesn't get you high, just has extreme healing powers that's the secret with it, basically you wouldn't need prescription drugs if everyone new the truth.
Bruh my 100W LED can support all the bud for myself, and cost less on my electric bill than my xbox uses. This man obviously has never realized the quality differences between indoor and greenhouse/outdoor. INDOOR CANNABIS IS SUPERIOR FOR MANY SIMPLE REASONS
I totally agree that outdoor farming is essential for maintaining ecosystems.... however I believe that regulating the conditions for the plant indoors produces some of the best quality that is sometimes not achievable in the outdoors... if people and the govt around the world with the money they have were so concerned about their carbon footprint, as the businessman say, would invest in free energy such as charging electricity into crystals or Tesla coils....
In Asia ...almost 100% of pot grows outdoors naturally.....everybody should have the right to plant his own stuff .....we don’t need more companies telling us what to do .....this guy is trying to regulate it as well , just in another form , so that he can make money .....

So as a result huge expensive greenhouse systems are not needed and the big companies can be prevented from taking over turning the marijuana industry from becoming the new tobacco industry.
what we need to do is make energy more available at less risk to the environment.
nice some outdoor bud sprayed by Chem trail plane
Many want to grow outside under the sun. The problem is state regulations.
Cannabis is for the people! Good Indoor growers put pride in their work that supplies their medical community. Local grown quality is what the connoisseur want, not that mass produced bullshit your preaching. You know nothing about cannabis Dan Snow.
Exactly. ; )
+GoldenStateOfMind He doesn't seem to know anything about energy either! Also he doesn't seem to know how to dress, so I'd say he's over all clueless as a person.
GoldenStateOfMind amen dude!
lol nice game of thrones reference
im not completely on dans side but hes kinda right about the energy consumption its not good, and a good connoisseur will happily smoke outdoor if its quality and its not that hard. im in ireland and ive smoked outdoor that was beautiful and we barely have a summer lol.... greenhouses are the way forward in places like america, spain etc.
take advantage of that great growlight in the sky
Might indoor grow houses look to wind and solar to negate the power consumption issue?
if I'm not mistaken mushrooms are grown indoors too
Green house can work nicely and you can grow more than one season a year
Cannabis is a medical necessity for all those of us who have been consuming metabolically poisonous Vegetable oils in our diets and getting one or more of many more modern diseases.
State and County's need to start grating more outdoor licences!
people don't know how to decarb and consume and burn receptors thous leading to more consumption and tolerance breaks. only consume outdoor grown when ever possible
great info that i already did not know, good to inform those uninformed
I use candle light !
FTW ... I grow my medicine in my own backyard the old style.
“Why don’t we grow tomatoes in factories” awfully bold you assume we don’t
Just think of it this way, you get sun burnt and the sun is thousands miles away. You need to have a light right on skin basically to burn so which is more intense?
That guy is so nervous I can almost smell it
The carbon footprint of the beef industry is bigger than the cannabis industry.
+blite13 well it is man who is farming the animals...... mankind could and should choose veganism
Kahler Nygard so you want to exterminate the cows? Too many cows? BLAME MAN, right? Get lost.
blite13 When did I say I want to exterminate cows? I just want us to stop artificially inseminating them, so that we can kill them half a year later....... Its called compassion, and , I'm here until someone assassinates me , so get used to my way of thinking
Kahler Nygard if we don't eat them...they reproduce on their own too. Just look at India, cows all over the place...just because you don't eat them, doesn't mean they won't be there....uhuh.
6 years later and NYC is about to start their recreational weed sales in September… the weed will be organically and sustainably grown in a greenhouse 😜
Hope I see Med/Rec Cannabis grown under the sun, like any other crop, before I die...indoor grown sucks IMO.
+Sungodv Do you live in a State where cannabis is illegal? I would love to see anyone grow more potent and flavorful cannabis than that grown indoors.
+RonPaul Revered No, 3rd gen native of the 1st legal state.
Dan Sutton=KOK
lol cartel have nothing to do with American grown weed. Green house growers have been in the green house game for years. And indoor don't take no wear near the amount of energy he speaks of.
It should all be grown in greenhouses or outdoors. Especially in California.
i was exhaling a dab when he said dab.
they do grow tomatoes in warehouses. and many other vegetables. best you RE think the presentation.
You don't sell tomatoes for 10+ dollars a gram.
Excellent argumentation about cannabis cultivation ; indoor cultivation is a HUGE waiste of energy and outdoor cannabis is the best cannabis EVER, in normal conditions.
Free cannabis market NEVER do the right thing because its primary purpose is money, nothing else
The only exception to the rule are companyies producing for medical purposes
Advertising is WRONG : the purpose of cannabis legalization was to help ill people and let happy smokers in peace, but advertising praise the use of cannabis. The anti-recreationnal usage of cannabis people will always use this argumentation
That's the"philosophy" of cannabis usage in Netherlands : they smoke it but they don't praise it, they are discreete, and that works for a long time now, quite smart actually...But in North America, people can help it, they always have to show off, it's in their nature...
well said
Outdoor is mids 🤷♂️. 🤷♂️
What about solar panels?
make sure no one buys this guy's herb. What company is he affiliated with. I will make sure to never have anything to do with them.
Are petunias regulated? Kale? Why cannabis then?
Exactly, it's the same as thyme, rosemary, chives, etc it's all food, just cannabis when eaten fresh off the plant has extreme healing powers, but must be fresh off the plant, when eaten fresh off the plant is boring as any other vegetable or fruit and doesn't get you high, just has extreme healing powers that's the secret with it, basically you wouldn't need prescription drugs if everyone new the truth.
alot of what this guy says is not true. firstly, there are plenty of indoor grows for vegetables.
i grow in my balcony for years........... just legalize it
whats ur adress lol
earth
wrong, DECRIMINALIZE it.
Homegrown tobacco and Homebrewed alcohol are legal, STUPID if cannabis is illegal
Legalize.
Get rid of the politics and let's do this right.
Except he forgot to mention most people who are actually up to date use LED's even if they are more expensive
someone please paint a giant weed leaf and a smiling sun smoking a joint on the Hoover Dam
