I like how they handled the extra starters in ORAS. I got a kick out of Birch being in the same predicament multiple times
The one with the Sinnoh starters genuinely made me laugh so hard the first time I saw it, I was genuinely crying from laughter.
I've always considered Eevee a sort of Starter because of Yellow with the rival and Colosseum giving two evolved Eevees and XD straight up giving you an Eevee.
Also Eevee is the starter of it's Own Game
Yep that's true. I considered Eevee a starter way before then but Let's Go Eevee being a game just confirmed that yes Eevee is indeed a starter. Even if its not a standard Fire/Water/Grass Starter you'd normally see.@@patonosequecosa
I've always considered the elemental monkeys you get before the first gym in Black and White to be kinda secondary starters
That's why yellow is so fun. I wish there were always version of games where you can use all of them. Like emerald, platinum.... They should've done that
idk if you could count battle bond greninja from the Sun and Moon demo since it's from a demo and not the actual full games, but it exists

1:55 If I remember rightly those moves were only taught to saur/zard/toise at that point, so this is the only way to get them on any other starters in third gen.
Weird sidenote, I remember back in the Gen 4/5/6 days, people online were saying that in order to 'fix' the Pokemon formula, the starters should be different types other than grass fire water, with most suggesting fighting psychic dark.
First off, that in no way would improve or radically change the Pokemon experience. Second, grass-fire-water is understood internationally and by all ages. But to a newcomer to the series, fighting-psychic-dark makes no sense.
The formula works and it’s iconic I don’t think it needs “fixing”
Pokémon is always meant to be an entry level jrpg maybe the people trying to hate on pokemon maybe they just aren’t into jrpgs
The series knows what it is and its niche(by niche I mean space) and what it wants to be and there’s nothing wrong with that and it doesn’t have to be anything else
i think squirtle might be my fav 1st stage starter
you missed the fact that Pokemon Stadium gives you an starter randomly after defeating the Gym Leader castle
I excluded stadium because it requires another game to receive the Pokémon, and at that point, it’s not all too different from just trading in starters from another game.
USUM features more starters like the unova ones
Unova starters are in original Sun & Moon, not Ultra

Yeah, I feel like bare minimum game freak should allow you to always transfer starter pokemon.

Not overly. While the lore states it is/could be one in a different dimension, it's not treated the same way as the standard starters are mechanically.
I thought u meant by your title that u meant during main playthrough not post game reward
Sorry for any disappointment! On the bright side, most of these games where you have to catch the starters, you can get them at any time, just requiring some effort if you wanna go for them early
calling them first partner pokemon makes it seem like “starters” is a slur
