Jayden Roberts he lacks the power to really oppose Rhea. She’s one of his only remaining family members left, and after his wife died and Flayn was injured, he became overprotective when it came to family. So even when he disagrees with Rhea, he cannot bring himself to let her die. He’s said that he’s willing to take a path separate from Rhea (when he retreats in CF or when he tells Catherine that him and Rhea simply walk a similar path at the moment, implying it could change), but his position and personal need to protect her prevent him from taking another path. It’s tragic, really. He disagrees with most of what Rhea does, but because she’s family he tolerates it. That’s a very realistic quality, one that I’ve seen in other people and never quite agreed with. Family for the sake of family is why abuse is a cycle. But that’s another topic, Seteth’s trauma prevents him from bringing harm to his family.
So a lil part on why Seteth is so overprotective of Flayn (and doesn't turn on Rhea, no matter how much she lies, refuses to tell him her plans and/or how much it goes against his own sense of justice). Flayn is his literal reason for breathing. He states so in a certain route. Everything he says and does depends on Flayn- because she’s all he has left. His only friends are Flayn and Rhea, and this is why, even though his sense of justice clearly goes against it, he puts up with Rhea’s questionable decisions and behavior. This is also why he was so worried when Flayn disappeared: He fears loss. Extremely. So much that he doesn’t even care about his own behavior or treatment of others: as long as Flayn is safe, that is all that matters. He’s sworn to live his life for her and that really shows. The circumstances of his life have also pointed out that Seteth is extremely loyal. He states so in your A rank support, I quote “And it is because of these ties you can be certain that I will never abandon or betray you.” Thinking it through, it’s tragic how desperate he is to prevent any more hurt from befalling Flayn or Rhea, because he has failed to do so before. This is also why you have two “switch” moments: upon protecting Flayn, and upon **SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT SEEN PAST THE TIME SKIP** becoming a vessel for the goddess; he becomes notably more friendly and trusting, and upon the awakening literally gets ready to lay down his life for you. Because you’re family. He’s stopped caring about who you are and what you do; no matter what, he’ll stand by you. Because that’s what family does. He's far too loyal and dedicated to ever turn on someone he has ties to, no matter his opinion of them, Seteth will always protect his family. They're all he has left, and he'll fight for them until the very end.
I think it's also interesting that this highlights the huge difference between him and Rhea and the overall contrast between them: they are both surviving children of the goddess who lost much of their fellow brethren to Nemesis, but the big difference between them is how they handle the fact that they lost so much. Rhea desperately tries to recover what she had lost (which is why she had many vessels to try to resurrect Sothis, so that she could see her again), while Seteth devotes his entire being to protecting what he still has left (ie Flayn).
ScraftyIsTheBest Exactly! This also adjusts their views of their own lives; Rhea has to stay alive to finish her task while Seteth would gladly discard his if it meant keeping Flayn safe. This also conflicts protecting what he has with his morals: he wants to defend and support Rhea, but she's off doing some... questionable things, to say the least. (To me, it almost feels like leaving the dead to rest is honorable to him; almost as though he thinks it would be selfish to bring them back.) They're both a little scary in their devotion, but to me, that's beautiful.
I love that Support because you think it would just be Hilda getting lectured, but she pulls a reverse uno card and surprises him... while still ending up more industrious by the end of it thanks to his guidance.
That moment during Bernadetta's C support when Seteth has to catch himself from saying he's writing about Indech's actual LIFE rather than just a fable. That moment in Bernadetta's A support when she says she imagined she was asking about Indech's life from Cichol's perspective...when that's what she was doing the whole time because Seteth IS Cichol. I just thought that the Seteth-Bernadetta supports were really well written because they really ran with "What if Seteth really treated Bernadetta as a relative of his best friend Indech instead of simply as a counselor of a really insecure student"?
Anyone else notice how in Flayn’s A Support, he mentions how he blames himself for losing track of his wife and Flayn, resulting in his wife’s death and Flayn’s injuries in the Battle of Tailtean? Then in Catherine’s A Support, he abandons his original position to back her up, which is the very thing he wished he had done for his wife and Flayn. It’s a great parallel, and it just goes to show why Seteth is so overprotective to everyone he cares about. With hindsight, he never wants to repeat the outcome of Tailtean ever again.
@@kingsman5121 If only he was Rhea’s father. Every threat to Fodlan and its people would be utterly annihilated by now and the Church would be the best institution the continent had ever seen.
Dude Seteth literally has the more agreeable version of Edelgard's ideas. If they had a talk with each other instead of immediately trying to kill each other, maybe things would have gone differently
Also Claude and Dimitri think that nobility based on crest are stupid. Meanwhile Hannaman is trying to use science to make it so that everyone would could have crests. And based on how everyone but Rhea, Sedeth, Byleth and Flayn got their crests and holy relics, I think only reason Rhea supports current system is that she believes it is for the best. It is almost like Edelgard is wrong thinking that change can only come through war.
I think it would have been great to see how she'd react to learning the history we learn in Verdant Wind on her route, as much of what she grew up believing was based on a long history of Agarthian lies. Would she question her actions in starting the war? Would she lose her stoic persona as she comes to grips with the reality of the situation? ...Or would she continue to insist that she was right in wiping out all traces of Sothis? (which, I think, Seteth and Flayn both serve as a bit of evidence that she should not)
@@masaheimoi Also add that in the ending epilogue for Hannaman, when he manages to get his work done, Rhea approves. So yes she most likely keeps it thinking its the best.

om3ga109 yeah I was kinda hoping for it too. But at the same time, he doesn’t have much connection to Ferdinand. To Seteth, Ferdinand is simply the ancestor of one of Seteth’s allies. It would make for an interesting conversation, though. Like Seteth could draw similarities to Ferdinand’s ancestor.
I wish there was more of Seteth interacting with the students in the supports. It's always wholesome to see him trying to guide them and being a role model to them. Makes me feel warm in my chest.
Seteth is easily my favourite character for this reason. All he wants is the best for his students - haven't even played Blue Lions yet but I LOVE his support with Felix so much. He reminds me of the pastor at my old high school when I was a boy. When I killed Flayn on the Black Eagles route, his reaction to her death made me cry. I am never killing this man and his daughter ever again - when I play the Eagles, they are being spared.

Well considering he’s one of 2 playable father in the game(the other being gustave) and compared to that other father he’s a much better father it makes sense how much of a dad seteth is
Seteth's definitely the FE3H character that ended up growing on me the most, with Ingrid and Ignatz not far behind. He starts out as a stuffy and strict advisor as well as an overbearing sibling, and at first I thought that's all he'd be. But once you get to know him you'll see he's very wise, caring and open-minded, and that he has legitimate reasons to be so protective of Flayn. His English VA, Mark P. Whitten, also does a fantastic job as him. Plus, marrying him means that Flayn technically becomes your daughter, so it's a two-for-one deal!
Traveller281 Seteth has a strange connection to Ferdinand. Ferdinand is an ancestor to an ally that Cichol trusted with his blood. So Ferdinand is essentially just the distant descendant to an old friend of Seteth’s. Not much of a connection beyond that. It would be interesting if Ferdinand were similar to his ancestor, though. That would make for good conversation.
Seteth: _HO HO, ARE YOU APPROACHING ME?_ Byleth: _I CAN'T KISS THE SHIT OUT OF YOU WITHOUT GETTING CLOSE!!!_ Seteth: _HO HO, THEN GET AS CLOSE AS YOU LIKE!!_ **Both flamboyantly strut towards each other**
I wish seteth and ferdinand had a support since they have the same crest. maybe Seteth wouldve remarked on ferdinands ancestor. They mustve been a dear friend or a very loyal soldier to Cichol for them to have his crest
Seteth: "im sure if you both lived in the same time im certain youd share a deep bond" Oh boy..... he Barely kept his secret there Lmao, hes popping out clues that the poor bear of varley didnt pick up on..
Seteth is one of my favorite "non-student" characters. For one he looks like Professor Snape, as if this game didn't have enough of a Harry Potter vibe. I also like how he doesn't just blindly follow Rhea. He'll speak his mind if Rhea does something he doesn't agree with, such as welcoming a complete stranger into the monastery and assigning them as a professor. I also have a soft spot for the doting father figures. His interactions with Flayn are always so cute! He may be her brother, but he acts more like a father than anything else. He also tries to help the rest of the students in the monastery as well, my favorite is his support with Felix. He was able to get his point across without offending or irritating Felix (which is a miracle all into itself). But he's humble enough where he's willing to learn from the students as well, like Leonie when it came to fishing.
Dude, Seteth is such a mood. And he’s so wise! He’s such a funny and nice guy. No wonder I went to S-Support him immediately. Edit: the laugh at 8:34 brings me life.
I wish they had a Seteth and Cyril ending, I got a nice father and son vibes from their conversations. Like perhaps Cyril with permission of Rhea decided to out on a journey to explore the world, journeying lands beyond Fodlan such as Dagda and his home country of Almyra.Years later though he encounters Seteth who is doing missionary work and he thanks him for giving him the courage to live for himself.
To be fair though, you can't blame Setheth for not being on board with making Byleth a professor. Like, this is just a random mercenary who helped out some rich kids far as he's concern. All that they really know is that he has a sword, and is related to Jeralt. And Rhea wants to trust him with the education of the future leaders of Fódlan. Yes, Rhea's reasons are eventually shown to be sound, but nobody knows said secret. Literally only Rhea knows why.
A bit late, but I think it's the complete opposite. Hanneman says he'll let that "slight" go, meaning he took Seteth's words as a jab at his old age. In truth Hanneman's completely unaware that Seteth views him as a youngster that managed to bamboozle Seteth into helping voluntarily.
Seteth’s support with Leonie is actually super wholesome. I like how it kind of ties back into his conversation with Felix about how Seteth wants people in his life who see him as a friend and not just as a superior.
Wow, based on the F Byleth S rank convo.... actually makes a great cannon ending. Think about it, Byleth only has an equal footing with Seteth, Flayn (less so but still), and Rhea. I would say Sothis as well... but i consider the S rank of Sothis my head cannon for what simply happens, minus the marriage part. All the rest are Byleth's beloved STUDENTS, and faculty members.... But with Seteth, Flayn, and Rhea, Byleth actually has a family of the same species (Manaketes/Nagas is what they are implied to be it would seem)
Seteth's support with Bernadetta, Felix, Ingrid, Hilda, Leonie and Byleth really make me like his character a lot! I like his outlook. I understand now why Seteth gets overlooked as a character because of his first impressions
I swear, such a GOOD character. He’s well aware of how fucked the system in Fodlan is regarding nobles and commoners, but knows that realistically, it’s the most peaceful way to rule Fodlan since Rhea has the longevity to oversee it, but he doesn’t entirely agree with Rhea’s decisions either. He doesn’t fawn over her the way Catherine does and talks to her as a person capable of making mistakes. His obsessive overprotective tendencies regarding Flayn from her perspective makes him out to be a hinderance on her ability to interact with others. But realistically, can you blame him? Seteth lost his beloved wife. He and Flayn are basically immortal and have been around for hundreds of years. In Genshin Impact, as Scaramouche condescends to the Traveler in Inazuma, he brings up a good point. *”Eternity Stretches Things Out Over a Long Time, But Each Moment Within it Becomes All The More Fragile.”* This can be applied to Seteth’s Relationship with his daughter. After being alive for so long and having lost his wife, his desire to keep Flayn safe especially after the Death Knight kidnapped her, only makes so much sense when you realize that she’s the only object of love and affection he has left. He’s such a good guy. That’s one of the reasons why I straight up CAN’T bring myself to do Crimson Flower, because you have to kill them or make them go into hiding just like they had been forced to do so before.
After a couple playthroughs, reading some wikis and seeing how this story rounds out and takes shape. This shit wild. Bernie support has so many references it’s so cool to see

(To me, it almost feels like leaving the dead to rest is honorable to him; almost as though he thinks it would be selfish to bring them back.)
They're both a little scary in their devotion, but to me, that's beautiful.
I didn't even expect to like this guy. Now I love him.
He's basically Snape
Crescenski but less edgy
From the moment he went "I don't trust you - _-" I was just like "I'm gonna marry him" (and that feeling just grew stronger when I met Flayn)
Crescenski The fact you think Seteth is anything like that greaseball Snape makes me nauseous.
@@yukijin3 both are my favorite characters ~🤣❤❤
Seteth straight up called Hilda out
I love that Support because you think it would just be Hilda getting lectured, but she pulls a reverse uno card and surprises him... while still ending up more industrious by the end of it thanks to his guidance.
“For the goddess sees ALL that we say and do...”
Wow, that line paired with the ominous music in the background is hilarious 😂
Also probably dragon humor, considering the Goddess is literally walking around the school.
I want an entire asmr series of mark reading stories in seteth's voice
I prefer Dio
Time to cry
Anyone: flirts with Flayn
Later: receives a letter
“Your life will end in 52 minutes”
-Seteth
I love how he gave him that much time to prepare for their death lol makes it even more frightening
Seteth is a good dad to the kids, but a savage when he needs to be
Little discipline goes a long way
@@kingsman5121 If only he was Rhea’s father. Every threat to Fodlan and its people would be utterly annihilated by now and the Church would be the best institution the continent had ever seen.
Is it just me or does this “Seteth” guy sounds a lot like Cichol... He even looks like him...
Pfft nah, nah! Why in all of Fodlan would you think that?
idk that sounds a bit farfetched
Just a coincidence
What are you going on about sir? The two share similarities, yes, but surely there's no connection beyond that....
Cichol was alive during the war of heroes, which happened in 91, over a thousand years out.
Dude Seteth literally has the more agreeable version of Edelgard's ideas. If they had a talk with each other instead of immediately trying to kill each other, maybe things would have gone differently
I wonder if things were different if they had a talk with each other.
@@darkmoon2503 I'd go with the latter sadly...

Kind of a shame he doesn't have a support with Ferdinand, considering his minor crest of Cichol
om3ga109 yeah I was kinda hoping for it too. But at the same time, he doesn’t have much connection to Ferdinand. To Seteth, Ferdinand is simply the ancestor of one of Seteth’s allies. It would make for an interesting conversation, though. Like Seteth could draw similarities to Ferdinand’s ancestor.
Honeyman
I wish there was more of Seteth interacting with the students in the supports. It's always wholesome to see him trying to guide them and being a role model to them. Makes me feel warm in my chest.
Seteth is easily my favourite character for this reason. All he wants is the best for his students - haven't even played Blue Lions yet but I LOVE his support with Felix so much. He reminds me of the pastor at my old high school when I was a boy. When I killed Flayn on the Black Eagles route, his reaction to her death made me cry. I am never killing this man and his daughter ever again - when I play the Eagles, they are being spared.
@@AJR-zg2py god his va pulled no stops for that line. It hurts me when i hear it.

Based on Bylass's "clothing" I guess that rules her out.
Also can we consider Ingrid "Quiet and proper"? Aint she like super loud, always correcting others and eats a lot?
@@janmarcoperezbatres2203 I guess she looks the part.
I think the amusing thing about that line is that none of Seteth's potential matches fit his ideal.
@@janmarcoperezbatres2203 Ingrid is proper. Eating a lot doesn’t mean you eat messily XD. She’s definitely not quiet though...
“If you hate all those whose beliefs are different from yours, you will hate everyone eventually” I can’t stress enough how much I love this line.
Seteth and Flayn are literally the only reasons to play the church route, hearing their dialogue and watching Seteth have a leading role like the 3 lords is incredible by itself
Seteth turning into a mind reader is something I never expected to see
His stats and growths certainly makes him feel like a lord, or maybe an Oifey? Either way, It's real nice to have him.

What a man
Total BDE too
I didn’t find him a jerk considering he seemed the most logical character initially. His skepticism makes sense cause imagine if a random dude went into the school and the principal (in this case rhea I guess) just hired them immediately. You’d be pretty skeptical too
haven't heard Seteth laugh yet. Amazing. Pretty great conversations with Bernie and Seteth, its quite fun to watch.
MCMarcuz23 //Marcuz Cedrick they have a paired ending where they get married its cute, and funny she doesnt know hes a saint...but i wonder if in like 10 years of marriage shes like...so why arent you aging?
@@Doors067 I'm now thinking of that Purple haired girl at Stardew Valley now that you say it. She had some dialogue after getting married with her when you aren't taking care of her, the lines of "did you marry me for my youth?" Or something. It's related bc age I guess
Seteth externally: I have to say, I never would have expected to be a reference model to Saint Cichol.
Seteth internally: *AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-*
Seteth is the most dad character in the entire game and that's why I love him.
Well considering he’s one of 2 playable father in the game(the other being gustave) and compared to that other father he’s a much better father it makes sense how much of a dad seteth is
Gilbert's another father but he went out to get milk and didn't come back
I believe Alois also has kids, you just don't see them

Can we just give a massive round of applause to Seteth's VA?! Especially in that S support?
Bernadetta is VERY close to seeing Seteth's true identity
BG9X3 they get married id like to think that after 20 years she figures out hes not a mortal
BG9X3 It’s like Lindhart with Flayn
This guy is the main reason I choose the church route.
That moment when marrying Seteth causes you to have a step daughter that is far older
AJ Hamster summoner flaynes the type of girl who will call seteths wife mommy on day one 😂
And adopt an entire army.
The C-support with Hilda is hilarious - dude's a straight-up gangsta calling her out.
I don't get why Seteth doesn't get a support with Ferdinand.
So I wasn't the only one thinking that! Why don't they????
Traveller281 Seteth has a strange connection to Ferdinand. Ferdinand is an ancestor to an ally that Cichol trusted with his blood. So Ferdinand is essentially just the distant descendant to an old friend of Seteth’s. Not much of a connection beyond that. It would be interesting if Ferdinand were similar to his ancestor, though. That would make for good conversation.
its probably because he has no empire supports
@Aidan Monner wouldnt he only be able to get that support from the church of serios route tho?
C I c h o l
I'm going to marry him in the Church route 😻
i never expected to like seteth as much as i do
Seteth: _HO HO, ARE YOU APPROACHING ME?_
Byleth: _I CAN'T KISS THE SHIT OUT OF YOU WITHOUT GETTING CLOSE!!!_
Seteth: _HO HO, THEN GET AS CLOSE AS YOU LIKE!!_
**Both flamboyantly strut towards each other**
I wish seteth and ferdinand had a support since they have the same crest. maybe Seteth wouldve remarked on ferdinands ancestor. They mustve been a dear friend or a very loyal soldier to Cichol for them to have his crest
Seteth: "im sure if you both lived in the same time im certain youd share a deep bond"
Oh boy..... he Barely kept his secret there Lmao, hes popping out clues that the poor bear of varley didnt pick up on..
Jocelyn Cordeiro please do the paralogue battle that involves seteth and flayne

Dude, Seteth is such a mood. And he’s so wise! He’s such a funny and nice guy. No wonder I went to S-Support him immediately.
Edit: the laugh at 8:34 brings me life.
I like how both Flayn and Seteth are sly indirect roasters.
I wish they had a Seteth and Cyril ending, I got a nice father and son vibes from their conversations. Like perhaps
Cyril with permission of Rhea decided to out on a journey to explore the world, journeying lands beyond Fodlan such as Dagda and his home country of Almyra.Years later though he encounters Seteth who is doing missionary work and he thanks him for giving him the courage to live for himself.
“He was, after all, the man who hid himself at the bottom of a lake.” One of my favorite lines, hands-down. I laughed for forever whenI first read it!
He sounds like he's about to ask me weather I get to the cloud district very often.
The woman in Manuela's memory problably was Rhea:P
May be a little aggravating at first, but a complete beast on the battlefield
To be fair though, you can't blame Setheth for not being on board with making Byleth a professor. Like, this is just a random mercenary who helped out some rich kids far as he's concern. All that they really know is that he has a sword, and is related to Jeralt. And Rhea wants to trust him with the education of the future leaders of Fódlan.
Yes, Rhea's reasons are eventually shown to be sound, but nobody knows said secret. Literally only Rhea knows why.
1:03:28 Hey Manuela your arms are missing.
Ah, rendering shortcuts
Why don't Seteth and Ferdinand have a support? They share the same crest...would be an interesting conversation.
That reminds me of how people share the Crest of Cethleann. Since that’s true, does this make Flayn a MILF?
Hanneman totally figured him out, he even went like "Ill let that slip go..."
Talk about a character who I didn’t expect anything from but I got so much more from.
Best dad in the game
Seteth, the Niles Crane of the Fire Emblem series.
Byleth'll outlive everyone besides Rhea, Seteth, and Flayn too
10:57 I like how poisonous he sounds here, Felix 100% knows how fanatical the church of Seiros is
He has such a nice laugh, the kind that warms you heart from hearing it.

Ok BUT WHEN HE TALKS ABOUT HIS WIFE 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
At first glance I thought he was an asshole, but after watching some of these supports, he’s really wholesome and gives great advice. 🥺
Seteth is one of my favorite characters in this game, funny how many of us quite disliked him at first lol
*”Eternity Stretches Things Out Over a Long Time, But Each Moment Within it Becomes All The More Fragile.”*
This can be applied to Seteth’s Relationship with his daughter.
