Hydrofoiling in extreme weather | Candela C-8 in high waves

- This was a windy day in the Baltic Sea, testing new actuators on the 100% electric, hydrofoiling Candela C-8. Since 2017 our R&D and testing teams have been out on a daily basis in all sea conditions, testing and pushing our foil technology to new limits.

the sea state was mostly just chop, I would like to see it perform in rollers, 2-4 foot.
Conditions at the beginning of the video and when you show foiling are obviously not the same. Does your technology not work in more than 10 knots? Are you trying to hide something or is this just an oversight by overzealous editors?
0:28 The occupants of the foiling vessel look to be getting a significantly better ride than those in the planing chase boat.
at 0:28 the water is relatively calm. This does address what original power said.@@mitseraffej5812
Maybe you didn’t see the other boat next to them?
Wall yes it looked much more comfortable. However this is not by any means extreme conditions. There is no more wind than 8 ms (using Beaufort scale).
@@madsgrandare you broke you can’t afford it because you hate your spouse
rough waves?!! WOT??? We get worse on the river in Perth, with a 1-2 Km fetch.
good one hero, got ya winnie blues tucked up in ya muscle shirt too I bet
bigger swell on the swan
You call that extreme weather!?!? And where are so called high waves?????
That is NOT high waves, i would call that calm sea....
I would like to see candela vs a standard boat not as a showcase for candelas superiority (it is in many dimensions anyway). I would like to see it on really rough waters starting with calm ones.
Love this boat, so steady on a little bit of turbulence in rough sea conditions !

Please be honest, the footage where the boat is flying is not taken with wind blowing 15 m/s. You know this and everyone who ever was sailing a little bit knows the same.
Definitely a marketing video. Just look at the (lack of) white caps. They have done incredible things but this will be a toy never a work boat if it cannot fly in 1m chop. They will do it though. It's only a matter of time. You know the engineers are chomping at the bit to solve this problem. Give them some credit as this is EXTREMELY difficult engineering to get this far.
@@sports2hedz542why cant they just extend the foils so its higher? less efficient if they do that?
@@wazup3333 it's not like the foils have some predestined water depth to fly at. The foils would just be deeper. It is a delicate balance of a bunch of forces. And with wind, a boat on foils could very easily get blown over in a gust. Very non-trivial.
@@sports2hedz542 no they aren't. They want to sell BS
can we please FORGET any unit other than KNOTS. BOATS = KNOTS.
Nice boat. But... That is NOT extreme weather or high waves. :)
You guys are trurly amazing
Maybe it is a Baltic thing but honestly..... that is NOT "high waves". Bring it down to southern Australia and we can show you some high-wave boating. We get larger chop in the sheltered waters of Port Phillip Bay 🤣🌊
Looks like an Anytec boat that is beside it. Great comparison.
"Extreme weather"
damn i hate marketing teams
I hate that they call normal weather now for "EXSTREEME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ----
unless they are selling MY product :D
WOW. If ever a case should be made for foiling, this video is self explanatory.
Very impressive but I missed the "extreme weather" and "high waves". I can imagine some improvement over traditional hulls but would love to see it in proper, heavy conditions.
It could handle a 10ft wave right?
Looks good. What happens when a rogue wave slams into it? Will be hard to stabilise in the Atlantic or Pacific oceans.
forget rogue wave! ANY ocean chop would change this scenario...or at least this video does not show otherwise.
just insane
💕
It’s a paradigm shift - we are looking at the future!!!
future of Saturday arvo on the lake!
super video
👍
Terrific post. Thanks.
Any chance you would make a smaller more affordable one for the price of a tesla model X?
Noo.. Why bash on the normal planing hulls like that.. Showing it with too little speed for the conditions and trim all down, not the ideal way to do a comparison. 😡 Atleast get someone to drive the planning hull with no fear of the ocean and passion to go fast in any conditions. That would be an epic video and show off the candela smooth ride in a much greater scale. Greetings from Finland!
maybe his one ruclips.net/video/xIp9OkMzZkM/видео.html
Yes, I was thinking the same - the non-foiler looked to be trimmed down which is just a super stupid call by the producer or Candela marketing guy on this shoot:(
Extreme?!
Extremely placid, more like it.
You guys call that extreme, that's weak! 1 foot swells 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Extreme weather? LOL
That’s not extreme weather. Throw some swell in there and see how you do.
Click bait bs that was smooth as a baby’s butt for the ocean, that thing couldn’t fair rough seas at all
Silly comparison
This BS video does more harm than good for your product
I. WANT. ONE. (Unfortunately I don't have the money.)
or the sea knowledge
@@JustMeBlindFreddyRight. I have about as much money as I have the sea knowledge: Some, but not enough.
