    I’m on my third Burgy 650. Best touring bike I’ve ever ridden. You said it all. Fast, comfortable, practical, efficient. I still look at other bikes. Sit on them. Test ride them. Then when I’m done, I just shake my head. Burgman beats them all. Great review. Thanks.

    I owned an early Burger 650 at the same time as a K1100LT and swear that it was the better tourer. It's sad that it's still referred to as a 'scooter' with all the emotive, prejudicial baggage that the word implies. It's a tourer and a blooming good one at that. Very comfy, extremely practical, good handling, fast... and to my eyes handsome too. In fact I fancy another one to go with my other bikes but I'd probably end up riding it all of the time.
    Those who haven't tried one simply because it's a 'scooter' are missing out IMHO.

      650 Burgy is surely far more powerful, out the box, than I ever expected. I have to be reminded that I'm riding a scooter... when sportbikes and 6-8 cylinder cars, get tired of being outrun. :)

      You almost never see maxi scoots across the pond (49cc are pretty common in cities since you only need a car license), and when you do it's usually a 50-250cc one (mostly used Honda CN250 Helix, often with no bike license or plate anyways since cops can't tell the difference). When you do find a big one like a Burgman 650 or Honda Silver Wing, and they have a hilarious tendency to confuse the hell out of everyone since they're often in the passing lane doing 90 as if they were baby Gold Wings. Spoiler, that's exactly what these 600+cc scoots are, and it's all so wonderful and hilarious!

      Don’t worry about being ignored by the BMW yuppies! There just ignorant snobs with just to much money to burn on a motorbike! The Burgman is. A Wolf in sheep’s clothing, nothing better on the Road, like you say once you get on it you won’t want to get off it and I can assure you will do twice the amount of miles on it than on a Bike! I have had 4 still have my late 17 model , enjoy your bike!!!

      The Burgman 650 is not really scooter like others with engine on the back wheel. Burgman 650 has engine in the front therefore it handles like motorbike. It has motorbike stability and weight is like Honda Varadero 1000. Technically it’s not scooter but motorbike.

    I'm 66, ridden bikes since I was 16, and have never owned a car, nor ever wanted to. Among the many bikes I've owned, I've had 2 400 Burgys, and for the last 5 years, I've owned the 650, which I bought new in 2013. I also bought a brand new Triumph T-Bird Storm the same year, and I love both bikes for different reasons. The T-Bird is ridden occasionally when the weather is nice, but the big Burgy is used virtually every single day, in all weathers, except snow. It's so bloody practical, especially since I removed the pillion rest, and put a top box in it's place. My other-half loves it, and seems to manage to get half of Tesco's stock loaded in it. ; ). We've travelled to Cornwall and back, and visited many other places, as well as using it for everyday journeys. My only complaint, is the same as you found. The bloody suspension. The front mainly. It's far, far too harsh, especially on our crap pot-holed roads. While I was watching your vid, I was thinking "He's got to notice the crap suspension", and you did, so it isn't me, it really is crap. I'm now looking to have a 'plusher' suspension set up, and I'm looking around the net to decide what to do. Great review, and with my fair few years as a Burgy rider, I have to say that it was pretty much 'spot on'. Great stuff.

    I ride a pearl white 2012 Burgman 650 Executive. I love it. I've ridden it all over the western US and it is definitely a touring capable machine. I've even heard some here refer to it as the "Baby Goldwing". Personally I like the looks. My model is the last year of the older body style and I think it looks better (minus the mirrors which look better on the newer model). It does higher speeds with ease, although the fuel economy goes down a little at speeds over 60 mph.
    One more thing: I've always wanted to ride a bike in the UK. Thanks for giving us in other countries the chance to ride vicariously on a variety of UK roads & even a motorway there. I really enjoyed the "experience".

    Nice review, in terms of content, technical quality, and editing.
    I've owned two 650 Burgmen, a 2007 model (from 2007-2012) and a 2008 model (2016-present). Before the 2007 came a BMW R850R for three years, a Valkyrie Interstate for seven years. In between the two Big Burgers was a Victory Cross Country Tour for five years. Point is, I think I have pretty good basis for comparing the scooters to, um, what some would call "real" motorcycles.
    Here are some points not covered, and alluded to in some of the comments ...
    Real top speed (assorted GPSs or phone-based GPS apps, straight line, level, etc.) is about 101MPH. This is for both the 2007 and 2008 models. Factory speedos on both are about 9.2% optimistic. BTW, 101 is the same top speed the US mag Motorcycle Consumer News measured (via radar gun) in their initial test (2005, I think it was). Straight line stability is fine at that speed, but I wouldn't do sweepers at more than, say, 90. I've done two "non-sportbike" track days on the 2008 model now.
    Ground clearance is pretty good, before any bodywork or -- especially -- the centerstand feet start touching down. Not sportbike lean angle, but better than, say, your average cruiser.
    The engine on this biggest Burger is rigidly affixed to the frame, up front, just like on a proper bike. The smaller Burgers (and other non-maxi scooters) have the engine on the swingarm, affecting unsprung weight. Not an issue here. And it's a fine engine: DOHC, four-valves per cylinder, pretty smooth, reasonably powerful.
    And I'd agree that the suspension is low-budget. With a 15" front and 14" rear, while stability isn't an issue, yep, the combination of pot holes and small wheels is an argument for top-shelf components here.
    The Manual mode is not much use, except for perhaps dropping the revs slightly when set in its highest pretend gear, when riding for hours on the Interstates ("motorways").
    Speaking of droning, I feel a major shortcoming is the lack of a factory cruise control. The latest TMAX, DX model, has one. Neither the Burger nor its BMW equivalents come with one, standard or optional. Alas, Yamaha has not imported the TMAX to the USA lately, and if it has plans to resume importation, it has not let the public in on them.
    And speaking of touring, to my mind that's how you should look at one: a mildly sporty tourer. Sort of a Gold Wing light. If you look at in that vein -- storage (and you can always add a top box), weather protection, electric windshield -- I don't think it's overly expensive. Yes, you can get a lot of bikes for the same or less money, but they generally will be more focused; put another way, less utility. You can also spend a lot more: that Victory XCT had a list price more than twice the Burger's, and we all know that large touring bikes can approach (or even surpass) USD 30K. So, the money's a relative thing.
    I've test-ridden an earlier TMAX and a recent model of the BMW 650 (the touring version of its two scooters). I think we're talking 15/15 wheels on those brands, vs. the 15/14 on the Burger. The Beemer has a remarkably long reach to the ground, and nothing particularly to recommend it over the Big Burger, in my opinion. There are a couple of RUclips videos comparing the BMW and Burger, so check them out. The TMAX is lighter and a bit sportier, and I'd really like to see if I can stretch out on the latest models (but I've have to do that across the pond, I guess).
    Last, speaking of stretching, not having to keep your feet in any given position -- they're not doing anything, either side -- is really conducive to long rides. And as the review notes, unless you're really tall, you can stretch out quite a bit.
    Bottom line, in my opinion: a useful and fun bike, which is why I found myself going back to one, after a five-year absence, and having pretty thoroughly sampled other motorcycles.

    I'm a 55 year old biker / scooter rider who is now on the pendulum towards the scooter side. I just feel right. I don't feel nervous on a scooter like I do on my 1300cc bike because I worry about texting drivers, and scooters are just so nimble, FAST, and easy to maneuver. You are using very descriptive, easy to understand ideas. I agree that at a stop light it feels no heavier than a bicycle.

    A fair review Sir, and I've subscribed to see your 'long' term review.
    About 2 years ago, I bought a 2014 Burgman 650. As you can see from my Avatar I'm a rufty tufty V Strom owner (currently 3 in the garage) which I ride very hard, and have done many happy trips.
    Every bike show, I kept looking and wondering if there's a way (I'm in my 60's now) of justifying a scooter.. I always loved Vespas and Lambos as a kid.
    Decided I wanted the Burgman. So here's how to buy and the reality of its abilities.
    Ebay: I watched and waited. Eventually the one came up. 2 years old, 500 miles only, one owner. Very cheeky bid and mine for £5000. OK, slight issue was it was way north in Scotland, and I live in Kent. No worries. 6am train, up there by 3pm, riding away by 4. First time ever on a big scoot. 520 miles later (Inc heavy rain) I'm home at midnight, giggling with the fun ride I'd just had.
    Next day rode to Cadwell BSB on it - only scooter in the park hehe. Next trip on it was Assen BSB, brilliant bike for Dutch roads.
    the mods I've done are satnav mount on front brake cylinder, and added big fat givi topbox. So have over 100 litres of storage and can still filter! The one other mod is an even bigger (givi again) screen with additional bulldog clip (for Channel tunnel boarding docket!).
    Now its my ICBM.
    Just done a long weekender down to Vosges with Bro (brand new Vstrom 1000) and our mate on his Triumph 1200. Curvy routes selected at all times meant we were up and down the mountain hairpins all the time. Yes it does scrape a lot, but so do Vstroms. Mpg was above 60 on average, filling up around 150 miles. My bro repeatedly commented on how comfortable I looked - he is right!
    I consider the Burgman to be my 'best' bike (means I wash it, and only use for long trips, and will not take it off road).
    To use mangle the 'pink' adage : don't knock it 'til you've tried it, dearie.

    Just bought a 650 executive with ABS for 900 euro’s. The first ten seconds i drove it, i knew it. I was never going back to a normal bike. I am very impressed by this BIG scooter.

    Just a few points. The suspension is adjustable.It comes set at 2 from the dealer . The power button really works Im surprised you couldn't feel the difference. You never mentioned the handbrake which is useful when parking it on a hill.The total storage with top box is 75 litres . The new Goldwing has only 90 . The 650 Burgman is really a motorcycle with a scooter body . Im going to Berlin on mine later in the week.I bought a Goldwing two years ago ,rode to Italy and back . Returned it to the dealer and bought my Burgman back Regards Peter. PS Its not too much money

    Thanks for this review. I bought my first scooter in April a Forza 300 and after getting over my own prejudice the more I ride it the better it is. I use it to get to work in all weathers and it excels at this. Surprises a lot of bikes & cars off the line as you just pin it and off she goes. Oh and the 80mpg makes me smile.

    Just toured up around the amazing roads of Scotland on my little XMax 300, was great and handled all the roads I could throw at it, and I could get about 230 miles out of the little 13Ltr tank. Not sure I’d need much more, maybe a little more power. Main downside to scooters seems to be the suspension rattling a bit over severe bumps. I don’t care what I look like in the eyes of others.

    Great review TMF as always!
    I have owned 3 Burgman 650’s and I love em!
    Owned very sort of bike from cruisers to Superbikes, from super moto to scooters and Maxi-scooters are up at the top of the list of favourite bikes.
    Just a few points about the Burgervan (as they are affectionately called)
    The power button is not needed as much as on older Burgman.
    The Burgervan has an E-CVT transmission that differs from normal CVT where a ECU controls the position of the belt.
    This is why it has a ‘Manual’ gear mode (this is useless because the computer can change gearing far faster than a human!)
    The final drive is also different from any other bike I know in that it is gear driven.
    There is a row of gears that transfer the drive.
    The other security measure the Burgman has is a metal shutter that closes over the keyhole.
    You use the rear of the key to turn the shutter down.

      Had over 50 bikes in all categories as well and Maxis have covered more miles than any of the others simply because the're so good. Expensive? not for miles per pound but obviously don't appeal to the toy biker brigade!

    If Suzuki ever decide to do a 1000cc Burgman, I'd trade my old FJR 1300 tomorrow. Perfect bike for when one is getting a bit old and err arthritic.

      I think that they have done well with the 650, a 1000cc version might be more put you into big trouble and loose the rear end, that’s the last thing I’d want as the 650 can do over the ton with very very little effort, I’ve had mine over 3 years and the only thing I’d change for my would be the colour, that I have a metallic grey one , if they have a majorly improved version then I might change but until then I’ll keep this one. Enjoy

    I tested one when l worked on a Suzuki shop years ago...same for me...great fun riding around on it...personally l think this would be a very good touring bike...comfy as a gold wing, cooler and 1/3 of the price...when you get home you can filter your way to work...

    I love my 2006 Suzuki Burgman 650. Looking forward for the 2020 or so while I use the current 2006. I commute 140 miles a day and it is so comfortable.

    I have a 2013 Burgman 650 with now about 25,000 miles on it. I use it for work commuting 60 miles round trip in Houston, TX. I sold my Yamaha cruiser to get this bike. It is certainly not sexy but it is the perfect commuter bike in my opinion. First of all, CVT transmission with no clutch to worry about is awesome when you are in stop and go traffic. The engine is completely enclosed underneath you so you don't get roasted by the engine heat when riding in the summer. This scooter provides significantly more weather protection than a standard motorcycle. I did upgrade the windscreen for even more protection. The weakest part of the bike is the suspension. The forks were so bad that I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade them with an Andreani cartridge kit. My forks now have separate compression and rebound adjustments and are significantly better. I highly recommend this bike.

    By just toggling buttons on the handlebars, you can choose three distinct transmission modes: two fully automatic modes (Drive and Power) and Manual. Drive mode heightens efficiency at normal road speeds and gives smooth, linear, almost shock-free power delivery for easy riding. Power mode gives more punch when you twist the throttle. And Manual mode lets you thumb-toggle between five preset gear ratios for a unique feeling of control. (From Suzuki website)

    Maxi scooters make me think of the saying about safety gear ... “the best safety gear is the stuff you are wearing when you have an accident”. In other words regardless of what it’s designed to do, its useless if you don’t have it on when you need it.
    Adapting that “the best bike is the one you ride the most” and arguably maxi scooters end up being that - you can use them in town, for long trips, when you need storage, when it rains, when it’s cold, you can ride two up, commute on it etc.
    I’ve always had sports bikes previously and would only ride them on sunny weekends - i now have one of these, fitted cruise control and navigation and ride it 2 or 3 days per week. I commute into town on it with work gear and a change of clothes under the seat and have put 200miles+ on it in a day just moving between appointments.
    I could never do that on a cbr600 without panniers and getting cold, wet, uncomfortable and ultimately wishing I’d taken the car. On a maxi scooter I just don’t think about it.
    Not cool, not sexy, no knee down, no pretending to be Rossi in the corners but comfortable, dry, useful, capable, fast and fun. It’s the bike that I’d take in the most circumstances and ultimately put the most miles on.
    So if the best bike you own is the one you actually ride the most - this is easily the best bike you can own.

    My neighbour had a couple of these over a number of years as well as other ‘proper’ bikes. He called it his second car. He gave me a lift once to our local Kop Hill Climb and I can confirm that it is indeed comfortable on the back and still went ok. I believe he toured Scotland on it too! Another great review TMF.

    I have a 2008 model it know Done 50,000 miles and still keep on going strong. I like the new one but if you like the Burgman 650 look for the older model save money

    Scoots are great,
    I've been riding bikes for over 30 years,
    I switched to scooters 5 years ago it was the best thing I ever did,
    I have a Citystar 200 and a yamaha majesty s 125,
    Both have 4 valve liquid cooled engines, and have no problem on duel carage ways and motorways,

    Most of the time I leave the Honda Interceptor in the garage and I hop on the Burgman. I quickly got used to the quiet ride and the auto transmission. I was very surprised at how quick it is. Nobody beats me when the light turns green. I'm not racing, merely keeping ahead of traffic. The point is, no worries about your "scooter" holding up traffic. You will be long gone.

    I love your review. I have had my 2018 for the last 1k miles. I have been fiddling around to see how maneuverable it is on short turns and U turns. It is like a beluga whale as you describe it but fun and comfortable on long drives. Thank you my youtube friend.

    Another great review! thanks I I did consider one of these, but thought of how hot the big seat would become when parked at the shops in Australia … makers should make a bigger "foot" on the side stands of most bikes as they cut through boiling hot bitumen like a stiletto heel in our climate....       TheMissendenFlyer serious question through. Am looking at possible one of the NC 750s for my 80 round trip commute to London. Would you say as a daily a scooter beats the adventure style? Would be my only bike so would still need something I would be able to do a bit of light touring on at weekends. I do like the XAdv but a bit out of budget sadly.

    It's my knees that start complaining after a few hours of motorway, the ability to safely stretch out and also get good lumbar support does make this somewhat enticing. Another bike to get great value out of - despite the asking price - and be fond of owning rather than loving it. Great review.

    There are aftermarket suspension upgrades for the Burgman. ::: Nothing like a white fairing, dayglow jacket and a white helmet for scaring the shit out of speeding car drivers. On the motorway clears the road in front of you like Moses at the Red Sea. ::: Storage is excellent. ::: Considering the spec and allowing for inflation, the price isn't that far off the sadly discontinued Honda Deauville, which is it's nearest true motorcycle equivalent I can think of. ::: Great review as ever. Look forward to hearing more about the bike in the future.

      TMF: If I went back into motorcycle couriering, with all that built-in storage, able to handle distance at speed and comfort, plus easy in-town use, I'd seriously consider one of these. With a few mods it could be made for the job.

      I own a white 2012 one. And I have a white helmet--with a boom microphone. And a dayglow jacket and a big mustache too, much like motorcycle cops here in the USA. And yes, I've had cars get out of my way on the freeway.

    A few years ago, on a French campsite, I got chatting to a senior couple with a big motorhome and a 650 Burgman racked on the back. they reckoned it was "the best of both worlds" for them, since they retired from Gold Wing touring.

    Here in Canada, a perfectly good “preowned” Burgman can be picked up for less than half the price a new one. As a veteran motorcycle rider, my problem is the tendency to over compensate. Regardless as to their “natural habitat” the overwhelming urge (for me) is to prove “I can do anything you can do and do it better” which, of course, isn’t the best attitude. All that aside, it is a great chunk o’ machinery.

    Commuted on a B650 for a couple of years. Enjoyed it. Great weather protection and amazing practicality with the storage. Have to agree on the crashy suspension - the only thing I didn't like (except my neighbor telling me this was a motorcycle for men who sit down to pee).

    Another great review. I have an 07 version. The best touring bike I have ever owned. The reason it pulls so well is because it isn't CVT. It has five speed auto gear box with manual override. I have surprised a few "proper" bikes on mine. I look forward to your long term review when you've been riding it for longer. The balance is so good that I can pull up at a give way line, look both ways and set off again without putting my feet down.

      mitchell nix Not quite correct ; it is CVT , the “manual “ mode steps it through six preset ratios , that’s why when TMF was riding in “drive “ there were no steps , just a constant engine note and rising speed.

      maninthecab . nope, sorry but according to Suzuki it is an auto gear box. Look at a cutaway diagram of the gear box at the back. No belt but a series of interconnected gear cogs.

      mitchell nix Just looked on Suzuki’s website and it describes it as SECVT and clearly shows the cvt belt system , with a gear train final drive from the cvt to the rear wheel and some from the engine to the cvt which , again , is clearly visible.

      maninthecab Do you own and ride one? I can assure you that opening the throttle gives a positive and instant gear step down and far better acceleration than any ordinary CVT scooter. Having owned a 250 burgman, two 400 Yamaha Majesty's and the 650 burgman I know the difference in how they ride and drive

    I am also looking forward to your long term review. I did short test rides yesterday on a 2013 BMW C600 Sport and a 2011 Burgman Executive. I liked them both. The BMW was handsomer with a very good cockpit. The engine was a bit noisier than I expected. I hadn’t planned on riding the Burgman but the seller had it ready when I returned. I was surprised by the smooth and turbine-like engine. I didn’t care for the rather fat back end of the Burgman. Prices used obviously vary. 2013 BMW Sport C600, 8,700 miles, excellent condition: $4900. 2011 Suzuki Burgman Executive 650, 31,000 miles, excellent condition: $4500. I know I would like the extra carrying capacity (groceries mostly) but am still having trouble getting past the scooter image. My current bikes: 2009 Bonneville, 2005 Buell XB9 and a 1965 Honda CA200. Tomorrow, I will look at a Honda Silver Wing. Darn alligator is swimming about. First time I have seen him in weeks.

      Jeff, thx for comparisons. Interesting to see used prices currently. As typical American, living in Euro, 15 yrs, I got over the "scooter image" as EVERYONE drives them there. Here in Maine, of all places, I have a 2008 Burg 400 I bought for $2400, 6300 miles, perfect. The 400 is great! Very cool and different. Old neighbor, thru some miracle, has an '09 Burg 650 Executive, 3200 miles, perfect, new, white. $4000. I can tell you this as I now own both..., the 400 is wonderful, easy to work on, fast enough for 2 up, holds a ton of stuff, crazy storage, easy to handle in garage. The 650.., is on a totally different level, forget stupid post about useless "manuel" mode. It is a blast !!! 6 speeds at a press of a button, far faster than a clutch gear change, you control the revs always. Really fun in "twistes". This 650 is fast. At 80mph, in 6th, it is turning 4000rpms.., loafing along. NOBODY ever mentions this 6th gear, Amazing transmission. Trust me.

    I wouldn't say that £10k was expensive for what you get and what the bike can do. (think obsolete parts bin special Ducati Desert Sled for £10k) The Yamaha T-Max 530 is more sporty and around 50kg lighter, plus the engine/transmission unit is frame mounted (like a bike) rather than part of the swingarm which massively reduces it's unsprung weight improving ride and handling. (T-Max has a belt final drive) We had one on Majorca for week and it was brilliant, both on the (only) motorway but also in the twisties, of which there are plenty on the island. Big scooters are great real-world bikes, and you can easily tour, without needing panniers! Throw your (large) bag under the seat and you're off.

    Had two of these 650 Burgman's. They can really munch the miles but I totally agree about the suspension. They are surprisingly heavy at around 270kg which is not dissimilar to a BMW R1200RT. On the open road it looses that weight but at the same time it dulls the acceleration slightly. Been looking for a touring bike for some time and after this review I might well consider it. I have never ridden one of these two up so I would be interested to get anyone's view. My conclusion is, decent bike which can do most things any genuine tourer can, plus they are ultra reliable and easy to live with.

      Years later reply but if it helps. With my wife and I together I could not discern any difference in acceleration, the benefit of the CVT transmission. The other advantage was that she could get in and slide back to her seat and I would just get on and off we would go. She just could not get on a cruiser with bags and a trunk. With the B650 there wasn’t a need for either the underseat storage being so commodious. Great scoot.

    Great review. I always look forward to seeing notifications of your vids. I’ve been interested in Burgmans for a while. I have a ‘traditional bike’ but Like you say, scooters often have such a bad image in this country, attracting the disdain of ‘real bikers’ but I think sod that...so practical, easy to ride, I wonder if they will become more popular in this country in the future with ever rising fuel prices/parking issues etc. Would you consider testing the 400 one day? Be great to hear your thoughts on the comparison between the two. Look forward to the long term review. Keep up the good work.

    I am looking at a Suzuki Burgman 400 as a first bike. It seems the most comfortable option for me. I am planning at some point in the future to use it to do small and maybe longer tours and carry a passenger. It seems that your videos, as informative and beautifully presented as they are, don’t approach the subject of riding 2 up ( except for the one with your daughter that looked at one particular bike). It would be great to have your views if you have any experiences in this area. Thanks

    I've heard in other reviews that in manual drive mode there's a 6th gear available a kind of overdrive ?

      True. When touring and I reach cruising speed (over 90kph), I shift to manual (that'll be 5th gear) and then flick the tip-tronic on one more to 6th. She then lopes along, easily maintaining 110kph + on most grades. When I do encounter a steep hill, just tap it back to 5th and re-engage 6th when things flatten out again. Very smooth, very quiet and let's face it even more economical with the gas!

      Yes. I find 6th gear noticeably smoother when maintaining speeds you're talking about. Does away with any hint of vibration.

    I owned two Honda scooters (the 250 Foresight, and the 600 Silver Wing) after several years using a number of "proper" motorcycles. I wanted the scooters for daily commuting to work, and found that doing so in all weathers, whether in winter or summer in the UK, I had no need to wear anything over my work clothes (basically a suit and tie) except rainproof jacket and over-trousers, and in very cold conditions a bodywarmer gilet (which in the USA I think you call a vest). I didn't even need to change out of my smart shoes. Probably not ideal from a safety standpoint, but very convenient for working, and I had no tumbles in 5 years. On these scooter reviews I think TMF should try them out on twisties, which are roads for which they are not ideal due to the small wheels and limited suspension. Compared with a motorcycle, that is their only weak spot, especially on slippery roads because you do not get the same feedback from the tyres as you do on a bike. The ability to park your helmet along with the scooter was another major advantage, as was the space under the seat to take home shopping, work files etc.

    Great review as always. I would love one as a second bike for shopping or when the weather is bad but at that price i just couldn't. The high VAT in this country must really affect bike sales, we need more bikes and less cars for so many reasons. I hope you read this Teresa May. I am sure she is a TMF fan so she will 😂

    Forgot to say that it's a bit low in gearing for a single person. That means it changes at low speeds but that is good for economy as its can give something like 70 mpg [ UK gallon] in warm weather and riding moderately at say 50 ish. It does better through the gears when two up as that balances out the lower changes which are generally necessary two up with luggage. That said it always responds brilliantly to the throttle no matter what gear or what speed its being ridden at. She handles brilliantly even though there is nothing for the legs to grab onto. She looks like a scooter but behaves like a full blown motorcycle.

      Well, one is a fat sumo with a butt that will never fit in a pair of slim fit Diesel jeans, but loves to cruise along the street effortlessly. The other one is a light, nimble, super model that looks gorgeous with its skinny hips and lithe frame and skips along with a smile on its face.

    A good review that.
    Started out my biking on the Burgman 125, one of the biggest scooters for a 125 besides the Yamaha. One thing I noticed with the one you're reviewing here is that the 650 doesn't seem to have a hand break? Lol, the 125 version had a handbreak which were just a cable operated lever under the horn button. Cracking bikes though I have to say ^^

    That's a good review.
    I have borrowed one of these while having my Suzuki V-Strom serviced.
    They are easy to ride, aren't they.
    I didn't do much filtering on the one I borrowed, but I have seen some people filtering on these as though they are on a 150.
    Might, that is MIGHT, go for one if I don't get pulled to the dark-side (Kymco AK550 from Taiwan) in the event i swap my V-strom for a scoot.

    I'n considering this, and a big part of the reason I am, despite being a bike orientated person, is the storage. I spot two design errors though : Since not going to have any passenger, I think that pillion is simply in the way of where I'd like to put a large seat top box (with this already huge wheelbase, you certainly don't want it attached to the rear of the scoot), and second, they made a huge error in having the seat lift up from the rear, instead of the front - this would mean in reality one would either forego the under seat storage, or have to remove such top box every time you wanted to use it.

    Good review TMF. I had mine for 5 years and mostly agree with you. The power button is pretty useless as you said. I found the brakes to need quite a hard tug to be effective and to bring the bike to a stop. I found the fuel range to be quite disappointing, either due to small tank or the bike not being that economical. But the luggage you can carry under the seat is phenomenal and as you said it’s super comfortable and practical. I liked my Burger but now have a VStrom 650. Looking forward to hear how you get on with it after a few weeks.

    Have ride a scooter for one and a half year. Quite handy, no backpack, no helmet in your hand, but missed the rush of dropping down and warp out. Back again to a proper bike and the old back pack for carrying stuff. Nothing again scooters, they are great commuters, but they're were designed for non bikers. During my scooter life never had the need for riding on a Sunday morning when my family is still in bed, now I don't miss one!

    O K. About 14 years ago the CB1300 I had went into a Honda Dealer for a service ,the courtesy bike they gave me was a Honda 600 Silver Wing scooter.
    What a hoon ... A 100 MPH scooter, lots of storage ,the only negative I found was that the seat had a small back rest but not enough room on the seat for me to move around to get comfortable as I am 6 foot tall.
    A quick question for you..I now have a 2015 MV Agusta 800 RR it has had the sprag clutch replaced at 2000 miles( A known weakness).I am thinking that the NewTriumph Speed Triple SE might be more robust & suitable for long term ownership & still give the 3 cylinder Buzz I'm looking for . As you know more about Triumphs than I do can you please give me your impressions on that bike...

    Watching some old stuff and happened upon this. Scooters are ace. I rode a Vespa GTS 250 from Manchester to Croatia. Never missed a best except being a bit twitchy when riding over the alps in the pissing rain.

    Had a Burgman 400 a few years ago there was a re-call on this bike for the altenator major issue was draining the battery and the bike could cut out to dead this happened to me battery fully flat would not start you could imagine what issue you could have is this happens on a dual carriageway or a motorway I had to replace it, apart from that nice automatic bike have a ST1300 now

    Handle heater, seat heater and pillion back rest is comes with "Executive" option. They are not standart on Burgman 650.

      Hmm lower I think - Scooters have their place but I'm a motorbike enthusiast/hobbyist, I ride for fun not for transport (I use a car for that)......these scoots are great practical machines, I don't need one of those!

    Thanks for this review. I recently purchased a 400 and I amazed at its performance. Comfortable, economical great to ride, I love it. It compliments my Honda VT 750RS
