  • Welcome to the channel and this review of the Laminar Flow Design conversion set for the Spitfire Mk. XII. This set is just stunning and is ideal if you haven't done one of these conversions before as it will be simpler than the LFD Spitfire XIV conversion but will be no less stunning.

Disclosure: LFD sent me this set for review, I bought the MK.XIV conversion but Mathieu sent me this set.

As the age old saying goes, you can never have too many Spitfires!

Wow yet another Spitfire artisan from Belgium - having seen the One Man Army Stencils and now this whatever is next!

I was all up for one of these conversions then DBMK announced their MkXIV and Seafire mkxvii so I've decided to wait

You'll be waiting a long time and with all due respect to DBMK they won't get anywhere near Tamiya quality!

Yes, the 3D printed parts really do look nice and you have previously explained your position on expense, quality and value in kits. I would respectfully make the point that the shipped price of the conversion is approximately equal (from where I am located) to the shipped price of the Tamiya donor kit and that the builder/converter will be forgoing a detailed Merlin in the Mk. IX kit for an empty Griffon nose in the conversion. I guess you must *really* want a 1/32 Mk. XII, but again, beautifully printed.

I'm more than happy to bin the Merlin, I don't usually like exposed engines which is why I'm pleased that Kotare didn't include one. It's a shame that postage is so expensive where you are, but as I have said before, if you want one, and are prepared to pay for it then get it, if you can't afford it then that's a shame, I can't afford a new Aston Martin!

I am really looking forward to this project. I really like the Griffon engined Spitfires.

Looks a great set, with inventive ideas too! Nice. I have done plenty of resin AM, but not a 'kit-bash' of AM to change a kit. Gonna have to consider it one day... Thx for the review Jamie.

I have just finished the Mk14 conversion last month. They are amazing and so easy to fit (with experience) I look forward to seeing what you do with this one mate.

Those mask are nice but that vinyl will shrink over time.
