Honestly, I love and hate Leonie. On the one hand, she’s so sweet and cool and strong and she’s like a little sister to my Byleth, but in the other hand I got her B-Support after Jeralt died which made me very sad.
That is a horrifically timed support conversation, they should have made it happen before Jeralt's death so she while she's still mean during it she doesn't come off as a horrible yelling at someone immediately after their father died. Comes off more natural for the "you don't appreciate the person" guilt speech to happen before their death.
her B support can only be done after Jeralt's death... I expected her to be kinder to somebody who just lost their dad but ugh that b support is so horrible and make me not like her.
Leonie is one of those characters that I like but her flaws REALLY hold her back. That being her obsession with Jeralt. I can't stand her bringing him up non stop. But I enjoy almost every single other aspect of her character.
Leonie may be a viable asset when she is recruited, but that's all her character stands on for support, as opposed to how she interacts with other characters. In that regard, here are my reasons why she's not a good character in terms of her support: 1. Leonie doesn't demonstrate how open she is to other people, which is shown in the attitude she brings to get her way with some, if not all, of the characters she has support conversations with. It also doesn't help her become a mercenary because her plucky spunk might cost her finding any work without some restraint like Dorothea. 2. She puts work and training over socializing, which can take a heavy toll on someone who hardly does anything else besides fight and kill effectively on the battlefield or to survive. 3. Not much is known about Leonie because her background does not tie her in with the rest of the characters to the overall story arks of the game. 4. No one else is revealed to have made as much, or as big, a lasting impact on her besides Jeralt and Byleth. 5. Leonie comes from a small village where everyone paid for her to attend the officer's academy, which raises enough suspicions as to why she would want to go when her home was not too deeply involved in Fodlan affairs from the start. 6. In her support conversations, Leonie discredits what makes each character she interacts with unique or beneficial enough as fighters working together on the battlefield. As a result, she cannot be considered a "team player" because she is a one-person force to be reckoned with in a game not necessarily setup for that kind of character to play second fiddle to the main protagonist.

Rafael ST I definitely want to like Leonie, but the way her character’s written just *really* holds her back for me. I’ve never been the biggest fan of “character-obsessed” units in FE, and so I practically cringe whenever Leonie brings Jeralt up non-stop. Maybe I’d like her more if her character focused more of her impoverished background from her village rather than her fanboying over Jeralt-buh eh, I digress. I can still see why some people like her and you’re entirely justified in doing so, but like with Faye in FE Echoes, it just feels like she got the short of the writing stick compared to most of the cast. Though I do still think she’s better than Faye, being that she at least still has a personality outside of her Jeralt obsession. It just personally taints the rest of her character for me.
@@amirgarcia547 I won't say that Leonie constantly mentioning Jeralt isn't an issue, because it is, and it's my only real gripe with the character. That said, I don't think they were trying to go for the character obsessed route like Tharja, Camilla, or Faye for Leonie. If I recall correctly, most of her supports don't even mention Jeralt all that much. Byleth and Alois's supports revolve around him, but he's only mentioned briefly in Felix and Hilda's supports. Leonie won't shut up about Jeralt in her monastery and post time-skip battle dialogues though, and those are very repeatable, making it seem like she mentions Jeralt even more. It just seems like, for writing characters, they struggle to find a balance. I can't blame them really, with the sheer amount of characters in their games, adding too much personality to characters will make it harder for them to be consistent. Hence they're given something to always talk about for easy consistency. If it's not talking about another character, it's talking about say, eating and training, or being a true noble, or not wanting to do any work, or being convinced that they're useless, or not being a child, or wanting to be an artist. Those are all the Golden Deer. Everyone in the game has something or another that they fall back on, just to keep in character. In a way, if you don't look past those things, they can all seem pretty one-dimensional, but they're not. In Leonie's case, It's harder for people to look past it, specifically because Jeralt is the player's father. Leonie isn't the only one with the problem of mentioning another character too much in Three Houses alone. Cyril and Catherine do the same thing with Rhea. I just started The Blue Lions, so I can't say for sure yet, but it looks like Dedue is very similar. And if that's the case, Hubert will probably be the same. But in all of those cases, there is so much more to those characters than the character they constantly mention. And that's what the problem is. People don't have to like Leonie, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I just think that people are hating Leonie for the wrong reason. That is to say, because they don't actually know who she is and instead just slap 'Jeralt obsessed' on her, hate her, and call it a day.
Rafael ST I’m not sure tbh. For me I was definitely getting the same vibes with her as with other “character-obsessed” units, such as with the ones you mentioned, and it still feels like Jeralt serves as a large crux for her character. And I’m not much of a fan of Cyril for much of the same reasons as Leonie, but with Dedue and Hubert their devotion at least makes somewhat sense due to what they’ve been through, and they’re more of the “loyal servant” archetype such as with Frederick or Jakob. But I can at least definitely agree that plenty of peeps only look at characters at a surface level and don’t take the time to actually know them, which for me is a close-minded lens to judge a character. Much like how plenty of peeps despise Edelgard’s for her actions in the non-Crimson Flower routes without taking the time to learn about her as a character and do her own route. Or how several peeps dislike Bernadetta because her first response to anyone is “AAAAAAAAH DONT KILL ME” without taking the time to learn why she acts that way or seeing that she’ll eventually warm up to and open up to people when she gets to know them and learns to push aside her preconceived notions based on her trauma. However, I myself played GD, got all of her supports and used her up until the final map, but I still sadly couldn’t find it in me to like her, since for me her cons just outweighed her pros. There’s a character deep down that I truly want to like, but it just feels like the writers made her dialogue focus on the wrong aspects, and overall it just makes her comes across as obnoxious and aggravating to me. Like, I do enjoy some of her supports, especially with Ignatz and Lysithea, but then she does one thing that seems to taint her character for me, especially when a certain mercernary is involved. Like if I were part of the writing team, I’d have less of her character revolve around Jeralt and more about her impoverished background from her village, since that’s what I felt like was the most interesting aspect of her character. How a hunter who came from a backwater village was able to build herself up from nothing and eventually manage to enroll in the most prestigious military academy in Fódlan...and yet that’s sadly rarely explored in favor of her going on about being Jeralt’s ‘apprentice.’ And I’d also fix the dumpster fire that were her C and B supports with Byleth, since it only made it even harder for me to get into her character. But if someone else can find some enjoyment in something I don’t, such as you or anyone else with Leonie, then definitely more power to them.👍🏽 Heck, I myself adore Peri and Niles from FE Fates, even if they’re disliked by a good number of people for one reason or another.
@@amirgarcia547 Well, I mean, the reason I made a distinction between Leonie and previous character obsessed types is because with Faye and her predecessors, their obsession is with the main character, and more importantly, seemed overtly perverse. I didn't get that from Leonie. From I what I saw, she just idolized Jeralt and wanted to be just like him. And it made sense to me. Leonie is from some small hunting village, which was very likely the only thing she knew. Her world, in a manner of speaking. And then one day bandits just show up. A small defenseless village like the one she's from can do nothing against them, so they would pretty much have free reign to do whatever. And what do bandits do? Steal, kill, rape, all that stuff. The game wouldn't touch on something like that though (just look at how they revised Bernadetta's dialogue for being too dark). So when Jeralt shows up and tosses em out like garbage, it makes sense she would see a hero, and idolize him as such. But anyways, yeah, I can't change anyone's mind. At least you tried to like her. And not being able to like her because Jeraltjeraltjeraltjeraltjeralt, is totally valid if what she offered beyond it wasn't compelling enough. I mean, she's my favorite character, but it is annoying, you won't catch me denying that.
Rafael ST all she has to do is just shut up about jeralt so much and she’d be a fan favorite cause when she’s not talking about jeralt, she’s a really cool character.
As much as everyone talks about Leonie's obsession with Jeralt, she doesn't bring him up AT ALL in her supports with Claude, Bernie, Sylvain, Raphael, Ignatz, Lysithea, Marianne, Seteth, Catherine and Shamir (he does get brought up, but Shamir does it, so it doesn't count). That's 10 out of 15 (counting Male and Female Byleth as one support). More than half. And if you want it to count, she brings Jeralt up exactly ONCE in her supports with Lorenz, making 11. The only supports where she brings up Jeralt in any major capacity are her supports with Byleth (which make sense, they ARE Jeralt's kid) and Alois (which makes sense as well. They both look up to Jeralt immensely, so obviously they'd talk about him in some capacity). Her supports with Felix and Hilda only brought him up a few times each.
We're gonna need it with everyone jumping from trees with "one interaction she apologized for makes her a bitch" or "she mentioned her hero occasionally, fucking cunt" by angry dudes who think they're scholars and not little wimpy crybabies
@@ashen_roses yup. She can't catch a break. Some other characters are similar. Meanwhile some characters can say things like "I'll use you and your friends until the flesh falls from your bones" and get a pass.
Not when she keeps bringing it up in almost every conversation with the main character. It's as though she hates him/her simply because she's jealous that he/she's Jeralt's child.
@@Lord_Numpty Except that's exactly the kind of idiotic, exaggerated bias some people view her with imo. Even when she does call you ungrateful, she apologizes for it later and promises to protect you, and yet most people seem to ignore this... which is also idiotic. Even if the bad qualities irk you, you can't focus only on them and say that they're only a bad character because of them, because that's just disrespectful and narrow-minded, among other things. ^Yes, she mentions Jeralt a lot, but as these supports show, she is not ONLY about him. She is a character with good and bad qualities, some related to her admiration for him/things related to that, and others that are completely unrelated to this - therefore it isn't a fact that her character only revolves around Jeralt, simple as that.
She's actually a great character, I've liked her since I played Three Houses the first time 3 years ago. She doesn't mention Jeralt as much as people say tbh.
*Blue Lions playthrough* "All right! Lorenz was the last! I have protected ALL my precious deer from death!" *Battle of Grounder Field* "Oh yeah, I forgot Leonie. Guess I can't rout this map now..."
I didn't actually get enough support points to get her B support before chapter 9 so when I did get it, it was long after those events (like 1-3 ingame months). Because of that I guess the last lines of the B support didn't hurt as much and she was still one of my favorite characters.
Leonie is a *really* good unit and consistently made work of enemies in my GD run, especially with the Spearr of Assal. That being said, her drooling over Jeralt half the time sadly ruined her character for me. In her supports with Ignatz and Lysithea, she’s a lot more tolerable and even somewhat likable, but I just feel like the way her character is written make her come across as very obnoxious and aggravating to me. Which’s a shame, since I did *want* to like her character-but IS has to stop acting like a character obsessing over another character is an interesting character trait.
I agree. I felt so pissed when her B support came right after Jeralt's death. I was like "Byleth is grieving, can't you be a little bit sensitive!" Imagine how weird it is when you've a friend who's obsessed with your own parent, and that said friend accused you for not caring after your parent died. If it's not for her other supports that somewhat redeem her and her being a good unit and all, I'd probably have benched her.
@@hazirahnajihahali Given that Jeralt was basically her parent as well, at least about as well as he was a parent to Byleth (in that apparently he missed a good chunk of their life and didn't tell them anything) it's understandable that she would struggle just the same as Byleth.
Yeah, she's a character you want to like, but has that...Camilia-level obsession with a single character who they revolve their whole lives around. Like a satellite.
@@RandoGrunt Camilla HAD nothing else going for her. Leonie, like all 3H characters, does have other facets. Her aversion to debt and drive to succeed due to the village that trusted her, her work ethic, her brutal up-front honesty about what she sees... I just see all these complaints as people saying "there's nothing deep and dark below the surface like with Lysithea, Dimitri, Edelgard..." which... I guess? Sorry not every character's backstory was a tragic fanfiction plot.
Leonie's actually pretty chill most of the time she just doesn't seem to like poor Byleth that much (which doesn't do her favors when they're the POV character) I guess even Byleth's MC charme can't work on everyone. Dimitri and Hubert also take a while but for each of them there's a distinct point in the main story line where they're solidly won over. Leonie actually has a lot of meat to her apart from the rivalry gimmick such as her background as an ordinary village person and frugal pragmatic attitude, but they do overplay the gimmick alot in the plot scenes.
In my opinion dimitri is the lord who worships byleth the least (and quite honestly edelgard is the only one that bothers me) but he is never really agressive towards byleth (he did suspect byleth because of her no expression thing) hes way too kind for that
I like Leonie, her supports are great and she's a fun character all around. That said I wish writing outside of her supports hadn't turned her into such a one-note character. Her liking Jeralt is fine. Her having beef with Byleth (however temporarily) is fine. it's the fact that if you don't read her supports, you'd never guess she had any personality or thoughts outside of just Liking Jeralt a Whole Bunch. It's kind of the same issue that Cyril has; if you never read his supports, he just seems like a little kid with a weird obsession with Rhea. That said at least Cyril's obsession (if you really want to call it that) makes sense when you know he's been going from one horrible situation to the next since he can remember, and it was *Rhea* who pulled him into a place of stability and relative safety. Of course a kid like him is going to idolize her for that. Leonie's obsession with Jeralt stems from uhh... well she knew jeralt for a month or two? And yeah he made a big impression on her, showed her a way of life that allowed her to make money and protect herself and others. Which is important! But really doesn't justify her bringing him up every other sentence. Does she have other heroes? Other people who inspire her? Does she have any motivations outside of her hero worship? Intsys really pigeonholed her and let her down.
I think every support should be her talking about Jeralt: bernie: leonie dont change here! leonie: jeralt didnt mind! lorenz: im glad you understand my plight leonie: me too its what jeralt would have wanted. raphael: i love my sister! I miss her leonie: I miss Jeralt way more then you but I dont cry like a bitch! s support byleth: marry me leonie! leonie: lets go ask jeralt as his grave first! byleth: ...
Depressing? I think it's kind of the worst ending for Felix. A point where he just made a goof of himself. For Leonie I don't see it with bad light. She has always been that type of person who will try to get money from selling lemonade.
Very few of felixes non blue lions endings are particularly happy. Just compare his Sylvain ending on azure moon to the other routes, the difference is fucking stark.
really?? I dont recall Ingrid bringing money to her conversations that much, other than the state of her family lands and the need for money to improve it, which has a lot more sadder connotation as basically means she´ll had to give up her future and dreams in order to save her land. They DO HAVE similarities apart from that, both are tomboys that dont worry much about her appearance or ladylike interests, tho Leonie is a more typical one while Ingrid falls more into the "Lady of War" trope.
I wish Leonie's A Support with Byleth included an actual in-game duel between them and the conversation would change depending on the outcome. I just ran the numbers using Leonie's stats and my character's stats at the point in my current playthrough when the Support happened. There's a lot of things to factor into the battle. Who makes the first move? Is this a tournament-style battle in which range is meaningless or is it carried out on an actual battlefield where ranged attacks can't be countered unless the defender has a weapon with sufficient range equipped? Leonie's a Sniper in my current playthrough, so her odds are better when she can exploit her range, as she'd be able to deny my character a counterattack whenever it's her turn to move. On a whim, I grabbed an RNG and had my character and Leonie engage in a tournament-style duel, my character moving first in odd-numbered rounds and Leonie moving first in even-numbered rounds, with the duel only ending when one of them is out of HP. My character had a Training Sword and Leonie had a Training Bow. No battalions were equipped and neither character had a Crest they don't canonically have. Both had the abilities they had equipped for the previous battle. Admittedly, the in-game tournament duels are limited to three rounds and don't alternate who moves first. Being the player character, it does make some sense for my character to always move first, but since Leonie's the one who issued the challenge, a case could also be made for her always moving first. As such, I alternated. Leonie wound up winning in the fourth round, though it was quite close (both of them were one hit away from defeat at the end of the third round and my character only made it through the third round because the Crest of Flames healed him enough to withstand Leonie's counterattack that round). Who went first was important, as my character had Duelist's Blow, which increases Avoid when he strikes first.
I mean I get that poor timing of B support Byleth, but I mean if that made look like a selfish idiot well....that was the idea. Is it because it takes until the timeskip for her to apologize that people aren’t crazy about her? Cuz I mean GD was my first route and I only remember her supports being mostly about Jeralt on Byleth.....who’s his kid. She’s a stingy tomboy hunter who’s a bit aggressive. Honestly I’d say she’s one of the more down to earth characters in the game. Idk just my opinion.
Personally I just ignore her supports with Byleth. I think they’re terrible and the B one is so ill timed. Especially when she has so many others which are really great.
Did they really have to put up that B support with Byleth right after Jeralt's death? It really makes me wanna slap her, even when she was my favorite character originally Granted her A supports do redeem her character somewhat
Okay, Leonie's actually pretty adorable, genuine, and diligent. Seems like some people just choose not to look past her worst moments. She's kind of like Edelgard and Bernie in those regards.
Leonie is gorgeous, especially with the pre time skip short hair. If you make her a dancer she is even more gorgeous and has a cute victory dance when she kills an enemy.
I didn’t find her ugly per say before but after she looks significantly more attractive afterwards. Let’s be honest here who wasn’t relieved to see Leonor grow her grow her hair out and change her look.
I ignored Leonie early in the game before even knowing about the B support thing. I just found her annoying... I felt bad and wanted to include her again, but was locked out of her C support already :(
Maybe I underestimated Leonie by being one of those who said that Jeralt was EVERYTHING for her (although I still say it as a joke), but I still think she's the worst pair for Byleth by all means.
@@ayar2 She's boyish, if I remember correctly. Her hair is short before the 5-year timeskip and she looks more boyish. But in the 5-year timeskip she looks a bit too girly and her hair also got slightly long. And I didn't really like that.
@@NintendoGirl49 Its not that big of a difference, her hair is longer, but it barely surpasses neck length, her outfit is basically Jeralt based, and her figure, well, she's still a growing woman,. Ill argue Catherine can be more feminine than Leonie.
I clicked on this video because I really like Leonie and I wanted to see how much she talked about Jeralt because everyone hates her for doing so. to make a long story short i was disappointed- not in leonie but how much people exaggerated it. Like honestly she’s an amazing gorgeous well written character and she talks about her role model/teacher a little much but honestly not enough that it should be a problem. I dare say she gets more hate then Edelgard herself (who also doesn’t deserve to be hated without playing her route) if you play her route and still hate her, fine whatever but at least you see it from her perspective. Most people who hate on Leonie either only have C and B supports with her and not her supports with any other character or haven’t even played Claudes route or recruited her and just hate her cause everyone else does- i like to keep an open mind and watch their supports before spreading hate on the internet (also i’m not mad, you can hate her if you want, but it’s just the exaggeration and the amount of hate)
I just can't with Leonie. The 'not like other girls' is so strong here, and then there's things like challenging Felix to a duel and winning by setting a trap (which is generally considered as dishonourable in a duel) ; then getting mad when Sylvain doesn't flirt with her and then getting mad when he does. Calm down, girl.
Linguini I feel like every time someone says “I didn’t use (x) character” the response is always “they’re one of the strongest characters in the game.” Even if they are, honestly, some characters still getting benched because not everyone can go on the battlefield.
@@zoie.b Yeah, but with Leonie, it's different, because she is really strong, despite having no crest. Lorenz, on the other hand can just be killed off or forgotten, because even with the little Gloucester crest, he is nothing compared to her stat-wise.

But if someone else can find some enjoyment in something I don’t, such as you or anyone else with Leonie, then definitely more power to them.👍🏽
Heck, I myself adore Peri and Niles from FE Fates, even if they’re disliked by a good number of people for one reason or another.
Her supports with Felix and Hilda only brought him up a few times each.
very late, but its just fandom flanderization. its like how flayn is only allowed to be fish girl, felix is only allowed to be sword boy, etc.
Shamir's genuine laughter is so cute! It was a side of her I really enjoyed seeing.
Right? It made my jaw drop the first time I heard it. I love how stoic and deadpan she is but damn, was that laughter a treat.
Leonie gang, rise up.

@@aintfalco7968 Indeed.
I love her. Always been a sucker for tomboys. Plus her post-time skip design is incredible.
Honestly the B support isn't even that bad till the last line. Even then she apologizes in A. She's just a hothead with a good heart
Anyone else think people exaggerate her “obsession” with Jeralt.
No.
I think people forget that Leonie is as commoner as it gets. It's not like she has any other issues going on. So I think it's a fine change of pace
majorty of her supporters are "jeralt this or jeralt that"
she literally can't go a minute without mentioning jeralt, and calls you ungrateful.
I think she has more good supports than bad ones honestly.
She's actually a great character, I've liked her since I played Three Houses the first time 3 years ago. She doesn't mention Jeralt as much as people say tbh.
*Blue Lions playthrough*
"All right! Lorenz was the last! I have protected ALL my precious deer from death!"
*Battle of Grounder Field*
"Oh yeah, I forgot Leonie. Guess I can't rout this map now..."
Ouch!
its ok, she can admire Jeralt in heaven. no pun intended
You wanted to like her? I think you were looking for any reason to dislike her...
I guess? Sorry not every character's backstory was a tragic fanfiction plot.
leonie stans rise up 😎👊
I don't think anyone foresaw that part 2 leonie *c h e s t*
Anyone except Bernie.
Wow, she surely does lack of a personality. She didn't stop talking about Jeralt in the entire video, AMIRITE?! (sarcasm)
I think every support should be her talking about Jeralt:
bernie: leonie dont change here!
leonie: jeralt didnt mind!
lorenz: im glad you understand my plight
leonie: me too its what jeralt would have wanted.
raphael: i love my sister! I miss her
leonie: I miss Jeralt way more then you but I dont cry like a bitch!
s support byleth: marry me leonie!
leonie: lets go ask jeralt as his grave first!
byleth: ...
Leonie and Felix made sense to me but their paired end is so depressing
Depressing? I think it's kind of the worst ending for Felix. A point where he just made a goof of himself.
For Leonie I don't see it with bad light. She has always been that type of person who will try to get money from selling lemonade.
Well, their Azure Moon ending is actually very good, imo.
STREET PERFORMERS IS BEST ENDING
Very few of felixes non blue lions endings are particularly happy. Just compare his Sylvain ending on azure moon to the other routes, the difference is fucking stark.
I found it more hilarious.
Sylvain lowkey called leonie ugly, ouch
Frank Ford I think given her very tomboy appearance and personality he sees her as one of the guys
Tbf her pre-timeskip haircuit makes her look like a pumpkin.
I think they missed an opportunity to have a Leonie/Ingrid C+B support. They're both very stingy with money, after all.
She really looks like Chie from Persona 4
minus the meat obsession
Jeralt is never mentioned outside Leonie's supports with Byleth, Alois, Felix, and Shamir. You're all exaggerating.
"Sorry. I know it's true in theory, but it looks like my brain just doesn't want to accept it."
Bro, that's outta pocket!
XD
Leonie and Lorenz is OTP
I used to agree, but Lorenz and Marianne is just too good. He's great with Leonie too though. Both pairings are easily in my top 10 from Three Houses.
1:16:47 Leonie x Shamir
Claude would be proud of her Scheme in her B Support with Felix.
So this is the girl that runs around the monastery with a Jeralt dakimakura/pillow
I will tolerate no Leonie slander
Personally I just ignore her supports with Byleth. I think they’re terrible and the B one is so ill timed. Especially when she has so many others which are really great.
She should have a support with Petra about hunting
Did they really have to put up that B support with Byleth right after Jeralt's death? It really makes me wanna slap her, even when she was my favorite character originally
Granted her A supports do redeem her character somewhat
Leonie was grieving
@@AuroraExhale No it doesn't, but it makes her human/flawed, and I think that's a good thing.

Jeralt groomed her to wed her son.
I still hate how they buffed her timeskip design
buffed??
