  • "ieronimino18" asked for this #63 hit from 1978, which was the first of Jerry's 3 charting singles from 1978-1982, as well as his biggest hit. As I've stated before, if you're a fan of Pantera, Jerry was the father of their founder, the late "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. I don't know much about them, but am familiar with David Allan Coe's work with them. Enjoy!

Born in April 1942, he was only 21 years old when he had Vinnie in March 1964. Vince said in an interview the song was written about him and it's one of his favourites written by his Dad, also adding that We'll Meet Again from Pantera's Power Metal was one of Jerry's favourites they had written.
It's crazy to think this man, now 78, has outlived his ex-wife and his two sons, the youngest having been killed. I hope Jerry is doing well enough these days and that he has good people around him, without him, his management and his influence we would never have been blessed with the music of the Abbott brothers at all.

Can't imagine how Mr Abbott feels having out lived both his sons. I know how I'd feel if my two kids died before me, life me for would pretty much end there.

wilburscott ... THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this song.... I had waited 37 years to hear it again after hearing it on the radio driving through South Carolina in the middle of the night in 1978.

I think Jerry's tongue was firmly in cheek with this one and it is a funny send-up of a father's macho plans for his son. A single that one could have imagined Ray Stevens putting out.

Ive been searching for this song for about 28 years. I heard it while in high school. I called a country station that would play it, but was told they couldnt find it. Isnt there a male/female singer version?
