How To Make Reusable Stencils With Photo Emulsion Sheets
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 29 сен 2024
- This week we made our most requested project! A reusable stencil! We didn't even need our Cricut! We used EZ Screenprint's Emulsion Sheets. This is a great way to create a re-usable stencil! You simply print your image onto a printable transparency, lay it on the Emulsion sheet and put it in the sun. That's it, super easy! And since it has a screen, you can use it again and again! Watch how used this stencil on both hard and soft surfaces. You'll be amazed at the detail which required absolutely no weeding!
Stuff We Used:
EZScreenPrint: amzn.to/2WNlEgt
Grafix Ink Jet Film: amzn.to/2EVLDbw
Speedball Screen Printing Ink: amzn.to/2EUN61q

GREAT video. I’ve not seen this type of stencil. LOVE the ability to obtain incredible detail. Thanks so much for your contributions to us all. 🙏
Thank you so much! I spent quite a bit of money purchasing the EZ screen materials. I wasted two transparencies trying to make it work. I thought my printer didn’t print dark enough. But I was doing the black on top and setting that in the sun, you flipped it over so the transparency was showing in the sun! Thank you I was doing it wrong. I will try this way. I hope it works. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Oh my gosh, I think this is exactly what I've been looking for! BTW love watching you guys!
Yes! We felt the same way when we found out about it. It was easy and worked great!
Kim and Garrett make it I really need to try it! It’s kind of expensive. I wonder how many times you can reuse it? 🤷♀️
So much fun. Sadly, the price is high but I’d love to try it ❤️
It’s definitely an investment but a fun one!
Very useful explanation! Thanks! If I make a smaller stencil than yours, can I put it under a UV lamp like the ones used for nail art, instead of putting it in direct sunlight?
OMG you two are friggin' adorable! Haha! I can't wait to try this!
Please do!
I found something similar to the photo emulsion sheet but its sticky backed material and reusable over and over again. Any idea what that is called? This was great! I was relieved to know I wouldn't have to buy a 200 dollar light machine to do this. TY!!
Yes, IkonArt has a sticky version.
Questions ☺️
So you mention putting it on the glass the right way, what is the right way? Ink up or down?
Water, is water used to be cold or warm or doesn’t matter? And can you use this type of stencil on sanded pine wood? Surprised at the any paint use 👍. Thanks for the lesson 👍
BTW, love his energy 😂
I have the same questions.🤗
Just make sure the image is mirrored, the ink doesn't matter. We used cold tap water. Yep, you can use it on sanded pine, but I would dab the paint to prevent bleeding.
There's nothing better than doing an awesome project and getting a tan at the same time.
Ha! Right?! He's a multitasker...
We call that UV damage in the derm business.
Great video thanks I’m very confused though. I’m not seeing holes in the stencil so can’t understand how the paints going through…are there holes? And I just can’t see them, you never really showed a close up of the blue sheet after it came out of the water.
Yes, it's a screen so where the emulsion is rinsed there's screen material
@@KimandGarrettmakeit thank you so much for answering an older video. Appreciate you taking the time.
Is there a video showing how you did the design to put on the grafix film?
what is the right direction for the tansparency?
I’m wondering too...is the ink up or down? You just said to lay it the right way but I don’t know which way is right, lol
Just came across your channel. New subby here. Question if I want to order the sheets, what exactly are they called. The link you provided , out of stock. So is there another name, as there's so much and similar online.
"Some see WEED'S... Others see WISHES".
Can the stencil be used on the reverse side? Brilliant video thank you 👍😷👍
Firstly.. Love this re usable stencil method. Question: Did you use normal printing on the printable transparency paper? New to this all! Lot to learn still!
I was wondering what side you print it on
Can you rinse the paint off the stencil and use it again in a few days months, etc? Or is it only reusable immediately using the same paint for both projects while it's still wet? Silk screenprinting businesses spray something on their emulsioned screens to wash the emulsion away once a job is complete so they can reuse the screens over and over. I'm not sure what they're using to weaken the emulsion so it can be sprayed away. I wouldn't want an ingredient in the paint to do the same thing and ruin a stencil.
Hi, many thanks for the funny and useful video
Do you thinks this will work for stencils for face painting, I mean paintings over skin for kids
thks
Can't find this stuff anywhere in the UK where it's produced in the UK. It's all imported and thus incredibly expensive!
Can you make me Victoria's secret ones I saw the SV g's I want a few different ones and in a couple sizes I wanna make baby girls with it and I wanna make my research so yeah if you can reply back to me I greatly appreciate it looking for someone to make them I have the cricket I just have no clue what I'm doing and then I keep watching your video instead don't get it
I'm totally confused how does the paint work if there's no holes in the stencil.
Me too..
I followed the instructions, but my silkscreen failed. Not sure what I did wrong, it is winter in Idaho so the sun is not very hot, do you think this is why. I can see the images on the silkscreen, but they are not very clear.
I have alot of plastic stencil and would lk to make my own is there a machine where I can place my plastic stencils in and copy over to a reusable self adhesive paper and beable to make my own... something like a scanner
Any link to an emulsion paper on amazon nowadays? The EZscreenprint sheets are no longer available 😢
Great video but what did you mean when said put the transparency facing in the right direction. Thank you
Garrett! Don’t you know that’s a pampered chef! 🤦♀️
Right?!!! You can't just use that for paint projects! :)
Olá, gostava de encontrar folhas dessas mas em tamanho A3 para Portugal será que me podiam ajudar?
I know this is 3 years old but wonder if you could use like chalk paste on a surface? Kind of like chalk couture so we can wipe off and do a different season would be so cool and cheaper?
Could this stencil be used, using multiple colored paints within the pattern?
Is the acrylic paint you're using mixed with a medium or just straight acrylic paint
My big question is can you clean off the sheet and put new Emulsion on it for a different design?
Omg he did not just use pampered chef! Thank you for this video I have looked forever for a tutorial with no machine. ☺️ Thank you
Ha! Right?!! :) thanks Melina!
Excuse me - would you be able to use a spray paint instead of the paint and squidgy ?
When I put mine in the water… it literally deteriorated. ☹️ what did I do wrong??
Could you out links to other products mentioned like the "cricket" and the "easy press".
I can't understand.... how the paint goes trouxe the film...
I don’t have an inkjet printer. Is there a product I can buy for a laser printer
Loved this. The EXSCREEN is not available. Any other suggestions or options?
I live in Sweden and we have almost 7 months with almost no sun at all. Can use any other kind of light energy? A lamp for example and which kind a watts do you recommend?
roberta castro I use black light
Yes! Just Google photo emulsion bulb!
Question. I have a design that is 8" x 24" (horizontal)- it's something I reuse over and over and for now, ugh, I'm 'cutting' a stencil each time. I'm putting the image on wood (with paint). I'd LOVE to find a better option. Do you know if this is a possibility - that sizing, to find a photo emulsion method for a design that is 8"x24" (thank you!)
Does it like dissolve the area that the image has been exposed to?
This is what I wanna know too!
Dear World... I am secretly in love with Kim & Garret!! You two are awesome. Are you part of the FB group Print Squad? If not you should be... Have a great day... Thanks for another fun AND informative 📹...
Thanks Cheryl! Just joined!!!
Wow! Great tip. Never would have thought of that. Thanks.
Hello, so did you try it with chalk couture paste or ink?? also did you try any adhesive yet?
You guys are an inspiration to all. I really LOVE your videos. At first, Garrett was a bit much, but, I’ve grown to just LOVE that guy, he’s hysterical! Keep up the GREAT work
I’m glad you’re on board now! 🥰
Could I use a black and white photo for this?
so I'm sorry you prob said it but you buy the actual stencil/picture correct? THANK YOU!
Hi! We offer the digital file and the wood letters. The digital file can be used to make a stencil with a cutting machine like a Crcut or a Silouettrr. Or you can cut wood letters using a laser like the Glowforge.
SO I have a Yudu Machine could I use that for exposure instead of direct sunlight?
I’m not sure what that is but if it’s UV yes
You guys are so incredibly adorable! Thank you for this video this helped a lot.
Thank you Monica! :)
where did you get your picture from that you used?
Do you have links for the products used
That was so cool! im a 1st time watcher, i loved it! but how do you get the design on that transparency sheet?
Most printers will work. Just use the tranperancy film as you would loaded into the paper tray.
Will this work with laser printers?
Select the transparency film for your specific printer. Most will say Ink Jet transparency film. Maybe laser
You can wash it and keep reusing it?
Why are there three Ks on the wall? In a triangle.
K & g spot on again !....do the images hold up after a washing or 15 ? I have a friend who gets a container from China with 15,000 totes a whack and prints onem...Ya given me ideas again !
Yep, EZ Screenprint says they'll last for 100's of uses!
Could u use it for knife makers marks on knives for electro chemical etching
That's a good question! I don't think so since there is still a mesh?
I’ve bought these stencils before to use on quilts. I pounce a chalk pad over the stencil to transfer the image into the quilts. It works like a charm. Now I know how they’re made! TYFS, Kim & Garrett!!
i know it's kinda randomly asking but do anyone know a good site to watch new series online ?
@Axton Michael Flixportal :D
@Charles Castiel Thanks, signed up and it seems like a nice service :) I really appreciate it!
@Axton Michael no problem :)
Wow! This is an old video and I just found it. I’ve never seen this way to do a stencil. Crazy cool. Thank you!
Lol right??
Great video and thanks for the content! This may sound like a stupid question but I'm wondering how the paint is transferring through if there's not a cut being made like on the Cricut. I'm looking to make reusable stencils for screen printing for shirts. Thanks for your help!
I have exactly the same question. Glad I'm not the only one.
Yup I have the same question. How come not many are asking
I want to know too! Are there actually cuts that have been burned into the material that the paint is getting through? I’m assuming yes but they aren’t shown
I think I heard them say it was “mesh”. So if that’s the case it has a screen 🤷🏻♀️
They are using an emulsion sheet. The black ink (on the transparent film they printed the dandelions on) will make the emulsion wash out after being exposed to sun or UV light basically, leaving clean cutouts wherever the ink touched the emulsion. Think of it like acid, it’ll eat through wherever the ink is.
Awesome video! (over a year later)
can I use this with an airbrush? and would it need to be the specific emulsion paper mentioned in this video...
Hey Kaos! Yeah I think you could use the these emulsion sheet for airbrush, but you might have to apply it a little thicker. Let me know if you try it. Thanks! Garrett TheNotSoDemiGod
Omg!!!! Where is the LOVE button???????????? It's like you read my mind! I wanted to learn how to do this!!!!
Ps- almost 11,000 subscribers!!!!!!
Thanks Jess! It's so easy! You gotta try it! And yes, eeek 11k!
How much is the cost of this emulsion sheets
Have you tried one of these screens with your wood burning gel?
No, but that sounds like a good idea.
Just what i was looking for! Does it matter what type of printer? Laser or inkjet???ty
Both printers will work, just use the highest quality print setting so the black is as dark as possible. We just did a new version of this with IkonArt
Very nice! The bag really makes your outfit 😋what is the care of the stencil? Have to wash the paint off before it dries?
Lee O I had the same question.
Care and life of stencil?
The most important thing is to clean it quickly. Do not let it dry. We let ours get too dry and it didnt coat correctly.
Kim and Garrett make it - what is the best way to clean them?
Warm water and a small amount of dishsoap.
Very similar to how you process old slide film
Awesome tutorial. I just bought a screen print kit today, level 1. I am always interested in watching videos like this, to help give me ideas of ways to get things done.
Cool project. Too much work for me but enjoyed watching you guys do it. Garrett, the bag looks great on you😝
Lol, but it was so easy! Yes. I thought the bag shot was funny too :)
Where did you get the design
How many times can you use it
Great job guys 👍, pretty cool love. Garrett get your suntan on lol. Much love and big Tx hugs from South Tx.
Hi Maria! Thanks!!!
I tried an image on a t-shirt but didn't get all the detail, the image was not as complicated as yours. Do you have any suggestions on how to get more of the detail to come out? The stencil was taped to the shirt around all 4 sides. Thanx for the help. Where did you get the image of the dandelion?
You don't need to cut the pattern out of the sheet? I'm confused!
nope! it's a special reaction
Can I do this on paper?
Can u use it in cake the stencil
I love this technique! I was just wondering, is there a way to put some kind of adhesive on the back to kinda make it like a chalk couture transfer? Just curious.
Are they washable to use again for another color?
Yes! We did another version of this using IkonArt stencils. They're awesome, I highly recommend. We have a coupon code Make10
Can you do a video on how you guys clean the screens?
Oh we should!
can a tracing paper work?
Howdy ty for video love the design alot..im researching alot..do u know if we can reclaim these emulsion sheets like normal box screens using the cleaner and degreaser or if u just have to buy a new one? Theyre 10 bucks each for 8 by 11 so it would be nice. Perhaps i cant find anything about this w ezscreen due to possibly ruining it by doing so. It does say keep in fridge or at least 68 degrees when not used and lasts 6 months so perhaps not? Still I think id rather not use harsh Chen's. Eco factors using fabric paint or acrylic based other seems healthier overall. Ty
Hey there when doing a design and printing on the transparency, will I need to reverse my image or do I print it out like I would normally? Asking as I have text involved haha thank you!
Yes, you'll want to print mirrored and place ink side down on stencil film
@@KimandGarrettmakeit Thanks for the reply! And can the transparency be reused? My first transfer didnt go well :/
Love this video! Love this CHANNEL! I've been looking for an easy stencil I can reuse and this video shows a great way to do that, so thank you for that! You two make everything seem fun and easy...so looks like this project is next on my to-do list!
It really is that easy!!!
You two are the best, love your videos. I’m in Nova Scotia, hoping my Amazon store carries these products.
Thank you for this! Is it possible to cut the emulsion sheet and clear sheet? I want to screenprint onto something smaller
Hi Caleb! Yes, you can easily cut both smaller.
@@KimandGarrettmakeit Thanks so much for the reply!
Can you please send the emulsion sheets link? I wish I had seen your page b4 I ordered a stencil burner machine!
I searched for them, they are practical and easy but expensive :( after seeing the video I was super excited but when I realized the price :(
Instead of glass could you use plexiglass?
HMM I'm not sure!
Love love love! Thank you for this info!
How do you safely clean the speedball ink off of the photo emulsion screen if you want to change colors? If cleaned immediately after each project run, how many runs do you think you could do before having to make a new screen. I would assume you would start to loose detail if not cleaned immaculately and the ink dried in the screen.
Does emulsion cleaner harm the cured photo emulsion. Would you suggest fixing the emulsion screen to a frame to prevent run off/over (edge bleed) and make a print run go more quickly with less chance if mess or mistakes?
I do spray painting. Would that end up sticking to my paint or is there an adhesive on it where it'll just peel off no problem?
Great video, thanks. How many uses which these type of stencils? Does it depend on how many times they are washed? If so, wondering if just wiping them clean for use with same color will allow them to last longer?
thank you for the video: I have a couple of questions:
1) Do the black print has to be from a laser printer?
2) Does the exposure to the sun 1 minute will work no matter what time is it or where I'm located? since sometimes sun is stronger
How do you guys wash it & what did u use to set the print in the bag so it didn’t smear???
Is this material food safe? I'm wondering if I could use it for cookies stencils.
Can those stencils also be used with Etching cream?
Good question. We'd have try it. Let us know if you do!
can we use that stencil's for the bleech on the garments?
It's not sticky so it might bleed
OMG.. you guys made me laugh!
Him carrying the bag😂 PRICELESS!
This is amazing!!! Did you use fabric paint? How did you put the heat press to it without messing it up? I don't understand how this works but it's amazing. Does the paint bleed thru? I have so many questions lol.
I see Kim is a Pampered Chef lover like I am. LOL. Great video for real people to use!
WOW!!!!!!!! That's awesome!!!! How many times do you think you can use the stencil? Do you think any other type of paint would work?
Hi Debbie! It says you can use it then 100's of times!
@@KimandGarrettmakeit AWESOME!!!
Thanks for replying !
Hi guys, what temperature does the water need to be ?
We put the printed side up right and the E sheet on top of the printed side correct ?
Also how did you wipe away the paint from the stencil when you were done ?
Thank you 😊
