The Ontos is one of my favorite vehicles in the game. Somewhat counterintuitively it is really good when played extremely aggressively in CQB. Primarily because you are so small and fast that you can just whip around corners and blast people and they either won't have time to react or they miss because they are aiming above you.
Even funnier is when this little gremlin bounces some APHE, i don't play it but i giggle every time i shoot it and it doesn't die lol. Doesn't happen often, but when it does, lmao

@@juanbait9670 unfortunately the ranging MGs in the game don't really work (Chieftains also have one for HESH). They only have the same impact to around about 300-400m, after that the MG rounds fall short from the actual point of impact
@@topazish You don't really need to once you get a feel for the rounds, and IME they're terrible against light ground vehicle. So bad that I've never even bothered shooting them at planes.
A recoilless rifle doesn't use rockets. It uses gunpowder (or whatever similar propellant), but a lot of the expanding gas escapes through holes in the shel, then holes in the back of the breech. This means the gun doesn't absorb most of the recoil, but you need to use more propellant to compensate for the what's wasted.

Forgotten Weapons did a couple videos on the ranging MG's used with the Recoiless Rifles, very interesting. Pretty funny the most efficient way to aim the gun was to fire a smaller gun.

The ontos is probably my favourite tank in WT, had so many clutch moments in it... especially if your team is being steamrolled in your spawn, spawn the ontos and clear everything lol
The best part about the Ontos is the spotting MG's they actually slap and you can do some OK SPAA with them @OddbawZ you gotta use the secondary weapon fire and it fires all 6 MG's on the top of each barrel
Absolutely love the ontos just for the sheer insanity of whoever invented it. just a pyramid on tracks with 6 super muskets strapped on top. Like a wild west gunslinger you have 6 shots and then its like 6 minutes to reload from OUTSIDE the tank (irl).
I remember reading some pretty insane stories about this anachronistic vehicle platform in a Vietnam grunts book he wrote upon returning home. They loved the Ontos not only because of its relatively fast rate of fire but also for the fact it could fire 106mm Beehive (flechette) rounds directly at oncoming VC waves. One instance in the book (I believe it was Guns Up by Johnnie M. Clark but may have been another) the author Clark was in a slit trench off a main road that VC had been sending coordinated, continuous attacks through. At one point it was getting pretty dire with gun nests getting overrun by grenades near the wire that an Ontos team pushed out from the perimeter of the base they were defending and leveled the 6 barrels across the snaking road up to the base. Like clockwork every few minutes the Ontos team would let off a Beehive round whose flechettes flew right over Clark at these VC waves coming up the road and through the forest on either side. Clark (if it was in fact in Guns Up) later mentioned that not a single leaf on a tree didn't have a hole through it, even mentioned finding pinned limbs to tree trunks.
Great video and thanks. Historically, the .50 (not .30 modded) was ballistically matched to the recoilless rounds meaning you walked the HMG fire until you had rounds on target, than fired the (slang) reckless rounds to hit. No sights needed. In Viet Nam, the USMC loved them. While WT doesn't require this, it's still fun to play that way.
This tank is so fun. You can come around the corner nose to nose with a heavy and win the contest. And it scouts! It takes a good long while to get used to how much the rounds drop, though, and how the aim points are offset.

Fun to watch you, especially with some one else. I still can't see the sense in the nuke. I have seen several videos now, where a nuke was unleashed, but all has one thing in common. The team of the one who dropped the nuke had won already anyway.
Spook is firing his secondary at the same time as primary cuz bindings. Secondary is a ranging shot from each barrel using regular 308 bullets with the same trajectory as his main guns.
The reason it looks like your shooting from all barrels is he hasnt turned off shoot from secondary weps. So its shooting all 6 50 cals every time he shoots the rocket.
The best thing about the big iron is seeing a plane line up on you, knowing they think youre helpless then shooting them with the 6 50 cal spotting rifles
I will mention that the m50's 50 cals aren't 50 bmg they are a ranging gun so if you fire those guns they match the drop rate of your shell. It really helps at rang to make sure you hit with what little shells you have.
The ranging MGs in gane don't really work unfortunately (Chieftains also have one for HESH). After ~400m the MG rounds will fall short from the Point of impact of the shell
The AMX M4 in the first match only had 2 crew members remaining when you first shot him, mostlikely driver and gunner, so your first and second shots only hit dead crew members thus the no damage.
Me taking my fresh tiger 2 P out for the first time on widescreen from commanders view, just vibing with hud off. Then i get clapped through the ufp by a bush that turned out to be an ontos all bushed up.
The guns on this tank are amazing, although the M50 isn't really the best example of how good they are. I would really suggest taking out the FIAT 6614 for a real experience of the M40's.
When flying the a1h, the zunis are the way to go. Much larger range, less spread, one hit kills everything. You think a full mighty mouse load is heavy? I run 6x 500 lbs, 40 zunis, 20 something mighty mouse and a toilet. Best plane in WT imo.
Been humming and hawing about getting this or the kubelwagen for gerries, don't know if I could be bothered with aw the funking about with weird firing positions of barrels
i think more of a reason why people don't like playing this is the arrangement of the guns needs a lot of time to get used to and most people including me couldn't be bothered to learn how to aim it and what order the guns fire in.

Odd u should play the amx 50 surbias but only take 20 rounds as too keep all the ammo in the auto loaded in the turret. Just got this tank and I love it already.
I noticed at 2:49 you scouted, but "it didn't scout." I've been having this problem lately and hope that it's not just me. I'll look right at an enemy in a scouting vehicle, hit the scout button and get the message that I did it wrong, thus wasting the binocs for the next minute. Kind of frustrating when I know I am doing it properly. Seems to be happening a lot more than it ever has, for me at least. Just me? PS: the US 6.7 tiny tanks are just a hell of a lot of fun. T92, M56, M50. Just a blast, all of them.
OddBawz likes this but hates the M56 Scorpion...even though they are pretty much the same tank/vehicle, but the Scorpion has a 90mm gun, which is better, in game, then this 90% of the time. In my opinion anyway. Though the machine gun and the targeting guns do help a lot in a pinch. If the Scorpion had ONE 50cal, it would be great, but it doesn't.

The 4 machine guns on top are used to rangefind, they have the same velocity and arc as the main gun.

This tank is so fun at short-medium ranges when you learn to aim it properly. You can also use the machineguns to range it up to 700 meters.

My grandpa worked on these in Vietnam in the USMC (the vietnamiese absolutely feared these things bc of the flachet rounds)

Not just you. Either spaghetti code or intentionally, but spotting is WAY harder than it used to be.
If you wanna have better aim I would suggest you a scope from wt live with trajectory for each cannon. It's really a difference with and without it
