Thank you for the VERY helpful video! I had already purchased the unit and was searching for the right tutorial! Beside the time it took to watch your video, I was able to complete installing the new unit and replace the dash piece in less than 5 minutes! Thanks again for keeping it simple and informative!
Great video. I have a 2001 GMC Sierra with a slightly different issue...I have no back lighting on my door switches. All fuses seem good and I cant seem to get them to work. Do you know if this switch controls these as well? Thanks.
If the door switch works but is not backlit, it is a matter of failed led lights within the switch, not a fuse. I suggest picking up a door switch assembly from a junk yard and swapping it out. Good luck.
@@OldGuyDIY Appreciate the response. I thought about that as well but I just replaced the mirror switch as it was not working and it also has no backlighting and it's brand new.
As I recall, there are three electrical plugs that go into the driver door switch control; heated seats, mirror control and door locks/windows. Based on your experience after replacing the mirror switch, I suspect there is an issue with the solder for the light circuit on the window switch circuit board. I am not interested in troubleshooting circuit boards personally so if it were mine, I would buy a driver's door switch from the local junk yard. In situations like this, my go to junkyard, LKQ in Grand Rapids, MI, allows to me to take a part from one of their vehicles, walk out to my truck, plug the driver's door switch assembly into my truck and see if it fixes the problem. If it is the answer, I go back in and pay them. If it is not the answer, I take the part back out to the yard and place it on the dashboard of the vehicle it came from. Good luck.
Yeah I have the same problem, going to replace the whole thing also. By the way I'm also an "Old Guy" but I still love my 1970 GMC truck, much easier to work on Thanks :)
I doubt it. When a switch fails, it normally fails in the open position, so current will not flow through it. I would check any aftermarket items you may have like a stereo to ensure they are closed off and push the button to shut the dome lights off and ensure all of the doors are closed. Did you check the battery with a multi meter to ensure the voltage runs from 12.7 to about 13.9v when the car is running, to ensure your alternator is good? Good luck.

You are welcome. Thank you for watching and commenting.
I had the same problem on my 2002 Denali thought it was a sensor and the fuses but after I put the dimmer switch in it it worked. Thank you
this is my exact issue in my 2002 Burb. Thank you so much for filming this!
You are welcome.
Thanks! Just switched company vehicles and it's doing exact same thing thing!

May be a dumb question, but do I need to disconnect the battery to do any of this? Checking the fuse, disconnecting the wires and reconnecting?
I didn't. You may choose to but I don't believe you need to.
My dimmer light only works for dome lights but it don't work for when I turn on lights for the dash light
It sounds like time to replace the switch.
Im about to order one none of the dash lights work ill edit if it goes well
Thank you SO much!!!!

Can a bad switch make my Tahoe die over night?
