@kenterminatedbygoogle -- Are your serious??!!!!!!!! He was one of the greatest producers in hip-hop!!!!!!! You cant be more that 22 years old, maybe he' was before your time. Google him!!!!
Damn, I found this 8 yrs late. Brought a tear to my eye. As someone below said, RIP Phife, Dilla, and DOOM. Through your music, you all felt like close friends, f'real.
This video is so sad. Man, I wish Phife could've gotten his health under control. Taken from us too soon. Love this entire collective for everything they've given us.
I feel like Phife knew his end was coming. This song is one of the most unique songs I've ever heard. It combines Phife's reflection of his past with Dilla while bringing us to the present where health, stress, and life have brought Phife new appreciation in wisdom. What's so interesting about this song is the story we get about Dilla through the eyes of Phife but never fully expressing his feelings, leaving that for when they meet each other again. We will never be privy to this, but the feeling is not a goodbye but a see you later.
... Plus all the imagery/visuals is powerful! 2:49 I cry! Fo real... 10 mn earlier I was listening one of his beats while remembering what a unique moment in my life when I was at his last concert in Paris, with my Sony minidisc recorder and a mic. I recorded everything!! In my memory too. I was in front of the stage when this literally happened: The crowed splits and Jay Dee appears in a wheelchair with the help of his crew, they lifted him on the stage. Crowd was screaming but at the same time a lot of us wasn’t expected to see him so sick. I started crying,, my friends too. After a few minutes in front of him I stopped the recorder and get out to get some fresh air. I came back after 5mn, I didn’t want to miss more of it. Knowing this moment has a huge meaning for my man Dilla. His last tour. 👋
I met phone once, while I was a security guard, I had the chance to walk him to his tour bus. I recall him being extremely personable. I grew up listening to atcq and more bc my big brother introduced me to them. I love jd, slum, etc. Needless to say, Phife took my being a huge fan reall smooth with a smile thank you, and went on to talk about being a sports fan and spending a lot of time being involved in his own way in the sport of basketball. I felt such a relief and blessing to actually speak with him after growing up with his body of work. All I can say is, that still to his bus, made me feel like family and I sensed how it must be to truly be happy and content. RIP NOT ONLY TO JD AND phife to all the ppl reading this whose lost loved ones. It’s hope, simply hope to see our loved ones again that makes me a believer in the afterlife. Peace world
@@AfricanGirl In case you're not joking. The song is about one of the greatest producers of all time, J Dilla, who passed in 2006. He had a good relationship with ATCQ. Phife dawg, who made this song, sadly passed away in 2016 himself.
"Hold tight, this ain't the last time I see you, due time, that's my word I'm going to see u" That line hits me hard! I miss these 2 blessings to mankind. 😔
After hearing about Phife, I immediately broke down to tears. I'm only 16 but I listened to ATCQ a lot. All I wanted was to see them perform in my life at least once!
im 17 brotha and ik how u feel... discovered real hip hop in 2012 and tribe was one of the first i discovered. they had such a major impact on my life through music
If you dislike a video like this you seriously have some problems, best part is they probably dont even recognize legends like Dilla or Phife. RIP to both of them!!
Just playing devil's advocate... Maybe they disliked it to represent that they disliked that both these guys are dead??? I'm grasping at straws b/c I refuse to believe that there are assholes who would dislike this for spite.
Sitting in dialysis now because my kidneys gave up on me too...hits you pretty hard when doc tells you things ain't working like they're supposed to be. I'll be hooked up to a machine 3 days a week, 4 hours at a time. Some days it's too much...weak, tired and nauseous...but I come listen to Phife and ATCQ and it gives me enough ambition for another day. To all you young folks out there, watch your health. I was healthy and took care of myself...never smoked, not a big drinker...kidneys still failed at age 46. R.I.P. Phife...thank you for the inspiration to make it another day. 😉
I think this is the second time I cried and really tried to hold it in from death of a person I don't have any familial ties to. Tribe, De La, Slum, Wu...etc. In the 90s growing up as a non-black minority, hiphop was the only thing I could really relate to and be a role model to me because I simply had none. That ended up making me love the art form, DJed, made beats etc and even to this day. I decided to walk the road of going into health field later in life and sort of promised myself when I met phife as a fan, I would give him words of encouragement when I became a fully fledged doc years ago. I didn't get to do this which broke my heart. His death "ironically" fuels me to keep an eye for other people and their health. A good health is a long term process and often needs good guidance and support system. Phife you had a heck of a battle throughout your life. Diabetes isn't an easy disease deal with especially if you love to eat. I would know, I love cooking and eating and cannot imagine not being able to eat majority of foods. RIP and hope you are having a dope cipher with Sean price, Biggie, Pumpkinhead, Proof, Pac, Big L etc under beats Dilla make! If I weren't afraid to die, it would be for me to see THAT! Blessings to the families of the deceased ones
VHS GUY legit though, his production is actually progressing so much. It's kind of up to him which direction he goes though because he seems to enjoy modern era hip hop sounds
I never thought that there would be a more touching song to a friend than "T.R.O.Y", but Phife Diggy has done it. Welcome back Phife, this is how you come back.

His passing has hit me pretty hard, he's a true Hip Hop pioneer and A Tribe Called Quest will never be the same without him. It's such a shame, he was only 45. I really wish I had the opportunity to see Tribe live, I've always wanted to. R.I.P. Malik, thank you for your contributions to the culture of hip hop.

His dreams, as quoted above, surely came true, RIP Phife. Just when Gene Simmons wished for hip-hop to die, Phife had to die. Why!?! :(
Everything in this song is bittersweet, from Phifes lyrics to the beat reminiscent of Dilla. It really feels like a farewell. Sometimes we know even if we don't know.

R.I.P. Phife Dawg - you are so missed. I had a fantastic time being behind the scenes of you making the music video, "Dear Dilla" when it was filmed in Chicago. You was so humbled and appreciate the ATCQ fans. It is me at footage scene 3:06 with the red and white strip, and wearing my Chicago Cubs baseball cap. I will cherish this memory for the rest of my life.
If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane. I would walk right up to Heaven and bring you back again. No farewell words were spoken, No time to say "Goodbye". You were gone before I knew it, and only God knows why. My heart still aches with sadness, and secret tears still flow. What it meant to love you - No one can ever know. But now I know you want me to mourn for you no more; To remember all the happy times life still has much in store. Since you'll never be forgotten, I pledge to you today~ A hollowed place within my heart is where you'll always stay. ...i hope you'r rock'n the stars! RIP Dilla RIP Phife 2 cool brothers...unforgotten!

“This ain’t the last time I see you, In due time” it’s sad when you realise phife passed away not long after this song was released. When I reach heavens gates my first question will be “what have phife and Dilla been working on up here?
Fuck man, as a fellow diabetic seeing all that imagery and him feeling like shit at the doctors and not being able to eat the same stuff his friends really struck close to home. Then the part with the insulin vials and needles, goddamn it I know that feeling. Wish I could've gotten the chance to meet Phife, would've loved to have a talk with him about our disease just to get some more understanding of it. Now the only living celebrity I know of with diabetes is Brett Michaels and I don't wanna talk to him.
L. Nelson Butler I can talk to a beat box, but why? I know not everyone can sing or have talent. This "art"(if you want to call it art) form is attractive to the lower class, no talent people. It is something many can relate to.
Anyone here in 2021 and coming back to show love to two of the greatest? I named my dog Phife and Dilla has been my favorite Producer for at least 20 years now.
I cried when I heard this. I just saw this today and cant believe it took so long. I really miss Phife RIP. Imagine if Phife, Dilla, and Mac Miller were all alive and making music together?
Listening to this on this sunday morning... chills all over. Man.... those 2 masters left us and gifted the planet with the priceless gift of their talent. We need their vibe more than ever in this disturbed world. Thank you Phife and Dilla for bringing positivity and Light !!
Here are some of the songs referenced here: 0:42 - Slum Village - Hold Tight 1:48 - Slum Village - Raise It Up 1:53 - Steve Spacek - Dollar 1:58 - Q-Tip - Let's Ride 3:02 - Common - The Light 3:07 - Slum Village - Players 3:10 - J Dilla - Fire Wood Drumstix 3:15 - J Dilla - Baby Unfortunately I can't figure out samples at 2:53 and 2:57 (they are muffled in the music video but are clearly heard in the track itself)

+Spicy Memes You're right, 3:05 was the accurate time that you saw me. Thanks for the clarification.
Tears of joy...life on Earth is just a test and for us to learn and to see God's GREATNESS
If tears could build a stairway,
and memories a lane.
I would walk right up to Heaven
and bring you back again.
No farewell words were spoken,
No time to say "Goodbye".
You were gone before I knew it,
and only God knows why.
My heart still aches with sadness,
and secret tears still flow.
What it meant to love you -
No one can ever know.
But now I know you want me
to mourn for you no more;
To remember all the happy times
life still has much in store.
Since you'll never be forgotten,
I pledge to you today~
A hollowed place within my heart
is where you'll always stay.
...i hope you'r rock'n the stars!
RIP Dilla
RIP Phife

RIP Phife and DIlla, though you're gone; your artistry lives on...
Now the only living celebrity I know of with diabetes is Brett Michaels and I don't wanna talk to him.
u next lol
"When's the last time you heard a funky diabetic?"
@@somedude5990 You like peaches little girly?
@dmaster5556
Brett Michaels..lmfaooo!! I didn't like him when he was popular as a wrestler.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

+Cliff Po Honestly I don't see where any talent was involved.
+george fish Way more talent than it took for you to post your comment I'll bet.
L. Nelson Butler I can talk to a beat box, but why? I know not everyone can sing or have talent. This "art"(if you want to call it art) form is attractive to the lower class, no talent people. It is something many can relate to.
I was going to laugh at you after reading your comment, but then I decided to laugh at you.
This gives me chills
Anyone here in 2021 and coming back to show love to two of the greatest? I named my dog Phife and Dilla has been my favorite Producer for at least 20 years now.
Every now and then I come back here to pay respects to Phife and Dillla. What a legacy they both gave us. The whole native tongue period..❤️👊🏾🙏🏽
So rare to see a rapper dealing with real world things like diseases. I really appreciate that. I miss the good old times, guess I am getting old...
Here are some of the songs referenced here:

3:02 - Common - The Light

Unfortunately I can't figure out samples at 2:53 and 2:57 (they are muffled in the music video but are clearly heard in the track itself)
There's also a reference to Dilla's LP/Album "Donuts" in there (I forgot the time)
