How did the Dragon march and then turn 180°? He can only wheel as part of the march. So 20" movement minus howevermuch he needs to wheel 180°. If he were on the correct base size this would further "reduce" his movement. Bigger base = bigger wheel = less movement.

@@Road.To.Reikland agreed. But you can’t wheel backwards and then shuffle sideways. 124 says wheel is ‘forwards’ and p.125 explains the backwards and sideways stuff. Last thing regarding the rear charge of the silver helms on to the ironguts: see the incomplete rank rule of p. 158. From what I understand, you would have had 4 ironguts in contact, not 2.
@@BearfootMiniatures The way I understand it, you don't move anyone (except for the make way) but the incomplete rank is considered to be as full as the rank (or file) behind it.
Don't know if you have any Skaven players kicking about, but I would love to see them in some old world! Dark Elves or Lizardmen would also be great! Honestly though, just keep the Old World coming!
I was just painting with the local Skaven player yesterday: he’s got 1999pts left to the full army haha Hopefully can find one with a completed army soon!
Enchantment spells need the target to be within the caster's arc. For example you couldn't cast troll gut on the ironguts with the butcher. Additionally you cannot do a wizard dispell with a wizard who is in combat.
@@BearfootMiniaturesnoticed a few little bits where you’d measure your maximum move distance. Move your unit the max but not account for the little bits of wheeling you’d need for where they end up! Great spirit of the game and some nice flavour throughout though :) appreciate it’s tricky playing new armies, new rules, being on camera and teaching a new player!!
I don't think you can wheel while moving backwards (27:13). The rulebook says you can't perform more than one maneuver during movement, and both Move Backwards and Wheel are maneuvers.
And Close Order is cumulative so in the combat with the Swordmasters, Ogres, and Dragon, the High Elves would have had +2 for close order, and I don't know if you counted the +2 for the dragon's rear charge.
your right on the wheeling noted for next time (was in 6th edition mode with brain fry I think) 100% hadnt realised that close order counted multiple times! That's massive! I think we counted 2 for the rear though I cant say 100% (I let rich count his own and with filming was just going with what he said, ill be vigilant next time to make sure he doesnt get cheated of res!)
@@BearfootMiniatures Yeah, absolutely. Lots of great crunchy rules like that in this edition that really make you think about your tactical decisions. Keep up the Battle Reports, can't wait to see more!
Double charge of the gorger against both bolt throwers wasn't legal, you can only do that if you have no choice but to contact both units (ie a wide unit).
Your right: I was thinking along the lines of if i make accidental contact (as wed both be maximised anyway I could do it, but your right its only if that situation is unavoidable! More gorgers needed!
hey mate: the rule says "may make supporting attacks to the flank and to the rear, as well as too the front" we were reading that as to the flank and too the rear as well as the font normally: dont know if thats right but seems odd to not say "fight in an additional rank to the front side and rear" if the intention was to fight 3 ranks
@@BearfootMiniatures no no, you’re completely right. Martial prowess doesn’t allow an extra rank to fight, just that you get support attacks to the rear and flanks. That’s just left over logic from old Helfs. My bad for sure.
They get "Fight in Extra Rank" from the ceremonial halberds per the Armoury of Ulthuan, so would get supporting attack to the front, and martial prowess will give supporting attacks to the flank and rear.
tbh mate definately a thing we hadnt clocked, mages out of units for sure i think, as them adding to the units size vs being a skirmisher within 3 is too harsh
The Phoenix guard combat they would have caught the cannon. You were not lined up proper on the lead belchers and the bases of the Phoenix guard would have touched the fleeing cannon and thus destroyed it.
Hey mate, they were in the front arc (wed actually premeasured to make sure when i was moving my guts, so it was as tight as i could make it to keep them facing the way i wanted in future turns - towards that spear block of a lot of unit strength!)
ruclips.net/video/2i2d3NbQcpY/видео.html Wizard can't cast "Shield of Saphery" on the swordmasters, because they aren't in his vision arc. p.108 Choosing A Target Unless stated otherwise, the following rules apply when choosing a target: • The target must lie within the Wizard’s vision arc, but the Wizard does not need a line of sight to the target. ruclips.net/video/2i2d3NbQcpY/видео.html p.127 The swordmasters would have gone in the flank.... I think. Hard to be sure from the camera-angle but it looks like more of the unit is in the flank are than the front arc. Like the batreps and the relaxed atmosphere. Keep it up! :)
Yep, 100% that's a flank charge. Perspective doesn't change the geometry when you can take reference along a single plane from objects on the table. You can draw a line from the back right corner of the 2nd bull from the left in the 2nd rank, through the front left corner of the unit, to easily see the 45 degree arc. Fully 2/3rds of the swordmasters are in the flank. That probably would have won the game.
Glad you enjoyed it mate despite the mistake there! The Guts were in the front but it was super close as id premeasured it in the ogre movement (maybe needs drawing attention to when its so close when its set up in my movement)!
it maybe has distorted it a little there mate but it was definately super close, wed actually got the angle measure down and the mid swordmaster was in the front (id been specifically concious of it when moving my guts unit as that flank charge was something I wanted to specically avoid

Fun game! Ogres are so hard for Helfs but man it was a solid list. The dragon is pure power. Thanks for the good time Behemoth's (dragon in this case) stomps are AP2

ooh cos it skimmed the wood, tbh it never entered my head as we werent actually in the wook (was thinking more along the arborreal gloom (sp?) rule when outside it!
You use conversion-trays with spacing in between the models to represent their actual, correct base sizes. But not for the guy on the Dragon? How come? Should be on a 60x100mm base.
Hey mate, it just counts as having moved p117 and it can move and shoot so we were going off that, is there a conflicting rule for that (and where to find it would be great) I dont know when were were seeing over a hill aswell, as the only hills were where the bolt throwers were and where the lead belchers deployed?
@@BearfootMiniatures we are all learning together, I half hoped you'd find a reference to allow wheeling back wards, its going to make movement much harder, I've seen so many do it on Utube,so its a common miss conception.. Mate 100%, I can see the statement to not use them "officially" (or whatever their statement was exactly) not being what was intended by the designer (a guess though) as theyve even got that statement theyre fully tested
What @airjamy says is right: the guess is gone and you declare a range after being able to premeasure, so its quicker to gues a number "ahead" of the enemy unit (as I could measure the distance then calculate using the longer measures from my unit, it just may be harder to meeasure)
It was a fun game to play atleast! the units have certainly changed shape from 6th/8th to be 7/8 wide but that doesnt look like a historical battle in shape IMO

wed measured it off the 40mm, should have been on the right base granted which wed not factored in but when he flew into the centre he hadnt used all of his movement to get theyre more like 15-16 if hed been facing the same direction
Hopefully you enjoyed the atmosphere of the game and its not put you off returning in the future
@@BearfootMiniatures Oh no worries mate, I meant no offense there! You do this for fun afterall not for profit. I did enjoy the video and if you release more Old World battle reports I'll check those out. Would love to see a Vampire Counts army if you got one! Keep up the good work!
No worries man: glad you enjoyed it! and its deffo no worries pointing out rules (its part of how we learn right!) Ive got a friend whos agreed to come on in the next couple of weeks with counts so theyll be about soon hopefully!
@@BearfootMiniatures Hell yeah, looking forward to seeing some undead!
Always enjoy your content! Great stories and you clearly have fun, which is fun to watch.
In this bat rep I Struggled to follow your very quick approach to movement though! It feels sloppy at times, especially the backwards pivots and sideways movement moments, which I don’t think are possible.
You can move sideways it’s in the movement section and tells you the values to reduce your movement by
@@Road.To.Reikland agreed. But you can’t wheel backwards and then shuffle sideways. 124 says wheel is ‘forwards’ and p.125 explains the backwards and sideways stuff. I think it would need to be a wheel forwards, then a backwards move, then the sideways move. I guess the end result is probably the same.
@@Become_The_Hero your original commented made it sound like you didn’t think you could move sideways my bad if that wasn’t what you meant
Hey mate: your correct mix of manouvres there sadly, so only the sideways shuffle or backwards, no wheeling etc
@@Road.To.Reikland I could have been clearer. No worries my end!
Great battle report guys
Thanks mate, Glad you enjoyed it!
How did the dragon fly so far and turn for free ? Do you get the "Lumbering" free pivot even if you march ?
You dont mate, the actual distance moved int he end was something like 16" (it was the sunday of release so dont remember exaclty) which then with the base size he was on (it wasnt untill the canon shot we were like "hold up that base is too small")
Hopefully you enjoyed the atmosphere of the game and its not put you off returning in the future
No worries , I thought I must have missed a rule 👍
Yeah I don't think that dragon move was correct. You would need to wheel to turn around like that.
i commend everyone who plays the old world, with whome got a calming voice, sound of dice, best thing to watch when trying to fall asleep.
(Interesting but calming)
haha glad you enjoy them mate no matter how you choose to enjoy
Lances have armor bane 1. You rolled 3 6's on the silver helm charge to wound
1 morngfang does not get a close order +1 in combat. You need to be in 'combat formation' to get the close order +1 which says 2 or more models.
forgot a RANK vs the cannon on the PG.
Dragon stomps are ap2
Rear is +2CR
You forgot regen wounds counting for CR too. The HEs won that combat the first round by a lot more than 1.
Last thing regarding the rear charge of the silver helms on to the ironguts: see the incomplete rank rule of p. 158. From what I understand, you would have had 4 ironguts in contact, not 2.
Asin I’d move the iron guys backwards to complete the rank but at the back!!? I’ll check now!
I was just painting with the local Skaven player yesterday: he’s got 1999pts left to the full army haha
Hopefully can find one with a completed army soon!
Really nice content, please keep these coming!
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed the battle report!
For shooting, is arc/LOS taken per model or by the unit?
Awesome match! What is that ogre banner for the BSB from?
didn't think you could have two talismans of protection in one army list
Your right you cant, I had my brain in 6th ed mode from the week before while writing my list, Ill make sure not to correct in future!
Remains In okay spells have to be dispelled at start of turn and walk between worlds is not a remains in play. Or last until start of player turn.
Enchantment spells need the target to be within the caster's arc. For example you couldn't cast troll gut on the ironguts with the butcher. Additionally you cannot do a wizard dispell with a wizard who is in combat.
Your right! Wizards out of units in future I think!
Nice armies.
Those ogre moves were dodgy lol
Shonky ogre movement for sure
Hey mate,
how so so i can improve it for next time?
@@BearfootMiniaturesnoticed a few little bits where you’d measure your maximum move distance.
Move your unit the max but not account for the little bits of wheeling you’d need for where they end up!
Great spirit of the game and some nice flavour throughout though :) appreciate it’s tricky playing new armies, new rules, being on camera and teaching a new player!!
I don't think you can wheel while moving backwards (27:13). The rulebook says you can't perform more than one maneuver during movement, and both Move Backwards and Wheel are maneuvers.
And Close Order is cumulative so in the combat with the Swordmasters, Ogres, and Dragon, the High Elves would have had +2 for close order, and I don't know if you counted the +2 for the dragon's rear charge.
your right on the wheeling noted for next time (was in 6th edition mode with brain fry I think)
100% hadnt realised that close order counted multiple times!
Thanks mate: deffo more, the one for this weekend is ready to go and got 3 games scheduled for recording this and next week!
Mage cant dispell in combat. Thanks for the video!!
Oops, will make sure to catch that next game!
Awesome batrep! Make an army guide for ogres!
Glad you enjoyed it mate! Going to record ogres today as you’ve asked!
At 59:30, why do the leadbelcher have no impact hit?
Double charge of the gorger against both bolt throwers wasn't legal, you can only do that if you have no choice but to contact both units (ie a wide unit).
Your right: I was thinking along the lines of if i make accidental contact (as wed both be maximised anyway I could do it, but your right its only if that situation is unavoidable!
More gorgers needed!
The Phoenix Guard have martial prowess. So wouldn't they get an extra rank of attacks even on the charge?
Yes!
hey mate: the rule says "may make supporting attacks to the flank and to the rear, as well as too the front" we were reading that as to the flank and too the rear as well as the font normally: dont know if thats right but seems odd to not say "fight in an additional rank to the front side and rear" if the intention was to fight 3 ranks
@@BearfootMiniatures no no, you’re completely right. Martial prowess doesn’t allow an extra rank to fight, just that you get support attacks to the rear and flanks. That’s just left over logic from old Helfs. My bad for sure.
Its all learning atm right! I mean double talisman of protection from me remembering them as common magic items from 6th even!
They get "Fight in Extra Rank" from the ceremonial halberds per the Armoury of Ulthuan, so would get supporting attack to the front, and martial prowess will give supporting attacks to the flank and rear.
Tyrants cannot use an ironfist with a magic weapon.
Your right! I had my head in 6th edition mode i think for that one while concentrating on other stuff: thanks for the tip!
@@BearfootMiniatures Cheers mate, great battle report anyway!
It's hard to remember that in units mages need to be able to see where they're casting.
tbh mate definately a thing we hadnt clocked, mages out of units for sure i think, as them adding to the units size vs being a skirmisher within 3 is too harsh
Do bolt throwers suffer a -1 to hit for multiple shots now?
yes sadly
they do mate, seems wierd for an artillery piece thats fixed but i suppose its spraying everywhere!
The Phoenix guard combat they would have caught the cannon. You were not lined up proper on the lead belchers and the bases of the Phoenix guard would have touched the fleeing cannon and thus destroyed it.
Great report!
Glad you enjoyed it mate
Hey, new to rank and flank and this is an honest question: at 31:19 why could the Swordmasters not charge the bulls in the flank?
Hey mate, they were in the front arc (wed actually premeasured to make sure when i was moving my guts, so it was as tight as i could make it to keep them facing the way i wanted in future turns - towards that spear block of a lot of unit strength!)
Can only cast on units in front arc? Is that right or have I got mixed up?
Your right 100% mate, casters out of units!
Appreciate the response, we're all still learning here!@@BearfootMiniatures
ruclips.net/video/2i2d3NbQcpY/видео.html
Wizard can't cast "Shield of Saphery" on the swordmasters, because they aren't in his vision arc.
p.108
Choosing A Target
Unless stated otherwise, the following rules apply when
choosing a target: • The target must lie within the Wizard’s vision arc, but the
Wizard does not need a line of sight to the target.
ruclips.net/video/2i2d3NbQcpY/видео.html
p.127 The swordmasters would have gone in the flank....
@@BearfootMiniatures fair enough! You were the guys in the room! Especially if you talked about avoiding the flank charge. I'm in favour of playing with intention.
man 100% agreed with you there, and its useful it being pointed out cos its prompted the thought for me to state that intent in future!
Love it! Where did you get those movement trays?
Theyre from both Warbases and The War Office, war office do made to order customs for the same price as most places if you message them on FB exactly what you want

@@BearfootMiniatures I'm loving the old world hype

Ill make sure to get Jimmy on ASAP!
ye ogre cannons arent move or shoot so can rock about being a chariot-cannon!
Awesome report mate.
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed it!
Love to see the ogres in the old world.
Keep the old world content coming!
When charged in the flank, your ogres can step up to attack. So you can fight with the full rank, not just the 1 or 2 ogres in base contact. Page 158 - "incomplete ranks"
Theyll be more this weekend mate! They can step up to attack!! mental, ill read that page/section now!
@19:34 Illuminati confirmed
Illuminati?! dont know what you mean, nothing to see here, move along!
Fun game! Ogres are so hard for Helfs but man it was a solid list. The dragon is pure power. Thanks for the good time
Behemoth's (dragon in this case) stomps are AP2
impact hits are also just I10, same as strike first! you can also just get to i10 the same as impact hits and strikes first by just being fast like sword masters on the charge
sorry to point out rules like crazy but its all about us as a community learning and being better!
The end of turn 4 Elfs the PHX guard won combat (they also have full plate i believe) and they outnumber the ogres by double so the ogres dont fall back in good order, they fleeeee!
Mate its no worries, atall, It genuinely helps us learn (as this was soon after release and i dont get prerelease as a small channel, so worrying about filming etc does hamper sometimes)
The double combat is a great shout as id completely missed it (I was looking for it in the combats in the centre, not in a purposeful missing this one way but because i was specifically looking to get the break)
Glad you enjoyed the game and definately more to come!
Would the Spearmen fight in 3 ranks with Martial Prowess + spears?
hey mate: the rule says "may make supporting attacks to the flank and to the rear, as well as too the front" we were reading that as to the flank and too the rear as well as the font normally but dunno if thats right, but seems odd to not say "fight in an additional rank to the front side and rear" if the intention was to fight 3 ranks
You forgot about cover -1 from wood in turn1
ooh cos it skimmed the wood, tbh it never entered my head as we werent actually in the wook (was thinking more along the arborreal gloom (sp?) rule when outside it!
You use conversion-trays with spacing in between the models to represent their actual, correct base sizes. But not for the guy on the Dragon? How come? Should be on a 60x100mm base.
I dont think rich had realised the base size would be different, it was only on the cannon shot mid game where we were like "hold up"!
I think they played on release day so rich had not got all his bases and stuff yet :)
ye was on release of the ogres so about 3 days later (this was Jimmys 2nd game!)
Fear is only once in combat isn’t it so he should have had the change on last turn
The cannon rallied so no shot and you can't see over a hill.
Hey mate, it just counts as having moved p117 and it can move and shoot so we were going off that, is there a conflicting rule for that (and where to find it would be great)
I dont know when were were seeing over a hill aswell, as the only hills were where the bolt throwers were and where the lead belchers deployed?
@@BearfootMiniaturesthink it’s when the cannons shooting across the board at the silverhelms, from behind the leadbelcher hill (He misfires anyway).
great game guys
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it!
not sure you can wheel backwards?
your correct! only minor effect on the game I think but good to know for the future! thanks for the heads up!
@@BearfootMiniatures we are all learning together, I half hoped you'd find a reference to allow wheeling back wards, its going to make movement much harder, I've seen so many do it on Utube,so its a common miss conception.. Thank fully I have a son who checks everything to eliminate old assumptions - and doesn't trust Dad (me). I have grounded him for being a smart a**e, lol. Tbf its good we are taking this approach.

Walk between worlds is not remains in play.
Oh just a "till next turn"? Good to know for next time!
Luckily I think the rolls for that unit were abysmal enough all game that it wont have had a big effect and hopefully you enjoyed the game regardless!
Glad you play Legacy.. "Legacy" armies too!. The biggest BS of the game.. A little too harsh wording on them..
Mate 100%, I can see the statement to not use them "officially" (or whatever their statement was exactly) not being what was intended by the designer (a guess though) as theyve even got that statement theyre fully tested
Bro ogre player chill it doesn't matter if you win. Elf dude great attitude.
Hey mate: do you mean based on the outro or something else?
Turn 1, that doesn’t feel like much of a guess if you can just nominate an exact distance away from the target.
Well, you do not have to guess, that is just a thing they are calling it because you used to have to actually guess in 6th edition.
@@airjamy then you could theoretically just measure it?
@@TheJankmasterYou could, but you do not need to as you can just declare a point. Why measure if it is pointless.
What @airjamy says is right: the guess is gone and you declare a range after being able to premeasure, so its quicker to gues a number "ahead" of the enemy unit (as I could measure the distance then calculate using the longer measures from my unit, it just may be harder to meeasure)
👍👍
Line hammer
Yep linehammer seems fun.
It was a fun game to play atleast!
the units have certainly changed shape from 6th/8th to be 7/8 wide but that doesnt look like a historical battle in shape IMO
ooof Wheeling is such a shitty game mechanic, should have just used Pivots like Kings of War.
as much as its confining I actually really like it as it means more prior thought is needed imo (though ive not played kings and would be happy to play it when i get the chance to see exactly)
i love this channels Battreps but this one is sadly not good. you did sooo many mistakes. please consider reading the rulebook first :-/
Hey mate, sorry you feel that way, in our slight defence this was filmed soon after release and we’re not a big enough channel yet to get early access
Hopefully you feel the atmosphere if not the game is good enough to give us another go in the future!
i sure will 🙂@@BearfootMiniatures

haha im not really sure it is mate: it was ogres and high elves, hardly two armies famed for big blocks
the units have certainly changed shape from 6th/8th to be 7/8 wide but that doesnt look like a historical battle in shape IMO
@@BearfootMiniaturesyeah I don't understand why I keep seeing this "linehammer" thing. Some elite units will be smaller but wider. Some cheaper hold the line type units will still want several ranks
it seems to be a thing of concern atm i suppose and these armies have those traits naturally, certainly I dont want to see armies entirely made up of single line units
They will all be well upset when they face seaguard ........😅😅
