    My guitar lesson / tutorial of how to play The Shadows 'Kon Tiki' . In this lesson I will show you clearly and accurately how to play the electric guitar solo just like Hank Marvin.
    "Kon-Tiki" is an instrumental tune by the Shadows. It became a No. 1 hit in the UK Singles Chart in October 1961. It was the fifth Shadows hit and their second to reach the top of the UK chart.

    At age 70 I visited the music shop and said "I want to sound like Hank". They sold me a cheap guitar the same colour as his and the amp that Brian May uses to practice. I am struggling with Kon Tiki which has always been my favourite but day by day its getting better even though Hank finishes before me. This has only been possible due to your excellent tuition. Please accept my thanks for making a dream almost come true.

    Hi ken , thanks 4 explaining and doing it slowly , I can now try this bit by bit when I'm on my own , im only a beginner so i have no confidence in myself so im scared ok getting it wrong in front of someone , this also goes 4 my keyboard or anything else , thank you ,

    • @kenmercermusic
      @kenmercermusic  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Sue, I'm glad to help out. Don't worry about making mistakes, confidence is something you build up over time. I can remember when I first went busking with my guitar in London's West End 21 years ago and I was afraid to sing in front of people, instead of singing I whistled the melody quietly to myself and then gradually built up to a hum. Before I knew it I was singing at the top of my lungs in the busiest subways and squares in front of hundreds of people. Even professionals make mistakes we just learn to cover them. I often have 'off' days when I feel like I am not performing as well as I hoped to do, this is normal for everyone. The important thing is to enjoy playing and give it your best. Confidence will come don't worry. Remember that most people will only realise you made a mistake if you make it obvious that you did i.e pulling a face . Just keep going like nothing happened and they will most likely never even know about it. Believe in yourself and enjoy what you do. Wishing you the best, Ken :-)

If you email me with some more details of what you are hoping to achieve i'e Marvin sound, Clapton etc. and what your budget is and I'll try to point you in the right direction. Also send me a list of the gear you currently own and whether you want to go with software, hardware or both. Also do you intend to gig live, play at home, use speakers or earphones? Any details you can give will help figure it out. mercermusic@hotmail.it Christmas videos are on my to do list. Yes the intro is E major for the first two strums then a change to E7, well spotted! I must have been tired when I made the video and forgot to name that chord. Cheers, Ken. :-)

      Hello and thank you! To get Hanks sound digitally you can use Native Instruments Guitar Rig... or get an AC30 Vox amp, TVS3 echo system or something similar, Morley swell pedal, and Kinman pickups on your Strat.

    at 11:22 in your video this is where Hank leaves an awful clam on the Dance On album. On later emakes he fixes this. I could never understand how he let this get included on this album.

    Hi, Ken great tutorial, sounds to me that Hank plays another chord on the outro I e, 4th fret 1st string / 3rd fret 2nd string / 4th fret 3rd string , not sure what the chord is

    • @kenmercermusic
      @kenmercermusic  5 лет назад +1

      Hi banjobunny19, Hank played various arrangements over the years so it's likely you found a different version. Can you send a link to the video you watched so I can explain what chord he is playing? It's probably the same chord played in a different position. Glad you like my tutorial. Ken :-)

      Hi,Ken it was while watching the Shadows at the Palace Theartre in Manchester in the 1960s, I noticed this chord after the normal E 7th, I was playing lead guitar with the Manchester Roadrunners at the time so started playing this chord in Kontiki, it only seems to be used on some versions you hear

    • @banjobunny19
      @banjobunny19 5 лет назад +1

      Hi,Ken worked it out Bruce was playing a low E7th in the outro and Hank played a high E7th for two counts then A major,
