That is a very interesting thing to think about. I am not from the US, I am from a small town in Slovakia (more specifically, in the Eastern part) where I was born and have been living almost my whole life. I think I would go with one of the bird species that lives here because they are quite plentiful in my area, such as house sparrows, Eurasian blue tits, magpies, thrushes/blackbirds, ...

Linnaeus isn’t just the one who gave scientific names to lots of animals (including the orca), he’s literally the one who made binomial nomenclature, like, a thing, which is pretty cool. Naming orcas is also cool, though

@searchingforusername9393 Sans and Papyrus just both have the names of fonts haha. Sans for “Comic Sans” and Papyrus for “Papyrus”. And they also use those fonts for their dialogue.

as a houston native born and raised i would love to see a houston mascot. we’re the fourth largest city in the states and never get to be destroyed in disaster movies, but a lavendertown mascot would soothe the woe of being forgotten by hollywood

Cincinnati OH actually has a mascot- the flying pig!! There were big art projects to decorate them around the city/businesses, I’d love to see your take on it!
I'd love to see a mascot for Minneapolis-St. Paul, the Twin Cities. It would also be timely because Minnesota is getting a new flag and state seal.

I literally came here to say this! The loon that is now our seal should be our mascot! They could be combined with perhaps our state fossil? The ancient beaver! We also have a state muffin, drink, tree, and flower to pull from.
The River, our lakes, wild rice, the North Star and lumber jacks/paul Bunyan could be icons to pull from too!
The black, white, red and yellow medicine wheel would be a way to incorporate indigenous cultures too (as would wild rice specifically for ojibwe culture).

OMG the little bagel ears for New York I caaaaaan't... Completely accurate, although the NYC rats are a little more menacing than you make them out to be lol! All these designs are so cute, it'd be great to see more in the future! Maybe Boston or Detroit or something would be cool.
The only name I can think of right now is Eugene for NYC, I don't know why it just seems like it fits ;p

P.S. Kumamon (the black bear in your thumbnail) is the mascot for Kumamoto. It's actually pretty far away and on a different island from Tokyo 🥲 I don't know if Tokyo has a yurukyara that represents the whole city, but they've got a few different ones for specific public services and such
I USED TO LIVE IN LEWISTON! I moved out just recently to live with my mother in Washington and I do visit there everyonce in awhile to see my dad and grandma. Funny you mentioned the paper mill, I used to hate driving up or down the mountains and smell it (I lived in Texas for most of my life and I've never smelt anything like it before). I'd always have my airpods in listening to music so my ears wouldn’t pop due to the air pressure. Fishing there was really fun too, lots of rainbow trout. They still have the Christmas decorations up, I went over by last week to see them. It really means a lot to me and I'm surprised you of all people even mentioned it. It really brings back good memories.

As a native Seattleite whose favourite animal are Orcas, I can't help but especially love the little Orca friend you've designed! Seattle doesn't get enough love out in media things, I'm always tickled seeing people mention it. :D

These were such cute designs! I really liked the Lewiston and Seattle ones the most. I could totally imagine merch for them in the cities the way that Japan has merch of their mascots.
If you decide to do this again I'd love to see more southern cities like New Orleans, Dallas, Orlando, Atlanta. These are the more well known ones but I think you could make really cool designs because there is so much culture especially in a place like New Orleans :D

Visiting Los Angeles is a really unique experience! The best way I can describe it is that it feels like going to another country, but not really a specific country, but like *several* different countries all in one. It’s wild!
Ive seen a few towns with mascots!! Specifically, Tryon NC has a mascot called Morris the Horse, bc it's in an area with lots of equestrians. Morris is on all the postcards/trinkets in local giftshops, in parades, etc.
Also Hendersonville NC has bear statues all around. On almost every street corner in downtown, there's a different painted bear statue. And Brevard is famous for its white squirrels, so they're on all the town branding and there are several shops in town that are themed around white squirrels.
These are just 3 towns in a very small area, im sure they're alllll over the country.

omg! taking japanese in a new zealand high school i was once assigned to make a mascot for a new zealand city. my city was wellington, the capital, and i named my mascot Kaze Guruu kun (windy gru) and he was a robot with a wind turbine on his head. it's so cool to see mascots for other cities around the world!
The funny thing is that the city I live in, Cincinnati, actually has a mascot, the flying pig. Why the flying pig is so important to Cincinnati is because in the 1800, many farmers in that area got most of their profit on pigs. So pigs became a huge symbol. There are flying pig/winged pigs everywhere in Cincinnati, and we have an annual marathon there called the Flying Pig Marathon.
L.A. - Holla or Holland (sound like “hollywood” “hola” and “holler”)
NYC - Newton or Coney (lots of cones in the design and coney island)
Seattle - Needle (space needle + record needle)
Lewiston - Odie (sounds like “oh dear/deer” and “oder)
To name the mascots, here are what could be good fits for these mascots:
1. Louie (Because it sounds like Lewis)
2. Laylay (because it has "LA" in it)
3. Free (because Freedom and it has been a name according to some)
4. Rocker (because Punk Rock)
And that's that, I know some of these are fairly bland but then again, I was feeling bland at the moment, so... Yeah.

Oh man there's a Canadian city i grew up 5 hrs from, that was considered "the big city" where we'd stock up on essentials, so we went there a few times a year...But every time it just stiiiinks. The pulp mill makes the whole city reek 90% of the year. On the highway in, you can often smell it before you see it. Honestly making a paper/pulp mill towns mascots main trait "Stinky" is incredibly fitting lol.
I love all these designs so much! the two tails on the orca was a clever way to incorporate that, until you said it I thought you were drawing its tail wagging kind of weirdly but this is so much better
I think the lewiston animal should be named clark after his brother :) and since los angeles is the city of angels you could name the coyote gabriel, michael, or something like that. the rat pigeon could be stewart little and the orca could be willy
If you get a chance I would love to see a mascot for Washington DC! It’s probably one of my favorite cities, mostly because of how many awesome museums there are. I could go to the Smithsonian every day and never get tired of it.
I live about 2 hours from Seattle, and tbh I kinda forget that Seattle (and just Washington in general) have had impacts on culture, and I getting more rep for Washington/the Pacific Northwest. And an orca is absolutely perfect ❤

3. Peter! After spiderman, or course! Because again I'm a huge nerd. (I also hope you know every detail you put into that design were all things I was hoping for and imagining the second you said New York, it came out SO PERFECT! I wouldn't change a thing!
4. I LOVE this orca so much! Every design element is perfect! I's name it Siren! Yes as a nod to starbucks but also a Siren Song! That sounds metal lol

I’d love to put forward Jimi for the Seattle orca mascot! The Jimi Hendrix exhibit is a staple of Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture, where many of their exhibits rotate out. And he is, of course, legendary when it comes to his influence on music! It also just seems like it would suit a lil punk Orca.

i'm so glad you added Seattle!! i live in Washington and i used to go to Seattle often as a little kid because my dad had to do work trips there! I never saw any orcas but i did go to this place called the Undersea Gardens there and there were sea lions and other creatures, and my biology special interested little kid brain was having the time of his life! i also saw the troll under the bridge! I never went in the space needle but i saw it. i wish to visit Seattle once again to this day, i haven't been there since about 2014 or so.
