Did you know that, while most other species of spiders have a limited range of vision, the jumping spider's large eyes allow it to see much further and percieve more detail? They may even be able to see the moon at night!
I’d love to get a jumping spider but my wife would leave me. 😊 Very interesting video and hope others who want to have a jumping spider as a pet learn these useful tips.
My husband said this about my girl I have had for 3 days “I don’t care about that freakin thing and I don’t wanna see it” 😂😂😂 We both had a fear of spiders he’s not ready to overcome his I’m out of the arachnophobia now lmao God the way he said that when I said aww come look at her NO! 😂
I just got a new pet jumping spider a couple days ago and just adore her! I believe she just went into molting so I will just mist her! Because she already disappeared in her enclosure! And today I found out that there is some moss moved out of her hide! I couldn't be happier!❤
Here's a tip: don't feed your spider to often. only feed them about every 4 to 5 days if you feed them everyday they will use that food faster causing them to grow faster and molting more often also leading to them living a shorter life
Yesterday I got a small one from my garden and gave it two fruit flies (cause I didn't know if just one would be enough). But, in this weekend, me and my family will travel for a week, and I don't know what I do with my little one. ☹️
@@mrthing39 What I have read is that is for the small baby ones. As they mature once a week can bee enough. Observe your pet well and adjust feeding to its needs.
Wow I've watched your videos about cockatiels before I got a cockatiel and now I'm watching this. Maybe the universe just wants me to get a jumping spider as well.
just new got into jumping spider 2 days, get 3 different regal species, orange, red and giant, seller said its new keeper friendly and I love em' even thou they still very small like 5mm size now. Now he suggest very very small boxes like 5cm x 5cm but I purchase bigger one instead...So good to know I did the right things. Hopefully and excited they can grow beautiful & healthy!🙂
One thing I wish I had knew before I had gotten my first jumper: one won't be enough. I'm opposite on the size for their enclosures. While they aren't in anything too small, I built a huge spooder playground for them. If they like coming out, they all get to explore the obstacle course I made for them, haha. I guess in being serious, I wish I'd known that most jumpers aren't going to be wagging their tales with excitement to come out and play. Some need a little encouragement and others definitely like to brood by themselves. Love these guys so much!
I got one a couple days ago but he hasn't left the hollow piece of wood. He also hasn't drunk anything even though I mist the top of the enclosure. I keep trying to peak just to ensure he's okay, but I'm not sure how else to make him more active.
I am not going to buy one, but late summer they sit on my dark painted walls in the evening. And they are the cutest animals ever! The zebra patern also suits them so well!
I have noticed a lot of people having issues with getting humidity correct and end up with mould if there is no clean up crew. I usually find as a beginner, keepers tend to over mist enclosures trying to keep up humidity. I'd suggest 2 times a week max to limit this as it should be plenty, along with the food they eat as well to keep them happy. :D
I kept my tarantula in an aquarium with a screen top and cedar wood chips on the floor, and for water, I had this little plastic thing (made for watering spiders) that had a square depression or cut out in the middle to put a wad of cotton in that you could dribble some water on every day, then the spider just had to kind of straddle the cotton wad and such the water out. My tarantula was young when I got it but was a good size already, and I had her for 17 years! And, no...I didn't name her cuz she was just like a dog with no legs...she wasn't going to come when I called her, anyway!
What happens if my spider went to the bottom of the cage and it hasn’t come up for two days and I can’t see it because it’s in a natural eco-friendly environment
In this case I do! If you check out my new jumping spider video there’s a link to the site we got ours from (not sponsored!) They pack well, send out quickly and the spiders are always in good health!
I have two jumpers, the smallest I've had for about 3 weeks, and the "big" I've had to about a week now, Didn't get around measuring them yet , but based on what google said it was their species I would say that the small one is 2-3mm and the "big" maybe 5-6mm. Where I live (Brazil) there's absolutely nothing for jumping spiders, so I have to make it all wll myself, used two 8x8x8 cups and made an 8x8x16 with middle opening using magnets, still giving the finak touches, will glue the branches with hot glue, maybe post it on reddit later. My question: is this a suitable place to house the bigger one? The smaller is living in a smaller container with some branches I set up.
So honestly, given your situation and the fact you went to the trouble to make the enclosures yourself I’d say they are fine! What you want is enough space for them to explore and web and climb about. If they are doing that and not just sitting in one area then they are fine!
@@Spooderpods Thanx. That was my first instinct. She was moving really slowly, but she ate a waxworm-very slowly. I haven't seen her in a day now. Probably moulting
@@kinglyzard Is she hiding in her web? Temperature can also influence their behaviour. They tend to be more active when it's warmer, so you could try boosting that to see what happens too! If she's just chilling in the web then it is likely pre-moult or moulting.
My advice would be, learn the difference between male and females! for the one simple reason that if yours is a female, she WILL create an egg sac and you WILL have to deal with the babies. least you had suddenly a hundred adorable, spoods flooding your room.
Well... you would need to have both a male and a female for this to happen. A female will at some point produce an egg sac full of UNfertilized eggs. These eggs will produce nothing. You would know if you were going to have to deal with babies because you would have actively mated said male and female.
Do you know if spiders prefer to be alone or would they appreciate a spider companion of the same gender? Say two female for example or is the bond towards a human enough? edit: never mind found my answer! (for anyone else the answer is no they could eat each other)
So I’ve had jumpers before and have been successful in keeping them. My first jumper I got in 2020. I just got a new one on may 7th. She was probably in her 3rd instar when I found her. Shes molted twice already and has gotten so big and gorgeous. Shes a phiddipus jhonsoni. It’s her feeding day today. I gave her a pretty big fly. Same size as her. Her abdomen is HUGE now. I’ve never seen one so big!!! I’m so worried her abdomen will rupture. Will she stop eating soon??? She’s being a pig. Her names Milly and I’m going to cry if something happens to her I feed her every 3 to 4 days
So they will be greedy and generally can over eat. The biggest danger for her abdomen rupturing would be if she falls, otherwise the risk is low. If she’s very big I’d hold off feeding her for a while! When they are adults generally once every week or two is enough!
It’s a bit less of an issue when they are smaller as they usually use the extra to moult off! But they can be very greedy lol. Before her moult one of ours over ate on a meal worm and was massive!
@@Spooderpods she’s been sitting on her little ledge looking out the window all day. I think she’s too full to jump around on her mushrooms today like she usually does. Little piggy. Thank you for your help. I was so worried.
my house is cold like 68 degrees cold and i got my spider last wednesday for my birthday and im super worried she won’t eat (at least i can’t see she’s eating) and i thought it was the food i gave her i started giving her fruit flies and idk if she’s eating them or their escaping but their disappearing i added a light to get the temp to 70-80 degrees and before she made a hammock on the ground and never made one on the roof but ever since that light she has 2 separate hammocks my enclosure rn is small bc she’s like 1 month but after abt 2 molts she’ll go into the bigger cage i’ve held her once and did get spooked but im hoping with vids like these she’ll thrive bc last thing i want is a bigger mistake to kill her
If you do your research and keep adapting I’m sure she will be fine! It’s good you are trying your best for her! I have other videos about feeding that may be helpful too!

Cool name and welcome to the spider club!
It is amazing how much heat it a bit of light can help!
Yeah I just got one too and I think she may just be adjusting but she has an LED light. How long did it take for Leo to become more active?
I catch these guys at my work all the time love keeping them. They just seem so incredibly smart and I love that. Good video thank you.
