    Very informative, I decided to buy the 36” Blackstone model but wanted to understand the seasoning process before I even receive it. I prefer the flat top griddle to the messy grate type gas grill.

    You provided great information and video. I just finished seasoning my new Blackstone griddle and didn’t see anything about cooling between seasonings. It probably would have been easier on my hand that I had to wrap with a damp towel l! 😂

    • @TheCrazyPop
      @TheCrazyPop  2 года назад +1

      To be honest, I usually don't cool between coats, but it does say to do that on the Blackstone Website, so I wanted to show how they say to do it. (and it does help from burning my hands too...lol)

    • @StumpkillerCP

      I didn't see anything on the Blackstone site or seasoning video that said it should cool between oilings. Just to apply thin layers and let it stop smoking before adding more.

      From this article
      he griddle will billow with smoke. That’s called “smoke point” and it takes about 30 minutes for your Blackstone to get there. So relax, grab a seat, and watch the smoke fly by. When all the smoke is gone, you can turn off the griddle.
      #5 Time for some extra rounds!
      Like a boxing ring, it’s hard to knock out your opponent in the first round. Same goes for the Blackstone and the tension between the oil and steel. One round ain’t gonna cut it. To make the best non-sticking and tasty surface your meals deserve, you’re gonna have to repeat the seasoning. So be patient and make it count. Grab your oil again, dab it on the griddle, and watch the heated smoke-fest again. You should stop when the griddle plate is dark brown, and that takes around 2 to 3 times.

    I got all my griddles in winter for price reasons for the inflation lately. I found that the hood is your friend if doing this in the winter to get the whole thing hot enough to burn off. Just be sure you open the lid from time to time because it does need oxygen for the polymerization process to complete. You'll notice when you first open the hood it's not smoking as much but in a second it all starts to smoke. But it'll allow the whole griddle including sides to get hot enough if it's really cold

    Running a brand new griddle on high, is a great way to permanently warp the griddle. Around 450 degrees is ideal. Running on high can get to 600 or even 700 degrees, and that’s way too hot.

    Just bought this unit. Questions:
    1. how long does it take to cool down so I can put it back in the truck? Don’t want someone to snag it while tailgating.
    2. Can I use this in the back of my tailgate or do o need to put it on a metal table?
    3. How often do I have to season it?

    • @TheCrazyPop
      @TheCrazyPop  Год назад +1

      To cool down, probably 30 mins maybe and yes this can sit right on the tailgate of your truck without any problems. I have used it on picnic tables before. As far as seasoning it, you will want to clean it after each use, then just apply a light coat of oil before covering it up. Treat it just like cast iron. Hope this helps!

He may not know come here, but if you say "Bacon" he becomes you best friend. When ever I cook on my griddle he is always hoping that there is an accidental dropping of food.

    You don’t season the bottom for rust prevention? I’ve always seasoned the bottoms of my skillets and ovens.

    • @TheCrazyPop
      @TheCrazyPop  Год назад +2

      Nope, no need. I have never seen or heard of anyone seasoning the bottom of a griddle. My skillets and stuff yes, but no need on the bottom of the griddle. if it does rust some, it doesn't hurt it at all and it is not even recommended by Blackstone to season the underside. I have been using my oldest griddle for over 5 years now and still no issues.

    I'm a newbie. Hooked the 16 oz propane can. No ignition. What could be the problem? Newbie with using propane as well.

    • @TheCrazyPop
      @TheCrazyPop  2 года назад +2

      Check and see if the wire for the ignitor is to close or to far away and not producing a spark. If all that looks ok, unhook the hose from the propane tank for 10 to 15 seconds. that resets the regulator, and then reattach the hose and see if it works then.

    • @TheCrazyPop
      @TheCrazyPop  3 года назад +1

      Yes, make sure it is seasoned before cooking on it, after that, just cook, clean and lightly oil and it is ready to cook again. Each time you cook, it adds more seasoning to the griddle, so no need to reseason. Congrats on buying this, I'm sure you love it.

    Too much soap! No need to clean it for half an hour. It also comes out much better when seasoned in an oven or outdoor gas grill if you don't want any smoke in the house. This way it gets consistant heat all around without those hot spots under the griddle flame.

    • @TheCrazyPop
      @TheCrazyPop  3 года назад +1

    So I just bought a Blackstone today. I'm just a tad confused, do we have to use these steps each and every time we use it or is it if we use it once, then use it again a month later.. for example. I just didn't know if we had to season it the way you did each time I use the Blackstone.

    • @TheCrazyPop
      @TheCrazyPop  3 года назад +4

      No, this is just the initial seasoning. After this, cook, clean and just apply a light coat of oil and you will be ready for your next cook.
