I tried to be a minimalist for two years, had no-shopping year, downsized my wardrobe to basics but finally realised it wasn't me. Ive been creative with my outfits from early childhood , it was the way I express myself, communicate with this world. So now I have quite a big but curated wardrobe.
    Love from Russia ❤

“Be careful in dealing in absolutes”. That statement, IMO, sums it all up perfectly. Life is organic. It moves and meanders down paths we cannot foresee. The only dependable factor is change. Our lives, our needs, our bodies, our motivations all change with time. I went through the process of decimating my wardrobe down to what I considered The Basics and I am exceedingly grateful that I did that. I learned invaluable lessons about what I *actually* like and need out of my wardrobe. I learned about how susceptible I am to admiring a piece and experiencing that tremendous pull to own said piece to only get it home and discover it does not work for me. I learned discipline in making conscientious purchase decisions, which helped me tremendously in creating the look I wanted. Like an artist being disciplined in the lines, textures, and colours they choose to communicate what they want to express. I went through countless cycles of being inspired and excited and being uninspired and dissatisfied with my wardrobe to know that my decision to add to my wardrobe has to be about more than simply how I feel. But also, to honour that need for something new simply because I want some excitement to spark new creativity and satisfaction when it is persistent. I recently added, what is now for me relatively speaking, a lot of new items. But I did spend a lot of time considering those items. My style is set at it’s core. The process of distilling all the various factors (my body type, my lifestyle, my personality, etc.) has been done. But that doesn’t mean I’m fossilized in time. My personal style will continue to evolve and become more refined as I age. My needs and desires will continue to shift and change in subtle ways. I’m not going to deny myself a creative outlet simply so I can say I have a “minimalist and sustainable” wardrobe. My clothing is not simply utilitarian. I am more than a body that needs to be covered by material. The photography in this video is simply stunning. It’s exciting as a viewer to experience your creativity in this new iteration of your content. I love the connection between personal expression of creativity through clothing and the exploration of the beauty in the natural world around us. It’s inspiring and elevates the very concept of your channel in a quiet yet powerful way.

I think it’s really amazing to see how your style and thoughts have evolved over the years. I saw how it reflected your lifestyle for each particular phase and your goals. One can still be on a minimalist mindset and have one specific area of their possessions that they love and have expanded. It’s when you notice you are not receiving value from certain items is when it’s a time to declutter. 💛

We appreciate you sharing your evolution and not continuing down a path that isn't working for you. I've always enjoyed your content because you seem to have similar values to me and live in accordance with them, not because you had a particular type of wardrobe. Your insights are helpful and applicable whether we own 15 clothing items or 150.
Personally, I find any strict, self-imposed rules pretty psychologically detrimental in most areas of life. I'm a perfectionist and diagnosed with OCD, and noticed that trying to be a strict minimalist was just another manifestation of my anxiety. Ironically, I spent far more time, energy, and sometimes money trying to curate the "perfect" minimalist wardrobe than if I'd never limited myself. Only allowing myself a certain number of items meant those items had to be "perfect," and this search generated so much unnecessary stress. I still shop very mindfully and don't like excess, but have accepted it's okay to not limit yourself to the bare minimum either.

  • @hibazafran1765
    @hibazafran1765 Год назад +10

I like that you’re keeping imperfect things regardless of wardrobe item number and using them up/still playing with them. Sustainability. Minimizing waste. If it’s in your closet and being used. That’s not a bad thing vs the hyper curated perfect wardrobe that doesn’t exist unless you never ever change.

I know I have too many items in my wardrobe but I too am going to sit on it and give myself some time. Remove some items out of sight. Play around with things before I decide. I like the concept of storage for awhile verses donate as soon as your feeling overwhelmed. For me I feel overwhelmed so easily so I would purge my everything (which I’ve done in the past, and personally was not helpful for me) ❤

Finally ! Thank you ! . I followed you for your wonderful style choices not for the minimalist wardrobe nonsense. People have different needs and wants and as long as they WEAR and ENJOY what they have , wardrobe item count is meaningless. What is minimal amount of clothes for one lifestyle is too many for another. Happy for you :)

Love all your content over the years. The magic is you, the topic is irrelevant!
At the beginning of 2020 I went through a huuuge wardrobe clear out and wow!
So many things that were uncomfortable, chaotic patterns that didn’tlook nice with anything else, things that didn’t really flatter me or that I had outgrown (had been very skinny and was getting towards a more healthy weight). It helped me focus my style and create a visually beautiful closet /jewelry area that feels like an artists palette that allows me to create endless variations using the beautiful garments and accessories.
It never became a tiny wardrobe, as I found out my favorite and best pieces were many!…and your content from back then was incredibly helpful even though I was not moving towards a tiny wardrobe. Xxo

I'm conscious of having a very minimalist lifestyle at the moment because a) I'll have to move at least twice in the next 2-3 years and I want it to be as painless as possible, b) my current space is only moderately larger than a postage stamp with very little storage and c) I'm studying and working a lot of jobs so I need time and breathing space, not clutter. Also, d) cost of living crisis, I got to pay rent before I buy trinkets haha. But I can't wait to one day have my own space where I can make a little nest and collect house plants and indulge my wardrobe. Life shifts and I guess the best attitude is to evolve with what we need and can manage for that situation.

I agree with so much in this video -- especially letting go of perfectionism. I will never have the 'perfect' wardrobe simply because I enjoy being out in the world and absorbing influences. If you're someone whose wardrobe isn't that important to you, a wardrobe of functional basics may be all you ever want, and that's awesome. But for me, aesthetics are a joy in life and I enjoy following whatever speaks to me. So I am just trying to tweak/evolve my wardrobe by favoring pre-loved items, to avoid too much wastefulness. I look forward to your whole-wardrobe review whenever you feel ready for it!!!

Thank you for sharing your journey with us and for your transparency and honestly about the evolution of your wardrobe, it’s very refreshing. Our personal styles should change along with our passions, our priorities, our occupations. I know mine has in the last several years, due to a shift in work and frankly from watching content creators like you. I’ve grown a little side hustle reselling preloved and vintage clothes in the last few years, and this has helped me be far more creative in my own style, as the business allows me to buy one-offfs at a very low cost that I can then resell or keep. Your content has been key in helping me carve out a unique style. 😊 So thank you! Two more things: 1) I agree that purple top is stunning on you, how fantastic to see you in a bold bright colour. 2) You are absolutely correct about the wear and tear on a small wardrobe. Even high quality items will fade, pill or lose their shape when worn repeatedly, and that in itself takes time (more handwashing, depilling, dry cleaning, etc). I stick to well-made, which honestly you can find even in some fast fashion pieces (which I buy preloved or thrifted), low-maintenance natural fibres and that does play a role the longevity of the items.

Fashion/makeup/nails etc are definitely the part of my life that is maximalist. I'm minimal about skincare (I'll buy all my sunscreens in bulk because I go through them but I don't have five moisturizers open at the same time) and body/hair, but the color part of expression is integral to me! I tried to go minimalist and could not, I felt boring and empty, not only because I was missing colors I'd love to have pops of because I focused on a small set of shades that I enjoyed most often. Wardrobe minimalism just isn't for me. Secondhand shopping, mending, dyeing, and sharing clothes with friends and family has reduced my footprint as a maximalist. :)

If you are comfortable with showing off 40 items wardrobe then be comfortable showing off 70 items wardrobe.
The truth is that in the past, the wardrobe number was the defining element of your channel.
Now that you have developed an optional mindset in regard to clothing, it is beneficial to your viewers to see a 'no guilt' wardrobe.
Minimalism ( wardrobe & interior design) is slowly fading out because for long term living it really is restrictive and boring.

I would question the idea that wearing something more frequently wears it out faster. For delicate fabrics yeah of course, but more durable things like thick cotton....not so much. All comes down to the fabric of choice and what it is worn for rather than just the quality of the item so to speak.
