Great! I am new to your site, very well done, many times you can't see the fingering so well, you show it quite clearly. My old Strat has a neck like yours you mentioned that was a 70s. neck. good info, I had no idea. Good luck with the projects. Thank you, You give me hope, Dennis
Hi KenIt's great to see you back on RUclips again and as ever what a good tutorial you have made. You have been missed my friend keep it up as your time permits.
Grazie Walter! Non faro molte video come prima con gli altri progetti che faccio, pero spero almeno di pubblicare qualcosa ogni tanto. Spero di vedere qualcosa di te presto. Ciao amico mio! Ken :-)
I am sure Ken the passion you have for music you will apply the same on building guitars as well I know for sure you are going to do great my all the good wishes and will really like to follow your projects. I have learned so much out of your guitar lessons. Thank you so much for the time you are giving I understand it really hard to take out time when you are so busy already with your ongoing and so important projects. God be with you ....{:-)
Hey Mithoo1234! Good to hear from you my friend! Thank you for your kind words, I am glad to hear you have enjoyed watching my videos and got something from my lessons! I hope you are well. All the best to you. Ken :-)
Great instruction. But different from the Shadows Greatest Hits Album. It would be great if you can teach us how to adjust the echo effect. Thank you for wonderful tutorial.
Hi Ken...Good to see a new upload from you....Another very nice tutorial and playing performance....T/U... Have a great week.....Best regards from Liverpool.......Dave
Hi Dave, thanks for your message, I appreciate it my friend! We are having a nice sunny day again here in Durham, I hope that it is the same for you in Liverpool. All the best, Ken :-)
Hi Ken...I didn't know that you were in Durham...glad the weather's sunny for you...bit more cloudy (and rain) here in Liverpool today and over the past hour....
I've been in Durham for the last 6 years, I lived in Italy for 14 years before that. I was in Florence when I first came across your channel and subbed I think. The weather has changed here now and it's getting windy and cloudy...ah well, it was nice while it lasted. I suspect we may have storms tonight with the air being so sticky. Enjoy your evening, Ken :-)
I remember you had a Italy connection...Maybe I've missed something you've told me about your move to the Durham in the UK....Yet, it's the American accent that confuses me....Yes...weather wise...back to normal...and maybe some warmer weather middle to end of next week (hopefully)....Regards....Dave
It's raining here now Dave, hopefully as you say the sunshine may come back next week. I lived in the US briefly, somehow always managed to find myself around Americans especially during my time in Italy. Florence is dominated by American travelers and art students so I spent many years around them, I guess their accents rubbed off on my a little. I am picking up some words now from the NE of England. To me accents are like musical sounds and I pick them up unintentionally. :-)
Thanks for your kind words Antonio! I may do some videos later on on some of the processes of building guitars, for now I have to get some more experience myself. I appreciate your support, cheers. Ken :-)
Hi Antonio, personally I have never tried a Floyd Rose so I couldn't tell you much about them really. In principle the result has the same effect so my guess is that it would work fine. I have heard many opinions on Floyd Rose bridges, many people say they are a pain in the ass to set-up and keep in tune, others swear by them and say they are the best things they ever used. I guess it's all about personal taste. :) If you decide to install one let us know how you get on with it. Regards, Ken :-)
What are your plans for guitar building, types, finishes. I'd love to learn Blue Sky, Blue Sea, Blue Me. A beautiful piece and no lessons on the internet
Hi Nigel, My plan is to build a Hank Marvin Stratocaster once I have everything I need to do it. I will probably spray Fiesta Red nitro cellulose onto the body as a finish. When I built my telecaster I used wood stain and tru oil. Tele's are much more simple to build as they are very boxy, the Strat has more contours and curves to cut so it's more of a challenge. Once I get that one done I will begin to build other guitars and I hope to create something original in design perhaps using exotic woods. I have never heard 'Blue Sky, Blue Sea, Blue me' before, I will listen to it now. All the best, Ken :-)
kenmercermusic Thank you. I did wonder whether you'd go for a Hank Marvin stratocaster or a Burns. The Stratocaster is so iconic with many artists but none more so than the Shadows. I'm making a guitar for my daughter who is 3.5. It started life as an AXL Tiger Pro in Blue Quilt and I've reshaped the headstock, made a decal with her name and is currently covered in cerise pink glitter. I'm making a telecaster for myself which will be covered in material and sealed. clear scratchplate. Steve Vai meets Fender 😆 Good luck with the project. Nigel
That's so cool man. I would love to build guitars and I love the idea of backing tracks. I wanted to do that at my gig coming up, but I ran out of time 😕
Hi Ken, thanks for this video. Brings back a lot of good memories! Just one thing, the link above to the GR Patches doesn't seem to work in the sense that I can't download anything. Any help on that?
Hi Ken, nice to see you back with another excellent tutorial which as usual is very precise and easy to follow, just wondered what got you into The Shadows music as most people who like me are massive Shadows fans are of a certain age group (from the 60s) and is nice to see someone of your age being influenced by the group and playing the instrumental songs so well. all the best and keep up the good work.
Hi Keith, good to hear from you my friend. I first heard the music of The Shadows when I was 15 at my Uncle's house. He had an LP record on of their greatest hits and I just loved the sound of Hank's guitar! I knew from that day on that I wanted to learn to play their music. I bought some Shadows cassette tapes in a second hand music store in London and started to listen to their albums. Thanks for your message, I hope you are well. Regards, Ken :-)
Good to see a new video Ken, great tutorial as always. Good luck with your other projects. I've built a couple of guitars and it really is quite satisfying, customising them to your own pick-up choices etc etc.
Hi Alex, I'm really enjoying the guitar building and like you say it is very satisfying. There is something very cool about shaping piece of wood into an instrument. Thanks for your kind message, I hope you are well. Ken :-)
A song that I played very well 50 years ago. Thanks for reminding me.🙏👍
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you Ali! :-)
Played a number of Shadows song I love this one best now got the chance to learn the complete song again Thank You

kenmercermusic Ken, just wanted to know your opinion on playing The Shadows songs with a guitar with Floyd Rose... have you tried? Thanks!
Hi Antonio, personally I have never tried a Floyd Rose so I couldn't tell you much about them really. In principle the result has the same effect so my guess is that it would work fine.
